  • This closing is AWESOME! ....and yes, I'd have done Vera. She was probably pretty relentless in the sack.

  • @bocaknights1 I know what you mean,I am the same age.My mother watched this show all the time,we got it on Sunday nights.......would you do Vera?

  • Would anybody do Vera?

  • One of my absolute favorites!!! Thank you for sharing.

  • brings back happy memories

  • i loved the scrolling credts

  • if you look up alice tv show on amazon you can find 4 episodes one is about a gay guy alice has a crush on and at the end of that episode they play this song you can also download and own all of season 1 on I tunes every episode is great and they all feature this closing song

  • THIS IS THE CLOSING SONG OF 'ALICE ' IN THE FIRST SEASON 1976 IT IS VERY JAZZ AND HAS LINDA LAVIN WHO PLAYED ALICE SING THE LEAD VOCALS IT IS A "SKAT'' STYLE OF SINGING THAT WAS ORIGINATED PROBABLY IN THE 40"S THE SONG IS ABOUT 60 SECONDS LONG AND I CAN PLAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND ALSO REMINDS ME OF ME BEING 10 YEARS OLD WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.

  • I want an endless loop of her scatting

  • Love the closing theme. Specifically searched for it.

  • @Osani65 I also love this closing theme. It was great

  • Love this show!!!

  • the movie is better than the TV show, unless you are stoned. The movie had Jodie Foster an Tommy got his ass beat by Kris Kristofferson.

    I love the 70's!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 70s shows were the best

  • season 1 ending

  • Wow thanks! This song always got me sad cuz the day was over...

  • Got to love Alice ,but the show that brought tears to my eyes was" Hills Street blues" or even "Mash ". I could nver watch to opening song ever....

  • I've loved this for 35 yrs (since I was 5). This was used the first couple of seasons as the closing theme. The first season opening theme was great also.. but it kept changing and becoming progressivly worse with every season. You are right.. voice overs and cutting off the last 5 seconds was so aggrivating. David Shire wrote and produced this theme. He also did Manhattan Skyline on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.. which is also great! Thanx for uploading this.. i listened to it 20 times.

  • does anyone here know when this version was aired? is it the first second or third season..etc.

I have no idea but only know that BY FAR this is the best closing the show ever had

  • Comment removed

  • @ishredu This was used for the first two seasons, I think and yes, BY FAR the best closing credit theme of the ENTIRE series!!

  • @dh1173 I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ishredu

This particular showed aired on Feb.5 1977. Check IMBD.com as a reference

  • @ishredu

  • This closing segment was from Feb.5. 1977

  • @ishredu - this version of the Alice closing theme was used for the 1st 2 seasons. But in S2, instead of scrolling credits (seen here and throughout all of S1), the credits now appear in a carded motion.

  • this show needs to be released on dvd

  • @colormemichael kind of a sin that it isn't

  • @ishredu

    yes it sure is

  • OMG I LUV THIS SONG...TAKES ME BACK

  • Tvland show put this show on

  • Yeah she sure can scat!......nicely done @ the end too.....great post!

  • You go Linda, with your jazzy self!

  • dis shit bring back hella momeries ,im in my own time warp some happy some sad but theme is magic to my ears

  • na na na na-nuh-nuh-nuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh... nuhnuh nuhhhnuhnuhhh......... bubu bubuub Damn I luv Linda's scating in this Outro... sounds so damn good and pleasant.

  • @XTRABIG and this is super hard to get without a dumb tv station voice over it took me 30 odd times to get this without a voiceover

    enjoy!

  • This closing theme sounds better than some of the stuff I hear on the radio these days.

  • A true talent is one who can star in a hit TV series for 9 years, and sing the theme song, and both give you goose bumps. I just love Linda Lavin, and miss her, and this show on TV.

  • Linda Lavin is the reason I learned to love Jazz, I loved her voice.

  • wow, I got goosebumps listening to the closing. Reminder of a simpler time...

  • I agree. Politics got involved. :( We need to hunt for the people that gave us good times back then. Get them back in office and out of retirement. LOL If they're dead, dig their graves and get them back in America running things. LOL Start off with Michael Jackson and all other dead celebrities...John Candy, John Ritter, etc.

  • I agree.

  • that's quite a stretch lol

  • Huh?

  • Bom! Bom! Bom! Bom!... Bom! LOL I miss this damn show. I loved it so much. This and Gimme a Break were among my favorite shows of all time still to this day running a tight race with any TV show today.

  • @Boogers4dinner

i can't believe someone actually gave your comment thumbs down- Alice and Gimme a Break were probably my two favorite shows when I was a kid, too. In fact, Alice premiered when I was a baby, and didn't go off the air until I was 10. It was a constant in my childhood- we always watched it.

  • It's o.k. everyone's titled to their own opinion. LOL Well, you and I both know that Gimme A Break and Alice were two of the best TV shows of all time. Just like you I will always remember watching these and other great shows as a kid. Times have really changed. Today I like 2 and a Half Men, George Lopez show, and Everybody loves Raymond.

  • Kiss My Grits!!!:P

  • it needs to come SOON! especially since at some point they are going to go copywright infringement my ass..stupid if there isn't a PRODUCT!

  • Why is it taking so long to get Alice on dvd,it was a hit show,a whole lot better than some show that has made it to dvd.

