And "online belt promotion" is just a rhetorical argument. What it really is is video evaluation, many martial arts use this for ranking, USA Judo uses video, I believe TKD uses video at the higher levels. It is much more difficult having to take a video eval of your technique than by instructor eval
There is no timeline, if you know EVERYTHING in their curriculum, which in actuality is 70+ techniques and can perform them all against a live opponent and in positional drills with a 5 minute time limit, your eligible for belt promotion. That type of knowledge is extremely tough to do in a month, not sure where that timeline is coming from, it took me about 10 months, not including 2 years previous BJJ experience
@Khazal12 It will take 108 days to complete the Gracie Combatives program. It is recommend you complete the entire 108-day program twice before you begin your preparation for the Blue Belt Qualification Test. That equates to six repetitions of each lesson followed by an additional 30-60 days of focused practice on the Blue Belt Qualification Drills. The total time required under this plan is about 8-12 months, which parallels the time required to earn a blue belt at the Gracie Academy.
I love these guys. They explain everything so well but their system gives a blue belt in like 20 -30 lessons. I just don't know how legtimate a Gracie Jiu Jitstu black belt is anymore :/ Most schools it would take a few years or at least almost a year to get a blue belt.
@khazal12 What? I've been in Valente Bros GJJ for 2 years with a yellow/white and almost perfect attendance(That's about 120 lessons bro). And those "False" black belts are at the most 3 a school. All GJJ blackbelts are true, what they choose to do from there is personal preference.
@Govegeda check out the 'Gracie Combatives' course, where you can start garages. You just need to learn something like 40 positions and holds and send the a video for them to grade and they'll send you a GJJ blue belt. I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything but that is literally what they are doing.
Fucking great! Thanks for this informative video. Next time how about one showing us what to do when a guy is lying on the ground and you have a baseball bat, that would be really useful.
Just discovered GracieAcademy: Mastery of technique pure and on point! No junky music intrudes the integrity of this demonstration. Will go to web site to see what training media materials are here to inspire. The best one has seen in this realm; like the best of the H to H training that this old man had at Bragg some 40 years ago.
Also, if he expects the rear choke and grabs your hands as you go for it, he's halfway to escaping the position. It's harder for the bad guy to prevent over-under grip.
yea tuck ur chin and turn into the elbow hook the guys leg with urs and pull it towards u, grab it with ur hand and pull it up hell release the choke or be lifted into the air then u can sweep the other leg, or u can try a shoulder throw or a thousand other counters that are used in just about every self defense system to get out of a rear choke
this video is great, mr. gracie. i tried it on the neighborhood bully, a bulldog bitch who goes by poocheezy, and i must say your techinque is highly effective. all the other k-9's in the area have nothing but respect for me. thanks, gracie!!!
Amazing! this move works in any setuation vs any kinde of oponets and from 3 difrant mount positions almost in same veriation.NOTHING IS BETER AND SIMPLE AS GRACIE JUJITSU !!!!!!!
Hes right about Rickson. Whats great about him is that he would set this up so well. Watch Ricksons fights when hes mounted. Hes so cool calm and collected. You see tons of MMA guys go nuts and they are not thinking about set ups or finishes at all. Thats why you see lots of them lose position.
very very effective i used it in a fight to protect my wife from a potential mugger 2 weeks ago,i had the guy in the face down position for 10 minutes until the cops came and broke it up. Needless to say the guy was effectively out, punches him over 20 times.i got this from watching rickson in his japan fights
I love how he said "It's not possible to choke someone with their own arm FROM THIS POSITION"

i was taught that this holding of the arm in that position is called the gift wrap
but once your sitting up rather than releasing the arm you can sit toward his legs while pulling that arm and take the back so u maintain the control
just a variation good video
Dillingerescplan 2 years ago
ok i did this then put on a triangle from the back by pushing the head forward into my leg and there arm....
they tapped
anyone else tried it before?
lagook 3 years ago
Good basic stuff, altho I dont let the arm go like that during the transition to the harness grip, I try to keep it tighter.

just basic moves... :(
netoiq01 3 years ago
Basic's win fights.
You would never hear a boxer say "oh he just uses basic punches" and it is just as silly to say it about BJJ.
Its about basics, basics, basics, only diverging from basics if there is 100% sure something more complex there to finish with.
jshoup 3 years ago 7
I know it man...
I said that are all basic moves because i am a brown belt jiu-jitsu fighter from Gracie Barra Team, in Campinas-Sao Paulo-Brazil...
I was expecting to see more advanced moves....
:D
netoiq01 3 years ago
They're starting to do more advanced moves right now I think
Vash1202 3 years ago
At 2:39, why "one arm over, and one arm under" ? Why not just go for the RNC position ?
Also, is there an escape once you are gift wrapped ?
cburcinc 3 years ago
He doesn't go straight for the RNC because the idea is to put priority into gaining control of your opponent.
Robopencil 3 years ago 8
Another is that you'll have another option in pulling an armbar in doing this...
