So beautiful... I understand the people saying they don't like some of his other work (it can be really inaccessible) but HOW could you say it about this clip? It's so profoundly gorgeous!
If an alien (an extraterrestrial), would ask me to explain what music is I would play it this piece.... followed perhaps by Debussy's 'Prelude to the afternoon of a fawn' - in my eyes this work alone is sufficient to qualify Stravinsky as the 20th Century's most influential composer - genius.
As a bassoon player, I can't imagine playing that solo, so important in the instruments' orchestral repertoire, one of the most frequently-asked audition solos... in front of the man who wrote it. Performance usually doesn't make me nervous, anymore, but *whew*.
This music is sublime. The era in which it was conceived is a time capsule of history where we are the lucky few that have been transported into dimensions of a world beyond.
ok dexjoe...u would be glad to write seven pages about stravinsky he is the greatest composer ive ever seen and hes not annoying at all and this piece is the best piece hes ever composed and i think that if you think hes annoying then you should go away and not look at these videos...
ok i never thought his comments were annoying but ok i love assuming things and wow i wrote this two months ago jeez...and another thing if you think my comments are annoying then you go away thank you very much
Such a genious!!!! I love Firebird and to see Stravinsky conduct is amazing. He does it, on the video, with great authority. I love his face expressions and the minimalistic hand movements in his conducting. Fascinating. His music is outstanding!
i dunno. which orchestra is it. i dun think a professional orchestra needs to beat at like that with right hand all the time. but it is a fantastic piece, one of the great orchestral works.
i wonder what Mozart's band would have sounded like with him conducting it?

I don't think I've ever seen the word 'genius' spelt correctly on youtube. I despair.

Wonderful to watch Sir Igor (Stravinsky) himself, composer/conductor. Great great thrill for me. Thank you, "medicitv". =jonycuddlesgert.

He rightly wasn't pleased with the bassoonist the first time he came in.
