  • his solo makes all the crowd scream

  • Music Man is the amp he's playing. Blackie is his strat. He played Music Man amps during the mid/late 70's.

  • The way clapton comes back in at 1.15 is pure class

  • I love the parts Robbie plays best. Not because he's a greater guitar player, because he puts his all into it.

I also hate the fact that they cut his first ass-saving solo from the CD.

And listen to the moment when his 2nd solo starts, the band starts such a nice climax, undescribable. That's The Band for ya there!

  • By the way, the douchebag who said Eric was playing a Music man... or even if he tries to get out of it by saying he thought it was Rob...you moron! Clapton's playing Blackie, a legendary Fender Stratocaster that he put together from two guitars, a 1956 and a 1957 era Stratocaster. He named it "Blackie" because of the finish. Blackie can first be heard in September of 1973, in Eric's Rainbow Concert at London's Rainbow Theater. Rob's Strat is a 1958 Fender Strat. You want the serial number?

  • Hey douchebag, there's a Music Man amplifier in the background.

  • lol at you.

  • Rob's a one trick pony, he doesn't have the phrasing nor does he have the guitar vocabulary that Eric does. He wishe though, oh yes he does.

  • Who cares its not about whos best man, its blues their is no right or wrong fagboy, robbie robertson is a greta guitar player, and obviously clapton is too but clapton and robertson have different styles that both shine in this tune, its about the jamming, not whos better in the mind of a guy on youtube

  • dumb ignorant piece of shit

  • talented

  • EC loses strap at 0:55 but Robertson's a pro so he takes over to keep it going. Lose a strap, break a string, whatever, gotta keep it going. That's showbiz... BFD.

I hadn't seen this since it was in theatres!!! Great post.

  • Contrary to your belief, son, as soon as Eric looses his strap, he yells "GO ON", pay attention. That's Rob's cue to get on the horse. Now watch Rob's boddy language and face when he tries to show off for the crowd but gets a hold o himself when in the presence of Clapton. He seems to be enjoying himself showing off in front of a non-suspecting crowd and then catches himself in the presence of greatness...so he bats his eyes and lowers his glare. No eye contact after that. Pay attention!

  • thats THE DUMBEST SHIT i have EVER fucking heard..

  • Touched a nerve there huh? Simmer down, Francis! I take it you're a Robbie fan, huh, Agnes? LMAO!

  • his strap didnt break he just forgot when to start singing.

  • His strap came off. They say this in the commentary on The Last Waltz. And how amazing Robbie is to just pick up where he left off. And you can see the strap undo.

  • It slips off the strap button on his guitar at 0:55, because his strap was twisted.

  • I think Robertson cut Clapton's ass.

  • someone smart please help me

    ANY GUYS UP? X8

  • ERIC CLAPTON IS GOD

  • hello

  • this is so amazingly rock SOLID from countdown on...

  • i love it when eric's strap breaks so robbie takes up soloing duties

  • esp since thier gutairs sound diff XD

  • Robbie, one of the best!!!!

  • oh really nice!!

  • What amp is clapton using here?

  • it looks like a fender twin reverb but I'm not sure :-)

  • amazing amp for sure.

  • I can't see that well, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Music Man. He seemed to use them quite a bit in the 70s

  • Awesomeness

  • The phrase Clapton discovers from 4:10 to 4:30 is one of the divine moments of blues.

  • true, and what about his trademark at 2:29...

  • Those were the good old days. This is a classic.

  • That's 'Blackie" Clapton's playing before the cigarette burns and all the scrape's and dings. What a history that guitar has.

  • Love this!

  • Live rockin' and guitaring at it's best! And when Robbie picks it up from Eric at ~2:37 minutes into this vid -- well, you can just hear and feel the magical blend alignment -- and the camera man, ah, capturing Robbie, Eric and Levon...an alchemical musical zone, indeed! Perfection!

  • recorded on Thanksgiving 1976; released in 1978

  • Correction: The Last Waltz in 1978 (not 76)

  • love the Eric Clapton's guitar strap letting out and Robbie picking right up after him moment

  • Robbie's got his buddys back
