These old analog machines are a must for any real music producer that wants these sounds. Sampling them is an after thought for me because the original rhythms in the box are just as important as the sounds themselves.
Cool little drum machine, but not programmable. I got a mint one for free a long time ago and sold it in 2007 for like $90 to a collector. No individual outputs, no MIDI of course in 1979. I could see giving $50 for a nice one but $300 is pure madness. It has a nice sounds though. I use samples from it in the MPC.
thanks for this demo. i bought a kr55 and sync it with my sh-101 .. but i have a problem there: the tempo is synced, but the sequence is not on the piont, it is not exacly layerd. may it's because roland and korg does not reallly fit together, is it possible that is has to do with the voltage value? its 5V from the kr55 ...anyone has an idea 'bout that?
I'm selling mine on Evilbay now...shedding some tears 'cause I really dig this sound...soooo dry and powerfull instant electro; just added some FX (Roland RE-501 chorus echo or vintage Ursa Major Space Station) and it went crazy! *LOLZ*
I didn't know that. I am not sure if it's the same guy but didn't he help the Pet Shop Boys record their first demos of West End Girls in I think it was his studios in New York.
Keep looking on ebay, search for Korg kr-55 or Korg KR55. Look for a sellor who will send it out for international delivery. They do come up for sale sometimes. I paid 150 british pounds about 2 years ago.
You can tune the pitch of the drums. However, LOL you have to do it from inside the machine. I've never tried it myself. Based on this, you may be able to do other adaptations to the sounds from inside the machine but don't quote me on that. I just record the sounds and beats into a DAW software software programme. Once you have done that then the sky is the limit. The hardware machines are great for getting the creative flow going before getting down to serious work on the computer.
Well done you LOL. I always hope I will find some jjucy bit of retro gear at a British carboot. Never found anything yet, how crap is that. Did you get it really cheap?

What a great demo!!
I'm sure some of the experimental artists (e.g. Klaus Schulze/ Richard Wahnfried) used these sometimes...
I just found one of these machines yesterday, with the foot pedal.
It's going to be fun now, to try to use it, to decide if i want to keep it or sell it!
I'm not a musician!

most of the sounds (kick, snare etc) sound the same. No way you can tweak them?
