  • Thumbs up if Ginger Baker brought you here.

  • A real yawner.

  • This isn't shit man. Its better then any song from this generation that fer sure.

  • Strangely enough, this is actually one of my favourite Cream songs

  • as the wind on the sea.. the song is so relaxing

  • this is awful haha what were they thinking?

  • THE MOST APPALLING PIECE OF SHIT I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE.

  • Gay

  • my favorite cream song

  • lol. awesome vid

  • Baker still talks about how much he hates this song.

  • @Exilemainstreet Ginger claims Eric hated it too, which seems quite believable..partly for it being the beginning of Jack & Pete hogging song-writing credits, but also for how how sappy it is. A commercial decision to enter the pop arena? Please! It's just bad. Jack probably thought he was making out on royalties, but if he'd shared the wealth, Cream might've stayed together.

  • The Fantasticos!!! Sweet, gloom, beautiful retro '20s/psychedelic jazz tune. Jack, Ginger, Eric: creative and original people. Thx UmeshUmesh!

  • May I recommend 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is particularly fond of this quaint tune.

  • Sounds like a christmas song.

  • i love this

  • Terrible, just terrible.

  • this song is a literal joke, it was written and released as their first single to fuck with their fans, cream's forming was big news at the time and their first single was greatly anticipated, they wanted to give the fans something they wouldn't expect

  • not that bad but out of character

but they needed a lyric writer

didnt ginger baker write sweet wine?

still a good song (so is this one)

  • Call me crazy, but this song almost seems like it fits the plot of the movie somewhere in time...

  • don't you idiot haters realize they were high? smoke a j and listen then you will understand :>

  • @foleydvm if you need to smoke a joint to like a song, it defeats the purpose of music itself

  • Awesome song definitely

  • * * * * *

  • I don't know who this ginger individual is, however I do love this song and Anyone For Tennis. He(or she?) just can't appreciate variety I guess...

  • @HamsterFueledRocket

This 'Ginger' character is Ginger Baker, their drummer. Regardless, this is one of my favorite Cream songs.

  • what on earth wernt they on ????

  • sorry Ginger, this is good!

  • @catchsight I hear you my friend, i love crusing thru the city feeling pretty listening to wrapping paper!

  • Baker was right, this is shit.

  • Ginger Baker has displayed great disgust for the particular Cream Single, but I actually find it pleasing to my ears. I like it because it isn't the typical cream song.

  • Baker is not alone in his assessment of this song. Eric Clapton thought it was shite too! And with good reason- it doesn't resemble anything the actual "Cream" ever did. It was Peter Brown's attempt at a career. Very sad. And this is all so long ago.

  • @altstrasse pete brown wrote lyrics with jack bruce while he was in the cream then he had a group called battered ornaments which sounds like the cream then he wrote songs with jack bruce on his solo album after the cream

  • It's about Blotter Acid.

  • pressed rat and warthog! PRESSED RAT AND WARTHOG!!! If you want some cream...

  • Comment removed

  • Ginger was wasted in the infamous interview, this track pre-dates the Beatles White Album with some tracks of the same genre.

Ahead of it's time and a pepto bismol to the age of fast, cranky, pop, a band ahead of it's time with incredible true musicians.

  • It's a regular song. Not great. Ginger Baker's asshole-ish-ness far outweighs his talent. He has the credentials of playing with many of the greats, but many of the greats have had the good fortune of playing with much better musicians who don't have personality disorders.

  • Ginger Baker absolutely detests this song, but I love it. It has that american 19th century saloon appeal to it. It was controversial for cream making this there first single, because they were know for playing hard driving R&B and Rock, but they did a good job with this. ALl Cream Stuff is awesome to me. I think its because I'm a huge fan of all them, especially ginger.

  • I think the naysayers are just taking sides with Ginger and not listening to the actual song. This is a great song and reflects the time it was written. Very lovin spoonful. I like it.

  • HOW STUPID. THIS SOUNDS LIKE SHIT.

  • APPAULING

  • even though this song is soft jazz in comparison to their rough blues sound, i like this song though.

  • why do they hate this song so much? i love it..

  • WRAPPING PAPER. IS THE MOST APPAULING PIECE OF SHIT. IVE EVER HEARD. IN MY LIFE.

  • nice backround...

    BEST CREAM SONG EVER

    that was a joke

  • The band talks about this song on the DVD "Classic Albums - Disraeli Gears." They say how they liked to shock people, and this song was their first release for that reason. It's more of them fucking with their audience. Since at the time everyone was anticipating Eric Clapton's supposed "super group" he was forming. It's a joke.

