  • . . .and look at you now!!! (Nothing like having someone call you and say, "Umm, I found one of your braids on the seat of the car" or "Excuse me ma'am, you dropped something."

  • WOW! WHAT AN INSPIRATION!

  • I love this video! I've been a subscriber of your channel for a while now, but I just saw this video for the first time today. I know exactly how you felt. I was almost embarrassed of being natural. Then one day I decided I'm taking out my weave and letting my natural hair show! lol. You're a big help to naturals. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into your videos and being an inspiration.

  • Thank you for sharing. I am at my 6 month of transitioning trying to make it to May and then BC. I thank all natural hair and transitioning youtubers. I would not have a clue of what to do if not for you. I am still very nervous about this tremendous change and trying to imagine what it will look like, but I am also very excited and looking forward to it.

  • Can you make this available for mobile viewing please

  • @Bcanty0319 she cant because she doesnt own the song (its india arie I am not my hair) and youtube is the one preventing it from being available on mobile not her. You should just try watching it on a computer or going to the non mobile youtube site (unless you have an iphone that probably wont work)

  • You should do an update video on your journey that would be lovely!

  • I never knew that you had a natural hair journey video. Can't believe you're not even at 3 yrs yet and your hair is soooooo long!

  • u had your big chop on my birthday!!! I love your hair by the way

  • Happy BC Anniversary!!

  • LOL @ the braid falling out. I realized that my hair rejects braids too. They get soo loose after having them in for such a short time lol so I stopped puttin em in

  • Your curls were adorable! Awwww! Thanks for paying it forward! I just BC'd after almost 2 years of transitioning--without a plan, so I'm just learning as I go!

  • Please make available on mobile

  • Thanks for the inspiring video. I am at the very beginning of the transition period. I hope I can make it. I'm going to start by stretching my relaxers and see how it goes. I will wear the braid out styles and less heat. Baby steps for me. I won't do the big chop though, too traumatic, just gradually let the relaxed ends grow on out and trim as needed but no big chop. Your natural hair is beautiful and your videos are well done.

  • @TAylorSwift Ive had also had thinning hair and early stages of male hair loss almost 5years and have tried different products. Then I came across the net at the site HairLoss101. net (remove the space).. After 3months of use I only have hair fall..

  • I ran out of character space lol...anyway, to continue my thought, my hair has always been uneven and on the fine side, and tends to break badly in the back. Even now in its relaxed state, with using very minimal heat (air dry only, hardly flat-iron) plus washing and deep conditioning weekly, it still sheds badly and breaks in certain spots, and seems so thin! It's very frustrating. :(

  • I really would love to go natural...I've been thinking about it for about two years now, but I'm so afraid! I'm 34 years old, and have been wearing relaxed hair since I was a teenager. I have REALLY NAPPY hair...no, seriously, I do...and I'm afraid if I go natural I won't be able to get a comb through it or it won't look as pretty as a lot of black women's natural hair. But I see all of these beautiful, creative styles and the gorgeous thick hair and wonder if I can do it!

  • You BC'd in 2009 and your hair is sooooo long now! Its beautiful! just sub'd to your blog for inspiration, i'm only 3 months into my journey but i love it already :)

  • im starting to think more and more about it because now im in college and it would be easier to not have to get it relaxed but do you have to cut most of your hair off?

  • I like your honesty when you mentioned that you were a bit apprehensive when you first got it cut. The humor of the braid falling out kept it really down-to-earth :-D Thanks for sharing the beginning of your journey with us.

(btw, you hair has always been beautifully cared for, even when it was relaxed) Glad I'm not the only one who loves taking care of my hair.

Thanks Again, Keep the camera rolling chica.

  • Beautiful girl!!!!!

  • how did your hair get so short once you stopped relaxing it?

  • @coollikebeans she cut the relaxed part off.

  • I <3 U so much.

  • Thank you so much :D

  • what a beautiful video

    your boyfriend loves u

    there thru it all

your hair is beautiful and healthly

then u paid homage to the ladies who gave u inspiration

    u are awesome !

  • You look so different with relaxed hair! You were pretty back then but now you are beautiful with natural hair :)

  • So love this video.....and all of the tutorials...I am just getting started and you have been a tremendous help.... Thanks Naptural85

  • Cool video! XGoldn is my niece :D

  • THAT WAS AN EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!! Humorous and inspirational all at the same time. Thank you for being so honest about journey.

  • you put this video together well. NO MORE LYES!!! that part was hilarious with the barbie & relaxers

  • That braid falling out on the mat was hilarious!!!! girl, your hair was beautiful even short!!! Its very healthy, my nape (kitchen) is actually like yours and the front is more nappy idk why maybe from all that lye to lay down my edges. when I was relaxed, ppl thought I had weave and it wasn't nearly as healthy as urs but it broke off from flat irons, hot curlers, SUPER perms etc. I am so proud of u for being u and your hair is fab!!! Can't wait for mine to grow out more def think I'm on track

  • Beautiful hair journey... I'm close to being 8 months natural. :) I got my first bc twa Januray 21, 2011 and transitioning last year November to January only 3 months. I truly love being natural even thought I admit wearing my hair relaxed since I was 15 yrs old. Lol. I like yor hair videos. Wow its amazing how beautiful your hair is now very long and pretty... Just curious how many years did it take to grow your hair very long and healthy. God bless and take care. ^_^

  • Wowzers.. You have really inspired me with this video :) i just got all of my relaxed hair cut off and its like an inch now.. WHEN i stretch it out! lol.. And i really want my new, fresh hair to grow strong and beautiful.. like yours :D

  • I love your video!!! Awesome!

