i just looked up the dm6, and damn thats a stripped down version if ive ever seen one on an electronic drumset....they dont even have midi... you would have to record with the stereo out plug....i thought all kits had at least midi, and the dm6 is new.u could just buy a new brain/module...like the alesis trigger i/o. it has midi and usb ability. well worth it.
i have been doing a lil looking up on it since I've been interested in buying it right now. for one it doesn't come with sounds it's total usb or midi. It even says in the video you have to use your computer though I've seen in specs it does contain 1 midi in and out..well one big differenece with dm5 pro with surge symbals is that it comes with a module that has sounds so
if you dont' have a pc or drum module of your own look elsewhere from this set
hey man this looks awsome for the price, anyone knows if the cymbals are very noisy?, can i get this working with ableton live and ez drummer? im thinking on selling my acoustics and get electronics man, i´d love to record with the sounds of ezdrummer and my own human feel. Latency might be a bitch though.
I'm pretty sure the cymbals are quiet. And yes they do work with those two programs. I'm thinking of doing the same thing as you actually. And if you have an interface I don't think latency will be a problem.
Can I trigger my own samples via MIDI assigning the rimshot or drum heads? Can I add additional Alesis drums? Alesis is a really cool company I have to say.
hahah ! yaa thats what i thought too... infact maybe im the first person to CONVERT real cymbals AND a transparent bucket cover to electronic ones by myself. check my vid out called biggest electronic drumkit , in my channel. safe ! and yaa,, DO NOT TOUCH !! hahaah !!
so you can still run the other one through a computer to record right? and can you still choke the symbols and have duel triggers on this drum kit without the surge symbols?
This one has dual triggers on the toms aswell as the snare. The DM5 Pro only has dual trigger on the snare.
If your going to be using software on a computer for the sounds all the time then go for this. But if your actually going to use the dm5 module, then go for the dm5. Me myself fancied the dual triggers and I personally think you can get better sounds from the likes of superior drummer.
My Alesis kit is coming in August! The only problem is that the sales rep here says "for the FIRST TIME . . . real cymbals" on a midi kit.
That is not true at all.
R.E.T. Percussion's electronic drums have had real cymbals for a long time. Hart Dynamics kits too. . . for years.
I hate it when sales people overstate things to make it seem like they have some kind of edge over the competition. All it does is make them look like dishonest, insecure braggarts.
'it says for the first time an electronic kit has real cymbals and real drum heads all together'
im aware that's not completely true .. question is - are the skins manufactured by RET or a skins brand like REMO on the RET kits?? coz if manufactured by RET then technically one could argue this guy is right.
but then again who gives a shit coz ur pretty much spot on.
This kit comes out in march and is supposed to be around $699. The cymbals are realistic but muffled with triggers attached. You can't find a cheaper kit with these capabilities.
do you need to connect to a computer for sound? just to play it i mean.

1: It´s a USB drum kit, plug it to your computer and use Ezdrumemr or superior...
2. YES
3. YES
4- YES, infinite
5. YES, but u need an amplifier
6Yes withing your software
7. Don´t know
8. Good enough for u?
HastOsth 2 years ago
It comes only with software, NOT a sound module...BFD Lite
Bass drum pad might not be large enough for double pedal
No, you can't plug in music, as the Trigger i/O doesn't deal with sound, only trigger to midi data
There are 2 TRS inputs free, so you can add an extra cymbal and tom
DM5 is like a normal electronic kit, wheras this has NO brain/module/built-in sounds...only what ever samples you have on your computer.
Any speakers will have to be connected to your computer

HI Is it possible to add one more drum pad to get 4 Toms
barzoman2 3 years ago
the standard DM5 module has extra trigger inputs for extra pads so i dont see why this one wouldnt.
SkiiWeed 2 years ago
Hi Mr SKiiWeed that is true but I didn't mean the DM5 module because I'm planing to add Extra tom to be used with VST drum not DM5 ....THNKS
barzoman2 2 years ago
uhhmmmm The Trigger I/O has 10 spaces, and the DM5 has 12, you can link a DM5 to the Trigger I/O if you wanted to though
boket5u 2 years ago
the trigger I/O indeed has 10 sockets - but they are doubles - so you actually have 20 inputs!
stratocaster539 2 years ago
do you think you could switch the heads on this kit out for mesh heads?
boket5u 2 years ago
not sure about that
stratocaster539 2 years ago
yes you can but im not 100% sure it depends on if u can plug them in

how you go from the trigger io to phones or to a mixer...??
tinaso87 4 years ago
You actually don't use phones from the IO, but you Can plug into your computer.
As for a mixer, I use the PreSonus Firebox for it's pre-amp, but mainly for it's ability to go to mixer or sound system.

I don't understand. what is the point of having real cymbals on an electronic drum kit.
Kitschead 4 years ago
The feel. They also have this dampening layer so you don't get the actual ride, hi hat or splash sounds.

right. It must make this kit pretty expensive then.
