Not every religion condemns homosexuality, not even all Christian church's condemn homosexuality. Besides, everyting IS up to interpretation, blind belief without understanding is not faith at all, so you really HAVE to interpret your own religion in order to really be faithful. Gabe, I don't understand your point. Children in gay homes are not being abused. I have two gay fathers, and my brothers and I had a happy childhood. We're perfectly normal people who are good citizens, and we're educated and employed and are living good lives. Why shouldn't our dads have raised us? No religion should dictate laws to a secular government. The founders of America fled a country where they were forced to follow religious dictates they did not believe in. In order to prevent that from happening, they removed the influence of any particular religion from government.

None of what you said is the issue. The issue is equal rights under the law. Denying gay people legal marriage is:
1- Sex discrimination, because it forbids a man to do what a woman can do, ie marry a man
2- Religious discrimination, because our law recognizes the marriages performed in some churches and not others. Our law even recognizes plural marriages.
3- Equal protection of the law- reason is self evident.
Listen, our conversation is a dead end as we obviously do not agree. All I'm saying is that the vote is sacrosanct in that it must be honored. As a resident of Iowa, I know for a fact that them activist judges lifted the ban on gay marriage so that they could start a money-making pyramid scheme.
It wasn't because the ban on gay marriage violated the Equal Protection Clause of the state constitution or the Establishment and Free Exercise clauses of the first amendment, or anything: it was juts a conspiracy so let's go ahead on and totally ban gay marriage again with a reckless disregard for the first amendment!

This to me is a non-issue. If you don't agree with marriage equality, don't marry someone of the same sex! As a school teacher, I don't ever recall reading/citing the words..."with liberty and justice for ALL" and seeing the word, "except". Separate but equal does not, has not and should not work. We can not "eenie meenie miney moe" through our neighborhoods and point to who is allowed marriage or not. As a christian and American, I am for equality, love, and acceptance for all human life:)

Civil unions are not as legally binding, they cost thousands of dollars to get, and can be contested in custody hearings as well as inheritances. Separate is not equal, at least its not here in the US.

Not every religion condemns homosexuality, not even all Christian church's condemn homosexuality. Besides, everyting IS up to interpretation, blind belief without understanding is not faith at all, so you really HAVE to interpret your own religion in order to really be faithful. Gabe, I don't understand your point. Children in gay homes are not being abused. I have two gay fathers, and my brothers and I had a happy childhood. We're perfectly normal people who are good citizens, and we're educated and employed and are living good lives. Why shouldn't our dads have raised us? The founders of this country were Christians who wanted to practice their Christian denomination's beliefs without be oppressed by the government. This country was supposed to be a Christian state with the freedom of choice of denomination, not a secular state with freedom of any religion. No religion should dictate laws to a secular government. The founders of America fled a country where they were forced to follow religious dictates they did not believe in. In order to prevent that from happening, they removed the influence of any particular religion from government.
This protects Christians from having to follow laws dictated by a Hindu majority, or Muslims from following laws dictated by a Jewish majority.

Dewalt, gay men and women are not sterile. Lesbians give birth all the time. They can easily have kids through donor insemination. Gay men can provide sperm and have kids through surrogacy. The same people that are shouting that gay marriage is a sin are the same people that said it would be the end of the world when a black person could marry a white person in the 1940's. This is a RIGHTS issue. A majority has a right while denying a minority that same right. It is so simple, but so hard for people to understand. You want to protect your marriage? Don't get divorced. If you are against gay marriage, don't marry someone that is the same sex as you are. Pretty easy stuff here guys!

This to me is a non-issue. If you don't agree with marriage equality, don't marry someone of the same sex! As a school teacher, I don't ever recall reading/citing the words.."with liberty and justice for ALL" and seeing the word, "except". Separate but equal does not, has not and should not work. We can not "eenie meenie miney moe" through our neighborhoods and point to who is allowed marriage or not. As a christian and American, I am for equality, love, and acceptance to all human life. :)

To explain the sexism comment: Men and women should have equal right to enter into consenting legal contracts.
If a woman can enter into a contract with a man, another man should also have that right, otherwise it's two-way sexual discrimination.
To deny me the right to marry my husband because I'm a man is to discriminate against my chromosomes, something I was born with and cannot change.
It's also denying the religious rights of those churches who bless same sex marriages.

In the Supreme Court decision that allowed people of different races to marry, the courts declared, and this was at least 60 years ago, that it is a fundamental right for people to marry the person of their choice.
To deny that to same sex couples is sexism.

Incorrect. The same-sex movement is driven by cultural change and demographics.
People over 65 are the strongest opponents and people under 20 are the strongest advocates. The different age groups grew up in very different times. Gays were once considered scurges and are now considered just regular folks.
Those older folks will soon die off and the young people will soon be in charge. In a few years, gay marriage will be completely normalized and no longer considered controversial.

The biggest insult to the institution of marriage is DIVORCE. It cause more heartache and trauma to children than any same-sex marriage ever will. Where's the justice on that...oh wait, we all decided that divorce isn't a sin in our pick and choose manner of devotion. If California can divorce the recent same-sex marriages, they should rescind all the divorces that have ever been granted in the state. Talk about special interest groups?!

1. The Bible was written in a VERY different time for a VERY different group of people.
2. The Bible has been reinterpreted, rewritten, edited, changed, copied and pasted to the point that the original intent is easily debatable.
3. Even the very few passages 'referring' to 'homosexuality' is arguable at best that is, in fact, referring to homosexuality.
4. The main point of the Bible was love and acceptance.

None of what you said is the issue. The issue is equal rights under the law. Denying gay people legal marriage is:
1- Sex discrimination, because it forbids a man to do what a woman can do, ie marry a man
2- Religious discrimination, because our law recognizes the marriages performed in some churches and not others. Our law even recognizes plural marriages.
3- Equal protection of the law- reason is self evident.

Listen, our conversation is a dead end as we obviously do not agree. All I'm saying is that the vote is sacrosanct in that it must be honored. Our country has always ran this way and it will continue to do so. We cannot say that this subject musn't be voted on because we believe strongly about it, because everyone would play that card. Essentially, I'm content with what Iowa has to say about it, and I will support that decision
