It's just wonderful to be able to listen to Transport of Delight. Specially now there aren't any more 97 horsepower omnibuses any more. No conductors no calling "pass further down the car". You can't even hang off the platform of a Routemaster any more. In fact there isn't even anything called London Transport now. Or any buses with stairs.
I must wonder how fast a fully-loaded bus could go on 97 HP? A London commuters' group, the Underground Resistance Movement, adopted this as their theme song.
Great song! On my vinyl version it begins- 'Some talk of a Lagonda, some like a nice MG' When you have heard these things as a kid they get ingrained somehow. so it freaks me out slightly to hear them sing it differently :-)
I love these, thank you very much, I used to listen to these when I lived in Renfrew, nr Glasgow, and Family Favourites was a big Sunday event! That would be in the forties and fifties? Now I am in California, but still enjoy a laugh!
Tinker Dill sang this beautifully ;D

Thanks for posting this, I must have last heard it when 'Uncle Mac' played it on children's favourites!
Times change however, try the 279 in the morning rush hour. It's a zoo on wheels!
