@joeduece1 It is an 305, the RS in NOT a 350, sorry to break that to you. Besides, if that was a 350, and it's barely beating a 281 I feel sorry for the owner...
@getoffmeluckycharms While i don't think this particular RS is a 350,the 350 could be had in an RS if it was ordered with the code B4C.Most of the B4C Camaro's were ordered for police duty, but some made it into the hands of the general public. Not all B4C's were 350 with automatic trannies however, some were 305's with 5 speed manual trannies, and those particular tpi 305's had a more aggressive cam and were actually a bit faster than Mustangs of the same vintage.
@derrdon Ahh you're right. The RS's were generally 305's, I forgot about that. It was the Z28's that were 350's. With these cars, it's all about the torque anyway lol
FIREBIRDS and Camaros are the exact same cars!!! just with different trim/ground effects etc... the only time i thing the firebird looks better than a Camaro is the 4th generation (they looked sexy) :)
@38snipshow loool your giving out GM secrets theyll go outa business if you tell people. 4th gen firebirds are much much nicer though IDk wtf they were thinking with the body design on Camaro during those years they turned it into a boat.
The TPI was available in either the L98 or the LB9 (305). The 'Vette got alum. heads. The F-bodies did not.
The LT-1 in the 1970 Camaro was the first "LT-1". The newer LT1 was not the same block. Same pistons and crank design, but a Gen 2 had reverse flow cooling. The blocks and heads are not interchangeable. The LT1 in the B-body cars got iron heads. Only the Vette and the F-bodies got alum. heads. The LS engines are completely different all together. Nothing like the Gen 1 and Gen 2 blocks.
Ok, all the TPI and LT1 engines used the same internals. LT1 used aluminum head with different combustion chambers, different induction and computer system. The reason people compare the 2 is because they use the SAME DAMN ENGINE. Difference is state of tune. Not sure who said it, but the L98 made 245hp and *340* ft/lbs torque. LT1's peak torque was lower to facilitate higher RPM breathing. Reason the T-5 was never used with the 350 was because T-5 was rated at 300 ft/lbs, would've been shredded
Just my 2 cents so here it is, Yes there was a 350 called the lt1 in 1970, but its no relation to the mordern one just a name like ls6(1970 454 the new 6.0l v-8). For the tpi and 90's lt1s there is a difference. Both share the same block, pistons and all that crap. corvette has a true dual exhaust system , bigger heads , and its a 4bolt main instead of a 2bolt. That's really the only difference. The corvette makes more power cause it can breathe better basically.
corvette is NOT A CAMARO QUITE COMPARING THE TWO! I BET I CAN MAKE MY CAMARO JUST AS BADASS AS THE VETTE WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY AND ILL STILL HAVE FOUR SEATS! HAHA DO SOME RESEARCH! GT'S R JUST BREAKFAST WHERS LUNCH AND DINNER?
@1975elcid too bad the 3100 V6's and 305s were piss poor choices for powerplants in them they could have at least made the V^ a 3800 off the buick line and used a better cam in the 305s to give them something, otherwise the cars just a looker with no balls ( I would know I have one lol)
@mastaajbomb well not entirely true. im just repeating what i have heard though. im not bagging on birds at all. the birds a maros are basically the exact same car, just with a different appearence. it just comes down to what you prefer in looks. i personally like camaros just a little bit more.
@jphilpott0426 same damn car lol, firebird looks nicer on the inside tho, i got a 92 bird , but i rly like 3rd gen camaros look from the outside, they are fuking beautiful cars for the era they were built. Look at the foxbody mustang, the first models were fucking ugly.
haha your both stupid and its f ing funny! do some research instead of looking stupid! you both dont kno what your talking about! but one of you makes sense! lets see if we can figure out who...... do some research first appearence means nothing internals everything! why do people mix corvette with camaro? nothing but the block and intake are the same! not even the tune! where did ls1 come into this? it has nothing to do with the lsx series motors! LO3 VERSE L98? YEA RITE NOT EVEN CLOSE!
what an average 1/4 mile time for an early 90's RS? friend just picked on up and im pretty sure i can outrun him in my 97 GTP but just double checkin.
15.7-16.4 usally on a stock automatic and the 5 speed cars would run 3 tenths faster usally. this is usally the case on tbi cars. tuned port 305's ran low 15's high 14's and the 350 tuned port ran mid 14's
I have an 85 Camaro with a 350 and 4speed auto. I have a performance cam and a bigger carburator. It has a 2:73 gear and I get 14:40 on the 1/4 mile. I could trim that down to low 13s easily by shanging the gear ratio.