  • Everyone here has the worse taste in music ever, this is a beautiful song.

  • @blindmansam Then so be it! This song isn't beautiful.

  • Gotta agree with Ginger. This is pretty bad. It would be fine as part of some on-stage musical or something. A little, light-airy ditty, you promptly forget at the start of the next scene.

  • THIS ISN'T MASTER OF PUPPETS

  • Kinda reminds me of the old British music hall style. I can almost imagine Paul McCartney writing this for the "B" side of a 1966 single or a bonus track for Magical Mystery Tour.

  • Damn. Ginger Baker was right. This sucks.

  • wow did cream really evolve. their first single sucked. how could you jack?

  • what the fuck is everybody talking about? this is good fucking music right here, timeless.

  • @Vertsk8er419 just shows that they don't get it....

  • @Vertsk8er419 i know right!

  • JAWAD SUCKS

  • I hate how when i look up good songs i always read arguments in the comments, can't we just praise and enjoy anything anymore? I love this song, and just because ginger baker doesn't like it doesn't mean you have to agree, he is a great drummer, but a very rotten lad. Anyway, i love this song, long live cream

  • wait someone explain to me how cream went from an epic trio and turned into a gay piece of bullshit band producing this garbage?

  • I'm loving the comments on this song. It is a good song, very quaint. Ginger Baker didn't like it because it heralded the birth of the Pete Brown/Jack Bruce songwriting axis, and in those days Ginger and Jack were the best of enemies.

  • birth of bruce, brown in other wards Stupidity

  • GB dont like it cos its not about drumming, its about love.. yeah it's a bit weak compared to their other stuff but makes you wonder if GB was ever in love?

  • @fins59 This is an attempt at writing a meaningful song about something others see as benign. This is the musical equivalent of filming a floating plastic bag. " Oooh, a discarded piece of gift wrap." "I'm a poet, and I see the art in everything" Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail.

  • @2010cynic Btw, I know it's about love and how things can start out so shiny and new and turn crummy. Clever, at best. The melodies are certainly not musically superior.

  • terrible fucking song from a very good band...

  • nice song.

  • I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED IT... I THINK THIS IS A SONG i'D EXPECT TO HEAR 'QUEEN' DO... I LIKE IT, HONESTLY, I DON'T REALLY PAY ANY ATTENTION TO ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF GINGER BAKERS MOUTH.

  • @danzbmw You're right it does sound like Queen!

  • Don't give a fuck which members of Cream disliked this and how much, I fucking love it.

  • I'd guess that this song, and Good Day Sunshine, and other like them, are tributes to the older musical styles that these young musicians heard when they were children - like today we have retro bands

  • this is a cute song and a cute video...and then you self-proclaimed music buffs just go and strip everything sweet about it away with your dumb irrelevant music history facts. f you guys. You are what is wrong with the world.

  • @haytoniaho : I always loved this song. Ginger Baker absolutely hates it. But I always dug it...

  • @haytoniaho I thought we were commenting on the song, not typing insults. Maybe you could use some personal insight?

  • Beautiful song.

  • with lyrics included i see it has an, um, quaint, soft, sweet, endearing "Barbershop" feeling to it... almost no place on a hard Rock album, but then a lot of Queen's stuff didn't either and they just kind of hammered them to fit.

and, then, the fact that Ginger and Eric hated it, and played it anyway?

    bravo.

  • Wrapping Paper-think good day sunshine (Beatles)-both songs seem to be influenced by the Lovin Spoonful which was a hot band at the time.

  • Also love this peace for a very long time,no matter what they say.

  • Sounds more like Harper's Bizarre

  • Yeah, this is PRETTY bad music. Little wonder Eric and Ginger despised it.

  • lol what ever its just blues dickface.. who fucking cares if ginger and clapton hated it.

  • I wonder why they released it as a single?

IMO, the idea of using Christmas wrapping paper as a video for this is a bit hackneyed.

However, as has been said by others, I too love this appalling piece of shit, and thanks for putting it on Youtube!

  • They were trying to put every b-movie cliche they could into it, and it is awesome as a counterpoint to their matchless blues-prog-rock - buy the box set!

  • I don't care about what everyone says...

I love this appalling piece of shit... :-p

Bruce will always be my favorite...

  • good music for pot lol

  • Was this perhaps Cream's one and only attempt at a Christmas song?

