I feel like it may be easier if someone knew what is currently done to my car, and where to go from there. If you could help, that would be cool. Thanks!
Jafro, I couldn't find a way to PM you. I'm having a difficult time navigating through this new setup Youtube has. I was wondering if there's any way to contact you online? I just have some basic noob dsm questions. I've read a lot on dsmtuners, including the basic upgrade paths, etc. But I still would like to talk to someone who is knowledgeable on these cars. I'm having some problems with my car. Nothing I suspect is major, though. Also I'd like to know where to go as far as modifying.
@aleks138 Valve Stem Seals, engine gasket kits, front case (oil pump), stub shaft, oil filter housings, water pump, timing components, fasteners... want me to keep going? :P lol
There's many parts that are junk-out-of-the-box when it comes to aftermarket. Some (like the front case) are critical to your engine's survival. I'm able to order most OE parts for the same price as aftermarket replacements. When it comes to needing quality service parts, I rarely substitute.
@aleks138 People will appreciate finding my car in a junkyard. But I never find 2g turbo AWD cars in the junkyard. Ever. I'd have to burn $20 worth of gas to save $20 on jackshaft carrier bearing bolts if there ever was one out there. So there's good reason to buy dealer parts on occasion.
I had problems with the Fel-Pro kit. The intake gasket didn't have sealant around the head-side, the valve stem seals were all the black ones, and the exhaust gasket was a lead composite gasket, not SS.
Thank you for providing all this info for DSM ers like us! My 1ga Talon wouldnt b around this long if it werent for guys like u and vfaqs.com could u cover topics relating to 4 bolt swaps, 1ga brake upgrades and disengadgement issues? Ppl tend to forget about us 1ga guys and our problems since they got phased out in later gens, but old dogs like my Talon paved the way for you youngens!
@tscompusa downloading it now... Since CAPS doesn't work on WIN 7 and later, and I have virtual machines for that on my i7 MBP... I'll give it a shot and let you know how that works out. THANKS FOR THE INFO!
@Jafromobile no problem. you'll like the ASA a lot better. they have these things online also .. like live catalogs. go to google, put in part # go to images and you will see them all over the place. i still prefer to use the program on the pc though.
@tscompusa It's this kind of discussion that makes my videos even remotely helpful. I keep reminding everyone in PM's that I'm not a certified mechanic, and I only know anything from experience and what info was passed on to me FROM THE COMMUNITY...
The DSM community has taught me more than I ever wanted to know about cars. I owe everything to guys like you who speak up and share what you know. There's more in the DSM crowd than anywhere else, so far as I have found. Thanks!
@Jafromobile yes absolutely. the people in the community make it what it is today.. these engines aren't one of the most powerful platform 4 cylinders by themselves :D
Great Video. I've been a CAPS user for a 3000GT I've had for nearly 10 years. What dealer (best discount) do you order from? Rockville Mitsubishi used to do bundle deals for 60K services and misc trim parts. They are gone now so I've gone with SW Mitsubishi in Texas.
YES..get your parts while you can. Some guy bought $25,000 worth of 3000GT floor mats (all inventory) and now sells them for $300 a set on ebay. =( MMCNA discontinued this part. New oil pans for early GTs are also gone.
@texan176 My first build was done with 92% Rockville Mitsubishi parts. I even drove up there once to meet everybody. Spent hours with them on the phone. What a great crew that was!
There used to be 4 before Mitsu tightened up the reins on everyone selling more than just Mitsubishis. Now I'm stuck with the only remaining dealership in my city. I can't divulge my current part source. They still come from that dealer... but I don't deal with them directly.
I usually use forums to find out exactly what I need and the best part for the buck. On occasion I use all data in my high schools auto shop if we have something weird roll in for servicing
@Jafromobile LOL, it was a hard drive I found fro free years ago (in 2004 and now its collecting dust) I used it up till 2009 almost everyday. It was top of the line maxtor ide drive back then and it ran 7200rpm with 133mb sec read and write. Thats why my channel is named after it.

What part would you want to buy from the dealer that you can't get cheaper elsewhere?

@Jafromobile
Felpro sells a mean gasket kit for $90. Comes with every top end gasket you'll need.
As for oil pump- OEM Hyundai on ebay
stub shaft- make your own :p
OFH- 4g engines are plenty. Mighty max have the forward facing 6 bolt OFH.
water pump- GMB on ebay (it's a repackaged OEM one)
Timing belt- Gates.
Tensioners and pulleys- GMB (once again it's OEM without the stealership markup)
Headstuds- ARP
rest of bolts and nuts can be had at the junkyard. Best part is that they're OEM too :p
