Funny thing about baby guineapigs, is that all they need, is their mother's milk; they're completely self-reliant otherwise. Hence why baby guineapigs are sold in animal stores, instead of juveniles like with a few other rodents.

You shouldn't take baby guinea pigs out of the cage until 4 weeks because if you take them out too soon you'll get your scent on them and the mother might kill them. Just a wee tip.

sweeeet. We had guinea pig babies....and kept them ALL (except one we let a close friend have). Accident, and sadly the mother died as she was too old to become pregnant. We hand fed the pigs (they did really well on kitten milk, and YES we had a vet helping us to make sure we did the rearing correctly)  The pigs were so TAME I could take them to school with me and they were wonderful with the children (the children were very careful with the pigs also!). But always try to rescue!

You should never breed your guinea pig if you don't know what the risks are such as pelvic bone fusion and pregnancy toxaemia. However guinea pigs only live a few years and the new generations need to replace the old. There's always been a high demand for guinea pigs in the UK and quite often there are not enough animals to go round. I have been successful in finding homes for all the baby guinea pigs that I have had recently.

I did not breed my pig. We bought her at a large chain Pet store ( dumb - always rescue!!!) and she was pregnant already! I had her checked by the vet. Since she was under 6 months old, her delivery went well. She had ALL boys, and I found homes for all of them. Do not breed - RESCUE! : )

Guinea pigs need medical care too, and a Large custom made cage - research before you bring home an exotic pet like this. I wish I had! Also a sow should not become pregnant over the age of 6 -9 month

@MrAlligator781 Congrats on the babies, and you don't need to do anything special to take of them. Just make sure you keep them in a comfortable temperature and give them some extra hay and food. The babies will mostly drink but you'll notice they do like to nibble at a little of the food and hay. Pretty much just keep a close eye on the mother and babies to make sure their healthy and getting enough milk from the mother. How many babies did you guinea pig have? :D

One day 'IT' [they said it was a male] got huge! Then a few months later she had a baby... It was almost as big as her! She was maybe 3-4 months old when she got preg... :( The birth about killed her... She was never nice again.. she just bit and bit and bit.. Her baby was a few weeks late..

@thoromicina2 The only option if you want to keep them together is to spay the female or neuter the male. Otherwise, you will need to separate them for sure. It's too risky and taxing on the sow's body to have multiple pregnancies back-to-back.