  • Comment removed

  • One of the best cream pieces.

  • Ginger:"Wrapping paper is the most piece of shit ive ever heard..." :P

  • @blapis89 "wrapping paper is the most Appalling piece of shit I've ever heard in my life"

  • @blapis89 I agree except I think "Anyone for Tennis" is #1 and this is #2 for worse piece of crap songs by Cream. And they stick it on almost every Best of / Greatest Hits CD's out there. :-PPPP

  • @kassx1 rofl yeah, maybe ginger didnt remember they also wrote anyone for tennis :P

  • @kassx1 Anyone For Tennis is fucking beautiful

  • @blapis89 it doesnt sound like the cream it sounds like jack bruces solo record that was yet to come so he didnt like it if it was up to him it wouldnt have been released

  • I agree Ginger its lame especially considering it came out in 1966.

  • Sounds like Cream's attempt to be the Beatles. LOL

  • no it sounds like cream trying to be cream, simple as that

  • Except that two out of three members of the Cream hated it, simple as that.

  • Comment removed

  • Kinda like 'Mothers Lament'..just one of those filler tracks,..they're not really what the band was about.

  • I allways thought of this song as an interlude - that they where just fooling around.

  • i agree. like the Beatles' yellow submarine...a fun track. not to be taken so seriously

  • i rather like this song, though most certainly not the usual cream sound...it's a shame ginger baker had such low opinions of this song hahahahah though i must say his response to this song is classic

  • in my opinion this is a load of shit clapton is so mutch better than this

  • just because he isnt soloing for 10 minutes?? Classic rock fans are so shallow sometimes, all they care about is masturbatory guitar indulgence--if a song doesnt contain some extended jam it aint good. What a crock of shit dude.

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

As for people saying it's filler, that's it's not as good as their other stuff...I'll argue that to the end of the day. It deals with major/minor gambits on the IV chord, secondary dominants; it's musically superior, and it's not filled with pentatonic wanking for a few minutes. It's much more interesting than the standard 1-4-5 thing Cream usually did.

  • @RNRDOLL This song is junk. It lacks real emotion. This is pop. Waste of talent, waste waste waste. Other than the lyrics, the song is unoriginal. It sounds like phony art/pop/rock. Complete garbage. Has nothing to do with "wanking" or "soloing". What about Pink Floyd? See, now their songs weren't trash like this one. If you insist we like guitar extravagance.

  • @2010cynic An youre the dictator of whats emotive? My view is this, Cream was HUGE. They had nothing to prove, I mean shit...that cover of Crossroads is like..damn. So if they wanna lay it back a little and get the pop bug out, fuck it..I say go for it! Like EVH after making that first VH record dude, everyone KNEW how important he was to us guitarists..he didnt have anything left to prove, the rest for him is just fun ya know. I cant stand elitists regarding music.

  • @RNRDOLL Your words are very true, but also extremely irrelevant to this subject. Every band does an indulgence piece, even Billy Corgan's been guilty of doing 'My Blue Heaven'. Whatever the song above was meant to convey, it strays suddenly and painfully from what Cream was all about. This has nothing to do with 'masturbatory guitar indulgence' (Tales of Brave Ulysses had very little lead guitar work and was great), it has everything to do with an artistic styling that doesn't really fit.

  • @RNRDOLL Ginger Baker is the drummer u douche

  • @severalspecies987 I fucking know that, douche. By the way, in WHAT part of ANYTHING I said did I confuse anything about Ginger Baker you dickless piece of shit. Now go fucking to your homework, little prick.

  • @severalspecies987 Open your mouth again, and I fuckin slap your little punk ass.

  • @RNRDOLL non the less this song kinda blows. no matter who is singing it.

  • no, this song sounds like a fucking show tune. thats why the sucks

  • @RNRDOLL I don't know who you're talking to but whoever thinks this song isn't good has god brain problems, like seriously..... I'd jump off a bridge if I were them !

  • @RNRDOLL What the hell Jack Bruce is the shit I said..He is the king of Classic Rock. It just so happens that he wrote the riff that revolutionized the sound of the 70's and he is underestimatedso don't talk shit on him. He is the King of Rock.

  • @Siddle66 hes not exactly the king of rock.....

  • @Siddle66 jack bruce was the Maestro of jazz.rented to rock and roll. look at Apostrophe where he jam with frank zappa and after tell me what you think

  • Smooth as silk. Like Reddiwhip for the mind. I love it, but I can see why you might not. To the right person, this would be fucking loathesome.

