@TheStratman2617 -It's a Guild Starfire. It was Guild's answer to a Gibson ES-335. One in good condition today will fetch some good dollars. Tom's guitar in the video sure was a nice looking one, I can swear it has an ebony fingerboard.
Sadly, Tom is no longer with us. He passed away in 1990. He got AIDS through a blood transfusion while having back surgery....of all the rotten luck..

@mitchdau That's cos this was a videotape transferred to film (so the tapes can be reused, typical british policy in those days) and transferred back to video. I must say that this transfer looks really good, especially compared to The Oakland Concert special.
Great post. Several months ago, someone posted a first-generation soundboard copy of this same clip, looked as if it had been recorded yesterday. Shoulda downloaded it while I could...
Perhaps the best American rock 'n' roll band ever! They were roots rock before the term had been coined and, at a time when all their peers were altering the traditional rock formula, they looked back at '50s rock 'n' roll, rhythm 'n' blues, country e.t.c. Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame described their music perfectly I think : progressively anachronistic!
yep, Fogerty is good... but he did screw himself out of the best band ever... his brother told him on his death bed before he died that he acted like a total dick at the end of CCR. Live and learn! He still can't perform these songs live to this day (or at least recieve money for them). There are two sides to every story but Fantasy records never had a bad rep for treating artists poorly.

Tengo 42 tacos, y a los de mi generación, que dicen que los 80´s fueron los mejores años. NO WAY. Porque nunca, en nuestra época, pese a haber grandes bandas, igualamos esto, ni a los Zeppelin, ni a los Stones, ni a Janis Joplin, etc, etc, 0k?
You can't tell me that the new band he's with now can even come close to the kind of energy you saw here. No way! This was close to the time I saw them, and the crowd went insane then, also. Esp. on this one-their encore number. Yeah sure, the musicians he has now are all top notch, but...

Think who their competition was when they were making their name - The Doors, Hendrix, The Stones & The Beatles. Joplin, The Who, The (young) Grateful Dead. Man they HAD to be good.
These boys could hang with anybody in their prime. The studio releases are tame but people forget CCR was one of the ass kickingest live bands in history. They had that gut-bucket lowdown groove going that gave them a signature sound that NOBODY ever could follow. Probably the best pure Rock band to ever come out of America.
Jesus christ! this is kick ass! This was a real concert! the crowd was going ape shit the whole number! CCR was on fire this night, They kept the magic going the whole song. Few bands could pull this off. This just goes to show CCR was the real deal. That`s also got to be one of the simplest stage`s I`ve ever seen, no frills, the bare basics. No distractions. This must have been the idea "look and listen to us" and it worked.

this is devil music......hahahahahah...just kidding this frekin orgasmic, though i bet there were them sum bitches that did say this was like devil worship
Fantastic jam, look and John just guitar and a cord plugged into the kustom amps, pure tube tone, no pedals, processors , nothing but raw guitar, that's why it was so good in those days IMHO.Thanks for posting loved it.
CCR IN LONDON .. sooooooo long ago! but this weekend, Sept 4 2009, they're playing in ALASKA at the State Fair and you bet your ass I am making that 600 mi round trip!!!! Only two orig band members but oh just to listen and remember .. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!
YEHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Born in the 50's, rocked out in the 60's ... til NOW! Will til I die!
That's E7 played up the neck. It's a classic CCR chord they perfected best with Born on the Bayou. Of course most of you 'ol pickers already know that.
is this the famous oakland concert? he sounds pretty southern for a guy from california....just a thought.....I think he sounds pretty stupid when he talks like that....he's an intelligent guy, l don't know why he does that...maybe that's how he stays in the mood for the concert? who knows.

Fantastic jam, look and John just guitar and a cord plugged into the kustom amps, pure tube tone, no pedals, processors , nothing but raw guitar, that's why it was so good in those days IMHO.Thanks for posting loved it.

Agreed, except Kustom amps are solid state not tube-he used to play through a Fender Twin in the studio, but this one is solid state..look it up.

But what a chord and how well played.
littlebigbrain 2 years ago
That's E7 played up the neck. It's a classic CCR chord they perfected best with Born on the Bayou. Of course most of you 'ol pickers already know that.

is this the famous oakland concert? he sounds pretty southern for a guy from california....just a thought.....I think he sounds pretty stupid when he talks like that....he's an intelligent guy, l don't know why he does that...maybe that's how he stays in the mood for the concert? who knows.
