  • Her voice comes in like a shaft of sunlight_beautiful.

  • She has a gorgeous voice.

  • this is a wonderful song. I am German and I love how Vera and the choir sing:

ouf weedersayn :) it sounds lovely

  • This song hits the soul and Vera Lynn made the best of it. But who wrote this little melody? Ooops....

  • @StevenOfOz

the original german version was written by the german composer eberhard storch (1906-1978) from berlin in 1949. already a big hit in germany, it was made a world hit by vera lynn's interpretation. the song exists in many languages. the english lyrics are from sexton/turner.

  • This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.

  • as another generation passes...this will remain immortal

  • Dame Vera is a national treasure. Who remembers Hitler, fondly? lol

  • A lovely recording.

  • The original recording of ''Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart'' was no. 1 on the charts for nine consecutive weeks beginning the second week in July 1952.

  • @PublicRadioWorldWide

    15th july: My birthday!!!

  • Wonderfully nostalgic song for a bygone age.

  • Thank you for sharing this.....brings back sweet memories of my parents singing this when I was a little girl....

  • How nice- "a cup of tea, two biscuits {cookies}, and a shilling". I would have given your father and his fellow officers more than that [a complete collection of Vera's Decca recordings would have been a decent start]. Still, 'Barry', your father is a part of recording history. I'm only sorry he didn't get Dame Vera's personal greeting before he passed away...

  • Vera for ever !!!

  • I understand now why Vera Lynn was called the Soldiers' Sweetheart in WW2. She even makes the sad "good-bye" sound like it will be "hello

    sweetheart" soon. Love the song!

  • Favourite song of Tuppe They

  • what a fantastic voice. i remember my Mum ( who is same age as Vera Lynn ) singing her songs when i was young

  • Great Song!

  • meet her in'43.lovely as her voice

  • It's a german song originally, written by german composer Eberhard Storch. Was a huge world success during the 1950's...

  • It's funny that she uses a German greeting in an English song. ;D

    Anyway, I really like it!

  • thats not really words of greeting - thats words to say goodbye

  • That's right. ^^

  • The song became popular at the end of World War II and she was loved by the English Troops.

  • Ah, okay!

  • Would that in theses times of turmoil we had a voice to unite and inspire us as did Vera Lynn.

And the background choras; soldiers mknowing they were going off to face death.

    It is moving.

  • I remember hearing this song when I was a youngster, around mid1940s when the war finally ended. A special lady!

  • I played this record hundreds of times and never got tired of it she is the best

  • I think Dame Vera had the most beautiful singing voice I have ever heard. Before my time but absolutely wonderful to hear.

  • Recorded in the summer of 1952; Vera is accompanied by Roland Shaw's orchestra and a chrous of British military personnel...

  • My father, who died in October, was one of the Royal Air Force men who were in the chorus. He recalled in an oral history interview 20 years ago how they were each given a cup of tea, two biscuits and, I think, a shilling each for their efforts. I wrote to Dame Vera when my dad was dying, requesting an autographed photo for him, to cheer him up. It arrived today, too late for him, with a nice covering letter asking me to thank him for his part in the song's success.

  • My Dad, who is now 93, was in the army & he saw Dame Vera in concert with the army.

  • Bayonets bullets and Vera ....saw us through....

  • MY HEART REMEMBERS SO VERY WELL!!

  • Great Song...

  • Ditto

  • Remember your not going to be young forever..

You will be an old fart too someday if you make it?