  • Great video, great hair before and after....i could not stop laughing (been there done that with the braid falling out). Just discovered your "old" videos....so now I can start from the beginning....

  • I love your videos! This one really made me smile! you are way to cute! My favorite journey video yet.

  • INDIA ! i love her, and good for you , making that change, taking that step! :]

  • wauww nice afro xxxxx

  • THAT WAS GREAT!!!!!!! I loved your video. I BG about 3 weeks ago. Just learning what works and what doesn't. Thank you for sharing your story. :)

  • i love how when the pics of your natural hair hair began to show, "I am not my hair begins to play." That song kept my spirits up, the first few months of my BC.

  • Thank you for your video. Inspiring.

  • Such a beautiful video...I just wish hair wasn't such a big deal! Who cares if your hair is straight, curly, or kinky!? It's just HAIR!

I used to relax my hair and cut it all off about 3 years ago to start fresh and natural. It was honestly one of the hardest things I've ever done!

But now I can say I love my healthy hair and now that I've found your videos I have so many new ways to love my curls!

  • 2:01 so funny i almost choked ofn my food laughin haha

  • amazing

  • This has to be one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen. You really are my hero!

  • I think I finally found someone with hair like mine! Thank goodness! Just BC Jan 2011 after transitioning 3 months.

  • you habe inspired me soo much!! even though i have never had a relaxer i always wore it straigt but now u have inspired me to wear it natural with no heat...it does make me feel free :D much love <3

  • great video. :) love ur hair

  • I am happy I found a person with the same type of hair as myself. BC Dec 2010 and I love it. I got curls!!! I mean Coils!!! LOL... I am embracing them, and looking forward to my big curlly fro! Thanks for the vids and tip, I will be using them for sure.

  • How long hav you and your husband been together?

  • How did I miss this video?? Thanks for taking us on the journey.

  • Thank you so much for this video! Your hair is alot like mine and YOU INSPIRE ME!

  • I love my naps but if my relaxed hair looked that good....

  • Thanks for this video...

  • I've watched this video like... A BILLION times and everytime 1:37 hits, i smile :)

  • I LOVE this video. I wish more black females took more pride in wearing natural hair instead of trying to changes those who already do.

  • this is so damn weird but i teared up listening to the music plus thinking about my hair. i'm still wearing braid extensions and not wearing my curly hair. i think i need to stop.

  • I have never seen this video until you uploaded the one yesterday! Thanks for the refresh...there is hope:)

  • @ShanaJaye me too haha

  • I've never seen this video until now. This is so inspirational! You have lovely hair!!!! I love it natural. ;-)

  • Great video!!! You Tube has made me embrace my curls too! Natural since 2006!

  • I love your channel...by far the most inspiring, positive, and delightful journey video I've ever seen. Continued blessings.

  • 1:21 whats the name of that scary theme?? I've been looking for it for the longest!

  • absolutely gorgeous sweetie love it cute cute

    peace

    aneesah

  • I respect you so much!! I felt the same way about my hair but eventually it started thinning and breaking off. so I started to try to curls and i liked it better. But i got tired of relaxers. I haven't did the big chop yet but i cater to my natural hair. its been almost 6 months now and I can care less about my straight hair! This video gave me a little more courage to keep going and to care less at what other people think!

    THANK YOU!

  • I just became a subscriber a couple of months ago but just now saw this video. It was beautiful. And that incident with your braid slipping off....omg. It has happened to me when I was at home but I always knew it could happen in a public place. That was also really touching when you showed pics of Youtube naturals who inspired you :) This was such a nice video. I had to add it to my favorites :)

  • Great Video

  • ive seen this like a hundred times!!! never gets old!

  • You look gorgeous, and your hair is beautiful :) I am 18 years old and since I was 12 I've had a relaxer-which eventually led to the destruction of my hair. I finally decided in march of this year that I wanted to go natural,as I was fed up of my damaged and breaking hair. So far I have been transitioning for 7months. I am excited but very nervous to BC. Its sounds sad,but its true. Any words of encouragement would be very much appreciated my natural sistas!! I want to BC in 2months,but nervous

  • Is that what was happening? Hair is to curly and rejecting the braids. Your hair is similar to mine, almost looks to be exact. I was wondering why I was able to pull a braid or two out after they had only been in for about a week or two. That is 60 bucks and 4 hours of sitting. Any tips? I am natural now but the difference is that I am doing this in South Korea. Do any of the people you use ship overseas?

