I'm a kepper myself n I have to say that it doesn't matter how good a keeper is in training cause it's the game decisions that matter the most especially with goalkeeping. When a keeper makes a mistake it shows much more than if a foward were to make a mistake. And it wasn't that Bri didnt have as much skill as Hope it's that she lost her sense of decision making after not playing a full game for nearly 2 months. If hope had played, the U.S. would've had another shutout...
think she was right. Two of the goals scored by Marta were easy finishes, with Hope Solo's experienced as well as understanding she has with the defenders that had taken 51 games to achive clears shows she was in a better position to play Brazil. The coach should have done his homework, considaring the fact that Brazil came into the game with 12 goals in 4 games. The last position you want to change is the Goalkeeper.
I think the team should just get over it, granted they "only" got third place but that was due to Ryan's decision as a coach ("never change a winning team"); Hope made a harsh comment in an emotional state of mind (haven't we all been there at least once in our life) and later apologized for it. The US WNT, which includes Hope, should now focus on renewing team spirit and keep playing as well as improving their game so that we can look forward to the Olympics!
I definitely think the controversy became the story, not Ryan starting the whole thing. Solo was up against it, and she ended up sending him down the river. Can't blame her. Feel bad for Scurry though: Cup winning goalie deserves mass love, but she just wasn't up to it that day. I think she felt she could have made those saves and give team USA a chance to win.

i agree 100 %... there were more factors against us in that game than just a keeper change. box getting that bs red in the first half didnt help. the refferee feeding into brazil's dives and melodramatic fouls didnt help either. this was not the smartest decision on the coach's behalf. however, this is your team, you stand up and support it. hope needed to support her team despite her disappointment. she personally attacked bri. she is not a team player.

I think that what she was saying is that after three years working for this in over 40 games (while Scurry played in only 7 and was with the team for only half that time), she thought she'd earned the right to at least try. People say "oh, it was just one game," but for those players it was 50 games over 3 years building to this one game. That's kind of a difference.

No change of players, but mentally, physically and tactically better players. Result: the defense was almost flawless against US.
The coach was silly because he could have helped the first goalie to improve her stakes for the game. Some focused training and guidance can make wonders in such a WC environment. If she had weak points, work on it! Brazil had a hard time against Australia due to lack of attention. In three days the team got over it with training and fixed the spots. Result: no changes of players, but better players! And it so worked. The defense was almost flawless.
The first goal Hope gave up against North Korea should have put right to the bench. Goalie change was not the reason we lost to Brazil - they dominated the whole match - and Marta is the best I've seen in women's football ever.

I have to agree that you don't change your goalie in the middle of the world cup. But I don't agree with how Solo handled the situation, things like that you want to keep within, you talk to the coach one on one. She is a great goalkeeper and I hope to see her continue on the team.

Well, after hearing about it, I will say I have to side with Hope Solo on this one. You don't change your No. 1 keeper for your No. 2 that hadn't played a complete game in three months. Doesn't make sense.

4-0. hey...we didn't even score...how can you blame the goal keeper when you don't even score? i didn't think the keeper switch was a good idea (really stupid on the coach's part) but solo's comments were classless and immature. and to those people that said she didn't criticize the player, only the coach, u r wrong! post-game she said, "there is no doubt in my mind i could've made those saves." how could you not take that personally? what if that were u she made the comments about?

i agree 100 %... there were more factors against us in that game than just a keeper change. box getting that bs red in the first half didnt help. the refferee feeding into brazil's dives and melodramatic fouls didnt help either. this was not the smartest decision on the coach's behalf. however, this is your team, you stand up and support it. hope needed to support her team despite her disappointment. she personally attacked bri. she is not a team player.

I don't agree with the goalie change because that disrupt the chemistry of the back line, but that was a coaches decision and as a player, you have to respect the decision, you don't have to like it, just be a professional and cheer on your team-mates. Hope's comments were way out of line, even if she was in goal, I don't think the US would have won, who would she blame then, the defense for letting her down like they did with Scurry? Hope, you need to grow up and stop pouting.

I think that what she was saying is that after three years working for this in over 40 games (while Scurry played in only 7 and was with the team for only half that time), she thought she'd earned the right to at least try. People say "oh, it was just one game," but for those players it was 50 games over 3 years building to this one game. That's kind of a difference.

Wether she was right or wrong is not what lost the game, is it me or does anyone else realize that the US scored ZERO points against Brazil. Instead of looking at one person to blame you might want to look at the all the players. The whole team played horribly not just Scurry.

Right or Wrong a player should never, ever challenge a coach or put another player down in public. Period! They BOTH need to go. My take on the US loss to Brazil is that first the US got beat by the coach, then by Brianna, then by the referee and lastly by Brazil. Brazil was very good against the US. Anyone can dance the Zamba when you are playing with more players and you are already ahead = no pressure. Brazil DID NOT DANCE THE SAMBA against Germany in the Final. 11 vs 11 and no own goal!

You never attack a coach or teamate, especialy on an international stage. Very good decision by the coach! She is a typical spoiled bitch because coach benched her. Brazil is a strong team! Brianna played excellent last game. Brianna let up 1 goal and the rest were her teams fault or refs. I applaud the coach by not letting Solo participate in the match against Norway.

she hasn't been kicked off the team, she just isn't going to suit up and sit on the sidelines in the match against Norway. She will be able to come back from this, especially after they fire Ryan.

Latest report is she's been kicked off the team. It doesn't make any sense. She personally helped the US team with their first 4 victories and then gets benched for an entire game creamed 0-4. She had a right to be upset and question the call. It was a dumb move, firing her is obviously a sign that the coach's bad decisions are habitual.
NTM She's got the looks and has a cool rock star name, how could it have been so easy for her management and team to turn on her?

Isn`t the job of the coach to prepare the players, specially the main ones, to adjust with the changes at each game, focusing on their strength and fixing possible weak points? If not, what is he doing there? A mathematician can do the statistics and report without going to China. The coach is there to empathize with and support the players at each step. Very poor decision.
Regardless, the Brazilian show was beautiful, oh it so was!

I am from Brazil and I have to say I appreciate your coach's gift. ;) But teasing apart, he was silly and incompetent cause he could've helped Solo to get over any weak point she had. Brazil had a hard time against Australia due to lack of attention, and in 3 days the team as a whole got over it through focus and training. No change of players, but mentally, physically and tactically better players. Result: the defense was almost flawless against US.

The coach was silly because he could have helped the first goalie to improve her stakes for the game. Some focused training and guidance can make wonders in such a WC environment. If she had weak points, work on it! Brazil had a hard time against Australia due to lack of attention. In three days the team got over it with training and fixed the spots. Result: no changes of players, but better players! And it so worked. The defense was almost flawless.

The first goal Hope gave up against North Korea should have put right to the bench. Goalie change was not the reason we lost to Brazil - they dominated the whole match - and Marta is the best I've seen in women's football ever.

I mean why in the world would you mess with that kind of success before the teams biggest game yet? truth of the matter is that Scurry was one of the best keepers I've seen before, but no one can deny that she's not like she was 2 years ago. Curry was at fault for three of the four goals (third was just an excellent finish). She should have come for the corner on the first and on the second and fourth - you would expect an international keeper to get one or both. But she did her best and the US would have lost which ever keeper played. Brazil were just a better team.