  • I wish I was Alice

  • BANG! YOU'RE ALICE!

  • WHY CANT I GET THIS SHOW ON DVD?! How irritating I had to watch it with a snowy tv channel.. yeah,. I still work on aerial tv. Gives it that 1970's flavor.

  • I agree with you 100%...I looked everywhere for it on DVD..This was one of the best shows of the 70's and they have all the sorry good for nothing trashy funky and farty shows on DVD..ones I would pay a penny for or couldnt give them away to me...I feel you...

  • Isn't that weird?! Why is Alice the only show not out on DVD?! Really strange.

  • @missxradio

it makes no sense- Alice ran almost a decade, and was in the Top 10 for the majority of its' run. I'm shocked it's not on DVD yet...

  • Shame on WB for not putting this series out on DVD in Seasons. This was a great show and it's a disgrace that they would put out a teaser DVD to see how well it would sell before puttting it out in Seasons

  • OMG I know! Some of the things on DVD amaze me yet this show was a hit for so many years. Over 200 episodes yet not a word about a dvd season.

  • @PGMEagle I totally agree with you.

  • @PGMEagle

    i know right.

  • The best of the Alice closing themes, later versions weren't very good. :(

  • I know - this is a good arrangment. I love Linda Lavin's scatting at the end.

  • me, too.

  • @hamtrak

there is one closing theme exactly like this one... just a lil bit faster. I like the faster one. No difference between the two but for speed.

  • @XTRABIG they are NOT exact in any way

  • This Is One Of Those Shows That Inspired Me To Sneak To New York City and Study At Juilliard! Vera From Alice And Laverne And Shirley. Especially when they tap danced!

  • Nevermind the guys below. Rhoda made me move to New York City and it was the best thing I ever did.

  • whatever happend? pop culture had such a power over people.

  • Technology and capitalism happened. Company's wanted to make more money without having to hire studios musicians so as the years went by the theme songs went from musicians to computerized music to brief intro pieces to now where very little intro music is used on shows. Now when a show starts they go right into it. If you notice in pop music they weeded out actual musicians and have one person to do are the sound on computer.

  • awesome

  • Man, the theme brings a tear to my eye. This wasn't all that long ago, but, things sure were different then. I love to hear Linda Lavin sing the opening theme, plus this, the closing.

  • twas a long time ago 21 plus years!

  • 21 years ain't nothing in the span of things

  • But in tv years it's an eternity

  • @audiophile55 I use to watch this show as a kid, but you say it wasn't that long ago? The show ran from 1976-1985, so it ended more than 25 years ago. That is a long time. I was 8 to 17 when it was on, and am about to turn 43 years old.

  • Ahhhh, yesss. The days before cable. I can almost feel the bloody welts from Father's belt. The cold, indifferent stare from Mother. Fishcakes for dinner, anyone?

  • OH dear!!!!

  • Are you fucking kidding me?

  • I wish I were.

  • i love this entire song and Linda Lavin is a great singer and star !!!wonder where she is now??

  • According to Wikipedia, she lives in Wilmington, NC

  • Amazing, considering her personality I could see her being in NYC 4-iver !

  • Tell me about, sometimes it is just cool to see what year, in case we forgot.

  • I loved this closing theme. It was so jazzy, I loved Miss Lavin's voice. People are always saying Polly Holiday stole the show, let's hear her sing it!

  • is your real name hatch?

    might be related

  • Yes, but I don't think so, my Father was an only child, his whole family is gone except myself and my 3 brothers. Rick

  • so is mine] my mothers fathers name was charles hatch ,you may not be aware that we [if related in some loose way] are also related to princess Diana, I have a sister who is very much into this shoot me a pm and I can figure it out..btw we are from CT.

  • My father's name was Charles Hatch too. I live in New York State. You can find me on yahoo. Thanks, Richard Hatch

  • My favorite too :)

  • was that from the pilot episode?

  • no it was a mid year ep 2nd or 3rd season

  • This is great! Does anyone know why networks now curtail the closing theme and video so that they can put in their own advertising? I can't be the only one dismayed by this!

  • in a word?

    GREED.

this is near impossible to find "clean" this was a lucky taping indeed!

  • No that bothers me too!

  • I know, I hate that. Some themes you really wanna hear (like this one), and you want to see the credits/copyright date, and you have the stupid commercials over the closing credits. Someone should throw a hissy fit over this, that they're not getting proper credit anymore!

  • fum, fum, fum, fum!I love the way Linda crooned at the end.

  • Linda who?

    And "kiss my grits"

  • nice

  • Thanks for bringing back a Happy mamory!

  • Great song. Didn't realize that the lyrics were written by the Bergmans. They have written countless movie songs. David Shire wrote the music.

  • I think this is so unique, her singing was great not to many shows have the star of the show singing the theme song and ending song not even today. this is classic.....

  • i loved this show..it was sort of a mixture of 9 TO 5 & LAVERNE & SHIRLEY but it was really good.

  • Definitely "9 to 5": Alice was the Lily Tomlin character, Vera Jane Fonda, and Flo was Dolly Parton

  • I love the faster version of the outro. Music was better and Her Scatting was really Good for a white woman(Italian/Jewish?). Didn't know at first she was doing the vocals.

  • I dunno I think this version eats the faster one it grooves harder IMHO

  • I like this much more than any of the opening tunes I've heard from this show.