  • is luvin the organic root stimulator olive oil replenishing conditioner as a leave in. I also noticed you cover hair @ nite after moisturizing with satin black mushroom cap which I also have an identical one, color & all. I was especially touched by your tribute to the o.g. natural women of utube who inspired u, now u r inspiring countless others like me & in time when I have enuff of a progression- I hope to do the same! :) The legacy of inspiration lives on, much luv and Thank you Naptural85.

  • it may have been the cause of a horrible breakout (acne) that i all of a sudden have after testing all these different products- I've never had acne b4- this is crazy- anyway so i went and grabbed both products and tried a section with the organic & loved it, all of a sudden my hair feelsmoist, the kind of moist where the hair strands actually retain it instead of it feeling hard n brittle in a couple of hours.. I will wait till my hair has length & try the vatika cocnut 2comb out. 4 now my twa

  • I was feeling really frustrated @ how dry its been feeling. Then tonight I was looking at natural hair journies via utube when one girl said she used organic root stimulator olive oil leave in conditioner, i realized i have this product in my products graveyard in a special cabinet in my kitchen, then u said u use coconut oil on your ends& miss jessies when i realized i also have vatika cocnut oil in that graveyard, at the recommendation of another youtube user but i stopped using bcuz i thought

  • Wow, I just have to say this made me laugh soooooooooooooooo hard especially when u talked about braids falling out in jiu jitsu calss, at the mall.... Only becuz ive been thru just about everything a black woman can go thru with her hair & can relate....It also made me feel so good & filled up with rejoicing more than i have felt in al ong time bcuz i feel like there is hope. I shaved it completely off 1 mo./4 days ago. After trying soooo many products that just left my hair feeling hard & dry

  • Ok, how come I just "teared up" watching your video! Beautiful!! I guess it was a combination of watching yours and other natural hair videos, India.Arie, and just the fact of seeing my sisters embracing and loving our unique selves!!! I am soooo happy I made the decision to go natural and even more grateful for such a strong and solid support group here on You Tube.. Viva La Natural Hair!!!! (lol) Thanks!!

  • Simply Beautiful! :-)

  • I would love to watch your hair journey,I have heard such great things about it. However it will not play for me:( Do you know what's wrong with it?

  • i love your hair, it loves really soft just wondering how you styles ur hair like tht?

  • i love the way you put your vid together...had me smiling all the way have been "natural" since 2002 but with braids and have only been without them from Feb 10 and my hair has grown more without the braids... :)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I am so inspired. You have just given me the push that i needed to really reach out and be me. I just cut it all off and truly, I am mortified. But with the encouragement from you and India, I NOW REALLY REALIZE THAT "I AM NOT- REPEAT--- AM NOT my hair... :( How profound.... Thank you. And please, keep posting! Huggs, ~Lashes....

  • this is the most perfect video !

  • Hey there Naptural85! I just wanted to say thanks to you today. Because I was really having one of those days today where I wish I didn't cut all my hair off. Yes It was pass my shoulder like yours. Like you as well, when you stated in the video that you wasn't ready for everyone to see your hair just yet, well that definitely is me now....lol.

  • @karmelpocohontas Lol, Hey girl! Sorry it took so long to respond, it's hard to keep up now with all the videos, but I know that day is long gone now, but I am happy to have helped you along! I hope you are still natural, because I know it's hard when you are so used to your long hair..you take pride in it and when it's gone, it's tough to get used to, but hang in there, before you know it, it will be past your shoulders again, healthy, full, and beautiful! <3

  • @mariah1victoria no prob! ;o)

  • i have a question i want to do that but i have to cut my hair?? like realy short ??

  • hey mariah1victoria! You don't have to cut your hair short, A lot of people transition with their relaxed hair and only cut it when it gets to a certain length. You can also put braids/extensions in your hair, so no worries! There are many ways to transition! <3

  • Thanks so much for a great video. I did the BC in October 2006...I didnt discover the natural hair journey divas on you tube until mid 2008. I was really frustrated going from always having long relaxed hair, to short kinky hair...but, that was THEN! I am so in love with my natural hair. I got a lot of negative comments when I cut all of my hair but..since then 5 of my cousins have gone natural!! Thanks again for sharing your journey, I am working on posting a video of mine! God Bless!!

  • You go girl! That's so amazing you could inspire your family to free themselves as well! I will def be looking out for your journey video! Happy New Year!<3

  • this video made me wish I would have documented my journey better... :( The process for me wasnt as bad as people tried to convince me it would be and I like you am so greatful to the individuals who choose to post various helpful material!!!!!! Not being dependent on a chemical of any kind has made me a different person. Your hair is beautiful!!!! Stay natural and never go back!!!!

  • Thank you MsJamaica03! I am soo happy I made this transition, I have become so much more comfortable and assured of myself, I could never go back! Thank you so much for the sweet comment and I hope you have a wonderful New Year!<3

  • Your video left me so emotional. I remember my journey and how people reacted when I went natural and now I love my hair so much. I feel liberated : )
