We grew herbs and flowers at our preschool and the kids loved seeing them grow every day and week. It was a great learning experience and we enjoyed harvesting the fruits of our labor!

thats what i did in school and we wet the paper towel everyday and when it was big enough we put it in a vase

Terrific idea! I would be careful not to tell the kids that you start measuring the stem from the number one, but rather from the 0, or the start of the ruler, if zero is not printed on it. I mention this because of the National math test that second graders take where measurement is used. In California the test is called the STAR.
