I would like to ask you if instead of saying I will not have enough time to make a trip to you cannot say:and I will not have enough time to pay you a visit. Is this a slang?I am reffering to this expression:to pay smb a visit which means to visit someone ,as you know .
@lauradreamerprincess ... I will not have enough time to pay you a visit..it doesnt make any sense ? anyways when u r going to sit in ielts test? may be slang but i guess in formal writing we need to write precisely...
hi, i was just wondering, what does "on the grounds" actually mean?or how should i apply it on other sentences..?i've never came across with that phrase before..
this is so helpful. i will be taking the IELTS final test this july 31, 2010.. gud gosh!! i only have one month review preparation. u think i can make it.?
i like this letter man but its too formal and too complicated that "Waive" regretfully etc. i am born in Australia and my first language is english but cant you write the letter more simpler or does it have to be formal that what you wrote?
thanks

thanks for taking time to teach us.But I would appreciate if you could clarify few doubts.
1)Is it ok to use 'very' in formal writing?
2)The words ' urgent matter' has been copied fron the question, can we use 'important work or issue'?
3)Is it ok to use ' you see' in formal writing. If no, what is are the alternative word?
4)Is it ok to use 'enough' in a formal letter?
5)'Make a trip to' sounds informal . what is the best formal variant?
6)Is ' makes me' formal enough?
thanks
