  • back in 1966 1 was a singer in a band in morecambe we saported a lot of the top bands then , amen corner the who seachers etc, but for me the action were the best live band to come to morecambe they they had a fantastic driving sound , i loved the sound of that treble bass , sean

  • original MOD rules

  • I really love the track. It´s a kind of raw, honest garage rocking soul music. My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s/70s that did´nt "broke through". My fav. from that period is/was a band from Scandinavia called THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Really f-----g good and with a driving beat. The recordings were made 1965. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!

  • What a good time we had Reggie. I hope you are at peace wherever you are. See you in eternity. Love you. 1 year ago today. xx

  • R.I.P Reg King, the voice of the 60's.

  • No offense to the Marvelletes, but the Action's version makes them sound totally tame. This is great "rockin soul"!!!

  • Awesome cut! Wish I could have seen these guys live back in the day!

  • Waiting, watching, waiting, watching, waiting, watching. Superb throughout, but from 2:09 - 2:39 is sheer bliss ! - Love it.

  • Interview with Roger Powell on my website

  • great track by a great band

  • it's gotta be in the top 10-20 best ever make you dance beat tracks

  • Ahh, classic Motown lends itself well to Garage Rock! Great job, guys.

  • Soooo good...

  • Of course the original version is superb, but that cannot take you back to the 1960s club scene in the way that The Action track does. Almost 50 years on, this sad old Mod can't get enough of these sort of memories!

  • this is so much better than the fucking beatles .

  • Make your order now # lushfmlk.info #

  • RIP Reg King! You will be missed!

  • Epic proportions of catchiness!

  • Superb. Some where in my attic I have the ultimate Action LP, forgot what a good sound they made. Thanx for posting this up and reminding me

  • Yeah,RIP Reg is right. Never enough praise for his voice.Rod gets the plaudits when it comes to UK soul voice (and he is good) ,Marriott gets the 'dogs bollocks' honour from many (and I loved the Small Faces too!) Reg was the 'Mutt's Nuts' ,especially when it comes to Tamla and Impressions covers. Marvelettes version gorgeous, but The Action's was too! Apples and Oranges, both delicious, but different.

  • Rip Reg

  • brilliant !! this used to fill a dancefloor in early 80"s at Mod nights i used to put on !

  • This blows the marvelettes good version right outta the water!

  • Mehr geht nicht

    Its a Mod Mod world

    Starting IOW next week

  • i always liked the marvelettes take ,version as it was written for them ,like all mowtown tunes ,its the action for me,british mod spin to it,

  • What a great track! The essence of mod, for me. Craig, do you know of another recorded version of this? I seem to recall hearing a cleaner, less 'muddy' version than this (LP?) version. Was there ever a different (but almost the same) 45 single version or some other demo floating around? Thanks for the vids you post, btw.

  • La version des Actions est vraiment un cran au dessus. Quelle dynamite. Désolé pour les puristes. Le groupe est trop TOP! A ne pas oublier même dans la tombe.

  • Ace!

  • A ll mods will love this havn't heard it in years thanks for the posting

  • Would just like to say that both versions are good in there own genre and style, But The Original just beats this to the post !!!!

  • @DeeDeeMod41 My thoughts exactly

  • RIP Mike Evans

Such a sad loss to the Mod world.

  • le pied dès le matin yvon france

  • top band and excellent cover

  • NO OFFENSE, but I think the Marvelettes' 1965 version is better!!

  • why would it offend me, everyones entitled to their own opinion, love the marvelettes version as well, thanks for yer comment

  • @cc1873cc

Hi, is this the version of the LP "The Action - Ultimate Action"?! I love it.

    Cheers

  • Yeah, but this is Mod.

  • can't be...I mean listen to the drum sound and the vocals...all done in ABBEY rd as well...the Marvelettes nevr got out of Detroit...ok...minneatrollopolis

  • @christheone8773 Most people know the Marvellets version. But you cant beat a soulful male vocal.

  • Damn good times.

    Juliex outrigger bham

  • Shows that even in a cover version Power Pop beats Northern Soul hands down.

  • @theface79 meh...the detroit cobras cover blows this version away..

  • Beautiful tune, and some great memories of good times.

  • This is a great rockin' tune. Blows away just about everything put out over the last few decades thats for sure.

  • bands these days apart from a cpl, couldnt get anywhere near this kind of sound

  • Of all the 60's UK mod/freakbeat/R&B bands (The Action, The Who, The Creation, The Birds, The Attack, The Pretty Things, etc) only The Who achieved any great popularity stateside. However these bands are like finding lost treasure; it often takes a long time to be rediscovered, but with the right technology , in this case YT, you will generally be enriched finding it.

  • Definitely agree on that! Cheers!

  • Used to think this was 'it' when I was 15. Then I heard the marvelettes and my life changed direction.

  • now theres a great group the marvelettes, gonna dig them out now and have a listen

    thanks for your comment