OK...to clear things up..GM put in alot of different engines in the 82-92 years. mostly the 305, but in many different setups. Also the 350 TPI. This one is the 305 L03, same as my car. It's the lowest output V8 they put in these cars. 170 HP, 255 tourqe. The 5.0 fox mustang does beat this, but that isnt really fair, this is the RS version.
the ONLY reason that piece of crap with a blue oval on it beats the 305 TBI is because of the gearing, I switched mine out for a 4:10 and threw a hurst ratchet shifter on and I smoke fox bodies all day. Total cost of mods: about $100 and 3 or 4 hours.
the 350 tpi is the vette motor in the mid to late 80's. its the same thing, nothing different. maybe the cam specs and thats all. it IS a vette engine. they never mounted a 5 speed with the 350 for 2 possibilities, 1 being insurance costs. the second being, they couldnt have the camaro being near as fast as the corvette. if you notice, even the newer vetts only run mid to low 13's. you wanna know why?! becuase its a lt1. yep. lt1. with a 6 speed, the camaro's can hang. know your facts.
WOW! ok maybe you should learn your facts... ONE the ONLY similarity between the Vette TPI 350 and the Camaro 350 TPI is the TPI unit itself, and exterior appearance. Otherwiase just about everything is different.. also notice how one makes alot more power than ther other.. and the ACTUAL reason the 5 spd wasn't put behind the 350 was b/c it is a shit tranny,T-5's blow out under those torque numbers....
oh NO, still not done. if you pulled the numbers from a 94 corvette, whats that come back as?...lt1. that right there tells you something, correct? dont get me started on the lsx engine. thats a whole new breed along with the ls series. and what hp and tq did the l98 put down? around 245 and what 260? lt1's put down 275 with alum. heads. 6 speed, GM t56, corvettes lt1, put down near the same. with a GM t56. and the actual reason a t-5 was never used, was never really discussed. do some reserch
your an idiot and don't know shit, of course i know they are the same BLOCK! but the internals are different and diff hp numbers duh. so if you have a firebird and say it has a vette engine your dead wrong, cause the vette motor has more power. and the first LT1 came out in 1992 dumbass, not 1970. similar block BUT Lt1 and LS1 etc. don't stand for blocks its majorly the difference in the induction system. wow you make domestic lovers look fuckin stupid...
And if you didn't know newer vettes run 11's dumbass. and newer vetts use the LS1 and LS6's and the LSX series blocks. its NOT IN ANYWAY an Lt1. Learn the ACTUAL facts.... You shouldn't even own a Camaro if you seriously believe the garbage you just posted....
ok, because, and only because, you filling these peoples heads with well, lets call it garbage, if your goin to say that the ls1's they put in camaro's arent ls1's. then lt1's they put in camaro's and corvettes. arent lt1's. and by newer, i meant to around 94-95 ish. they werent lt1's? if you recall, they also put lt1's in early 70 camaros, tell me that isnt an lt1. if you pulled up the numbers off the block from a 1989 corvette, whats it come back as? ....L98... a camaro(firebird) engine.
anyways. they indeed, put an lt1 in earlier cars. no, it wasnt fuel injected. no its not an aluminum headed 346 cubic inch like the (ls1) but it indeed is an lt1..... what internals are different? did 1 have a 3.48 stroke with 4 inch bore? the other have a 3.00 stroke with 4 inch bore (327) tell me i dont know my shit. fuck you. haha. wait, what are we fighting about? all we are doin is proving both ourselves wrong. we both love domestic, lets jus leave it at that
yes we love domestic, but an LT1 is not an Lt1 without the injection system...and that earlier motor is not an lt1... its just a basic 350 small block with aluminum heads...
not with a simple gear replacement, my 305 TBI RS kills fox bodies and it's got no other mods but a 4:10. I think it might have been a 2.73 that I took out, I remember is was huge 1st gear was worthless.
In the early 80's there was a high output carburated 305 called the L69 (it was basically an LG-4 305 with the wick turned up a bit) and it could beat some 5.0 stangs.
@treyofour they dont but some guy once showed up to a car show in a fox body mustang, 85 5.0 cammer, suspension redon put a 5 spd tranny on her, and it was his REGISTERED police interceptor he got paperwork and municipal plates for it man, thats one cop car I do NOT want running me down
@ITS4390 the cop car cams make more torque less horsepower for reliability and lower rear axle you can do that with yours the stock 5.0 stangs had 200hp
@lolmbclol my dad saw a bunch of cop cars at a dealership getting cop shit put on, and they said they dont sup up the motor at all, completely stock crown victorian motors is all they go with!
