O'Neill though definitively gave Kerry a run for his money, although he was probably too personally vindictive, and Kerry was actually more convincing on the POW issue. O'Neill should have added more stress on the Viet Cong and NVA atrocities, and asked Kerry what exactly he thought of the Viet Cong.
I have to admit, Kerry comes off as kind of charming here, and certainly very intelligent, consistent, respectful, sincere and even cool. It's really hard to believe that this is the same person who ran for President in 2004.
Kerry wanted to debate the issues just after Cavett announced that he was out of time. No other debates took place so I guess that was just Kerry being Kerry.
@msam924 Have no idea what you're talking about. But I do know you make up things about Viet Nam and don't always know what you're talking about. Was age group are you in? Do you remember the time of these debates or born later?
@bush1tman Did you even watch the other 5 pieces of this debate? Kerry kept trying to debate the issues of the war, but O'Neill kept diverting it by attacking Kerry rather than addressing the issues. Patriots like Jane Fonda and John Kerry were criticized by the ultra-conservatives who apparently seem to believe in the Bill of Rights so long as it only applies to them and not to anyone with whom they disagree. My dad fought in Vietnam. The war was started on a lie and perpetuated for money.
@TheTubePortal You said pretty much the same thing on the other video. Did you father see any combat? Because if he did Jane Fonda was sitting on an anti-aircraft gun with officers of the other side doing a commercial for their side who was shooting at your father. I think you should see a psychiatrist to unlearn that self hatred there kid.
@bush1tman Yes, my father saw active combat. He left Quang Tri only one month before the massacre. But anyone who protests the evils and deceptions of their country is a patriot. Fighting a war does not make you a patriot. Most of the men there were drafted and had absolutely no clue what the war was about and wanted to go home. Everyone was sick to death of it, and Fonda, Kerry and others were pointing out the evils. To condemn them but praise Nixon as a patriot is hypocritical.
@bush1tman Can you honestly say that the "America - love it or leave it" philosophy is logical and sound? It's not, it's lunacy. Patriotism is NOT standing by your country when it is committing war crimes, lying to American citizens, and slaughtering millions of innocent Vietnamese. We should never have gone there, had no business being there, and it divided our country needlessly. As for me I'm not going to use the same insults you have thrown at me, but will only refer to historical truths.

@bush1tman Huh? I don't know why I replied to you a couple of segments ago. Ignorance is not bliss; it is lazy and obstructive.
