It was controversial for cream making this there first single, because they were know for playing hard driving R&B and Rock, but they did a good job with this. ALl Cream Stuff is awesome to me. As for people saying it's filler, that's it's not as good as their other stuff...I'll argue that to the end of the day. It deals with major/minor gambits on the IV chord, secondary dominants; it's musically superior, and it's not filled with pentatonic wanking for a few minutes. It's much more interesting than the standard 1-4-5 thing Cream usually did.

Whatever the song above was meant to convey, it strays suddenly and painfully from what Cream was all about. This has nothing to do with 'masturbatory guitar indulgence' (Tales of Brave Ulysses had very little lead guitar work and was great), it has everything to do with an artistic styling that doesn't really fit.

Basically, it was typical of the time - putting a few 'novelties' on a record. It demonstrates what Felix Papillardi contributed to Cream: away from pop tunes and blues standards towards heavy jazz/rock fusion.