  • To quote the great Ginger Baker: "Wrapping Paper is the most appaling piece of shit I've ever heard!"

  • word

  • I understand why Ginger and Eric hated this song though...lol, the drums are boring, and the lead guitar is plain, but I still love it:3

  • Ginger and Eric didn't like it?

that's tooo bad. . . cuz i love it to death.

  • Haha, yeah, I like it alot to, the good thing is that it was also released on B sides from the BBC.

  • @StringsxLights .........and every other song you think your friends never heard of. Sometimes a piece of garbage is simply a piece of garbage. The video makes this song even more horrid.

  • Shit man...I totally forgot about this song. I LOVE this fucking song man...

  • yeah, i really love it when all of a band's songs sound exactly the same too! (ps. i understand what you mean, and i saw the ginger vid as well... i just think all the drama that has always surronded cream is funny becuz they all disliked each other more or less from the start.... so the question is: if yr already pretty much just there for the money, who cares what yr playing?)yeah its not blues and kind of cheezy, but not a bad song

  • Clapton gets along with both of them, but Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce HATE each other. The only reason they did the reunion was because Clapton wanted to do it.

  • This is sour cream. :)

  • Really great song.

  • It's something you'd hear from a film like Toy Story. Catchy and makes you smile...but it's not Cream.

  • 0Wagon0 -thats exactly right

  • =( that dont sound like the cream i know, i want the sunshine of your love and white room cream the shouldnt of made that song

  • Comment removed

  • yea with ginger? i saw it i lol'd

  • you have fallen

    that was great

  • i didnt say i hated it, yea its good but it doesnt fit in with their other songs. doesnt sound somethin like cream would make.

  • hahaha la madre pinchi crema se

    deja caer zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • To each his own. I and others in my family loved it.

  • ....................WHAT THE FUCK?

  • Ginger Baker can hate it as much as he wants, I still love it. It's smooth, and Jack's voice makes me melt. =)

  • what a buncha crap!!

  • Basically, it was typical of the time - putting a few 'novelties' on a record. It demonstrates what Felix Papillardi contributed to Cream: away from pop tunes and blues standards towards heavy jazz/rock fusion.

  • My first Cream CD was "The very best of Cream" released in the 90s. There this song comes first. I still like this bluesy, melancholic tune as a rarity in the general Cream repertoire. (the silly lyrics wouldn't spoil it to me as I'm not a native speaker :)

  • i see why ginger baker called it shit. I saw cream at the old filmore in nov 1967. it was my first rock concert. blew me away. (5 stars anyhow).

  • That's the most appalling piece of shit I've ever heard.

  • Not exactly Cream material.

  • UmeshUmeshu様

    俺、貴方様の趣味好きですわ。

    なんかポジティブなかんじする。

    ホント、アップロードありがとうございます。

  • Ahh Mr. Baker I understand your pain. lol

  • ROFL!!!

  • Not such a bad tune as Ginger Baker makes it out to be.

    hm.

  • GREAT!!!! Dont you get it? It was the sixties...LETS EXPERIMENT!!!...its like an old jazz tune...everybody was doin' stuff like this!!! Beatles: Honey pie... Zappa: America drinks...Kinks: End of the season...the list goes on !!!!

  • haha... try to seach: gingers bakers reaction to their song wrapping paper

  • Wow, what a sappy tune, sounds like Cream on sedatives. Ginger Baker hated too - check out his hilarious comments on " gingers bakers reaction to their song wrapping paper ". I nearly died laughing.

  • ps...if ANYONE should of died from a speed overdose...its ginger. i can not believe he made it like the rest of us...i had my head practically stuck in his bass drum..i was that close to them at the Whiskey.

  • okay,,i stood 5 feet in front of Cream at the whiskey in LA...and i deserve to know what the hell is this song??? never heard of it.....its obviuosly not beyond them to do this considering swart hogs and the like...

but when who what is this....???its not that horrible....seems like a sweet walk in the park compared to im so glad or crossroads.

  • I'm a huge fan of Cream and I love this song. I don't care what anyone says. This is a good song, it reminds me a lot of 'Lovin' Spoonful'.

  • Like it. I also like Pink Floyd's San Tropez.

  • .....just pictures of wrapping paper? you couldn't find any more meaning?

  • thats how deep this song is.

  • ah yes, good point sir.

  • @flaviolima91 Yes, you nailed it. Your comment is so subtle, but so damn funny! LOLOL!!11111
