Obama is an amazing guy but he looked a complete buffoon when he did his little speech and raised his glass during the national anthem. The Queen handled it wonderfully, looking at him and then ignoring his comic act. Obama was left holding his glass and nobody else moved. What a comedian. At the end of the anthem the Queen finished the episode beautifully by raising her glass to Obama, and then to everyone else. Now that is what you call class.
I'm 25, I'm British, I failed to see where the insult was until she said at the end. Bit snobby if you ask me. The only people who see this as an insult are the same people who are narrow minded, racist and prejudice. Get a grip, it's the 21st Century.

She says 'that's very kind'. Whilst Obama was out of place it wasn't intentional. The Queen actually seemed to sympathise with his apparent lack of knowledge regards the English social graces. Personally, as a British citizen, I don't like the man, but he's the best choice America has, rather him than a crazy redneck. I do however believe it was a little harsh to deem his ignorance insulting.

There is an etiquette observed in the civilized world when ever a toast is made to anyone. For argument's sake; let's imagine that you're at a wedding, and the best man says "ladies and gentlemen, I give you the bride, and groom". At this point, you would expect to toast the happy couple. What you wouldn't expect, would be for the best man to then go straight into a speech. Anyone whith a role to play in a ceremony; must learn their part, failure is ignorance.

Technically, we don't have a NATIONAL anthem as such. God Save the Queen (or King) has always been used to greet the monarch, but has never been formally declared a national anthem - it's really a ROYAL anthem.

@BlackDollarBills During a speech, as soon as the speaker says "The Queen", that is the cue for the music to start. He admitted afterwards, that he thought the music was a soundtrack to his speech. That's how egoistic he is.

@BlackDollarBills There were rehearsals for this though, and he must have been told not to speak over the anthem. If he had just admitted that he made a mistake then I would think he was just ignornant too. But it's just the way he says 'soundtrack' like he's in a Hollywood film or something.
