  • Tinker Dill sang this beautifully ;D

  • ",,,Monarch of the Road, Observer of the Highway Code..." things don't change much!

  • I drive my merry load.... Big six wheeler scarlet paint london omnibus.... them jackel taxi drivers.... monarch on the road.

  • this takes me back to the 1960s great track.

  • It's just wonderful to be able to listen to Transport of Delight. Specially now there aren't any more 97 horsepower omnibuses any more. No conductors no calling "pass further down the car". You can't even hang off the platform of a Routemaster any more. In fact there isn't even anything called London Transport now. Or any buses with stairs.

  • Haven't heard this for quite a few years. Great stuff.

  • I must wonder how fast a fully-loaded bus could go on 97 HP? A London commuters' group, the Underground Resistance Movement, adopted this as their theme song.

  • I have only found 1 place that someone can get on a bus for under £1 and that is in Newport 90p for a child single £1.40 for adult single

  • A 'bus. Magnificent thing.

  • Brilliant!

  • "If tickets cost a pound a piece" - no-one would make a fuss these days.

  • @ArtyEffem your right there

  • @ArtyEffem It's only £1.20 on Oyster...

  • A fantastic flashback to my youth, the excellent Flanders and Swann.

  • Great song! On my vinyl version it begins- 'Some talk of a Lagonda, some like a nice MG' When you have heard these things as a kid they get ingrained somehow. so it freaks me out slightly to hear them sing it differently :-)

  • Thanks for posting this, I must have last heard it when 'Uncle Mac' played it on children's favourites!

Times change however, try the 279 in the morning rush hour. It's a zoo on wheels!

  • Class.

  • love this - pure genius

  • I love these, thank you very much, I used to listen to these when I lived in Renfrew, nr Glasgow, and Family Favourites was a big Sunday event! That would be in the forties and fifties? Now I am in California, but still enjoy a laugh!

  • This is very much the national anthem of the transport industry!

  • Brilliant Graham :)

I've never heard this! Very clever. Thanks.

  • Glad you like it. I have uploaded a couple of their other tracks and will probably upload more.

  • Bloody hell...just found this. Thanks mate

  • My pleasure. Thought of you when I dug it out.

  • You mean I remind you of Donald Swann ? lol
