  • are those Link 110's from 0:15-0:18?

  • that video effect from 0:00-0:17 is pretty cool. I'll never understand how you superimpose a live studio shot onto film. They did a similar effect in a monty python episode where two people are looking for an animated killer through Eric Njorl's body (Episode 27, Season 3: Whicker's World).

  • lol "mrs bentos" mr bentos's wife

  • About that line about having a "shat in the pants" I believe the sudden blast of heat would take care of that little problem rather instanteously... :)

  • The lady who asks the second question is Mary Tamm who, aside from being uttely gorgeous, was Romana in Doctor Who!

  • And I'm pretty sure, he would of shat in his pants...

  • This is brilliant. Shame I'm too young to have watched this show but thank god for youtube.

  • Harry enfield would have been about 15 in 1980-81 when this was made.

  • Is that Harry Enfield playing an audience member?

  • The trade unionist was in the Yes, Minister (ep: Jobs for the boys)

  • Robin Day = LOL

  • Love Mel Smith in this!

  • 3 people never passed the pencil

  • The actor who played Clyde Jenkins also played a trade unionist in Yes, Minister.

  • @Myndir Gotta spell Clive right! That name would be American if not!

  • @Myndir Hi. Yes, it's Richard Davies. His best role, in my view, was as Mr Price in 'Please Sir!', a brilliant show! :)

  • "time for a quick one; Francis" Absolutely love the look on Fancis' face just before the transmission goes off XD

    And ofc:

"The average trade unionist is down a coal mine!"

"yeah i dont know about you Clyde but that's precisely where i'd like to be right now!" hahahahahaha!

  • Very good - even after all these years. Isn't it amazing to think that the portayal of most of these real-life characters was actually quite accurate? We're no better now, of course.

  • Funny that the lib dem is the only character that is made up, while all the others parody real people. Were all the real lib dems of the day too colourless to be satirised?

  • @AndersPuschel Well, none of them was fat enough to be Cyril Smith, Scottish enough to be David Steel or dodgy enough to be Jeremy Thorpe. There weren't any other Liberals that were really known back in the early 1980s.

Even David Owen only became really well known in the mid-1980s because of Spitting Image.

  • pishhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • President, umm... President, umm.... President, umm...

  • *spots young Mary Tamm asking a question* *faints*

  • "Another 3 million people will die-unemployed" Terrific sketch! NTNOCN was a very good programme. Too bad, it didn't get the crossover fandom here in the US that Monty Python got. As for who I would shag with 30 seconds to go, maybe Pamela Stevenson. She still looks good now.

  • Haha at the ending.

  • One of my favourite NTNON sketches, Griff is brilliant

  • I cant stop playing video lol

  • EPIC

  • And, to my left, and indeed, to everybody's left...lol

  • "Yes, well I'm afraid it is, actually" LOL

  • But you know, Great Britain is not an island.

    Hilarious!

  • 'Great?' Britain is not an island? In 2010, what more can you say

  • Mrs Bentos is indeed played by the lovely Mary Tamm.

  • omg the lord carrington character looks just like alistair stewart

  • rowan atkinsons characters voice reminds me of one of my teachers, mr tompson lol.

  • tv heaven

  • Fab !

  • Yeah, fuck off mate.

  • Oh this cheered me up

  • Is that Mary Tamm from Doctor Who as Mrs. Bentos of Cheltenham?

    xx

  • Pretty sure yes.

  • Damn funny!

  • They should bring the pencil back.

  • Why do people keep typing exactly what is being said in the video? We're clearly all watching it. I just don't understand.

  • given the issue you mention I can't help but think what Nye Bevan would have done.......

  • I'm pretty sure he would have shat his pants.

  • to show what bit they think is funny, doesnt exactly matter, i wouldnt loose slep over it

  • Correct!

His name is Richard Davies. He appeared in the Fawlty Towers ep "The Kipper and the Corpse". He was also in "Please Sir" in the 1960s.

He was in "Jobs For the Boys" ep of Yes Minister.

  • I can't stop thinking about Rowan Atkinson's terrifyingly domed, extra-terrestrial forehead.

  • "by nuclear...by nuclear...by nuclear...by nuclear...."

    "holocoust?"

    "yes, holocoust..."

  • Which guy do you mean in Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister? I don't remember any blackmail story in that, and I've watched it all several times. I do think i recognise the actor playing Clive Jenkins, but I don't know his name and don't recall him from YM/YPM.

  • That's probably it.

  • "I think we are missing the main point, and thats the terrible record of this conservative government"

    Lol

  • Is "Clive Jenkins" the same bloke that plays someone on Yes Minister/Prime Minister?

  • Yes :)

  • "great britain is not an island.."

    "am afraid it is"XD

  • Just before the end, it looks like Peter Cook is wearing spectacles and sitting to camera left of the questioner!

  • Brilliant then ... and still brilliant now !

( just fill in a few 'new names' ... lol)

  • "If the panel only had 30 seconds to live, who would the panel like to have sexual intercourse with?"

"ah, well, time for a quick one,"

    GOLD!

  • Bravo

  • "Its times like this i wonder what Nye Bevan would've done... and im pretty sure he would 'ave shat in 'is pants"

Brilliant comedy line and timing :D

  • rowan atkinson

    very good

  • What's the significance of the pencil-passing in the beginning?

  • I'm not sure but I think it might be like a classroom. You know how teachers sometimes make sure that students can only speak one at a time. Whoever has the pencil is allowed to talk. Maybe I'm wrong.

  • MY guess is that it wants to make fun of the "smart look" when people are occupied with a pen or something else.

  • It's just making fun of the fact that in the real Question Time as they show each guest they are often seen fiddling with a pencil. But on this show there is just one between all of them.

  • doubledeckers is right..

it's a symbol of intelligence, but as it's the BBC and low budget, they have to share just one..

  • Also it is something that people do due to nerves and subconsciously. But here they pass the pencil around so that each can deliberately play with it in turn.

  • "...and I'm pretty sure - he would have shot in his pants..." hahaha LOL

  • hillaious sketch

  • "by a nuclear... by a nuclear... by a nuclear..."

    "holocaust?"

    "holocaust."

and "and great britain is not an island" "well im afraid actually it is"

  • thats a fuckin great sketch :)
