"They say Death catches up with all of us but I guess he caught up with Death instead." I can't remember where I read that but it was rather appropriate.
That's how story telling should be done, not drawn out/over done with drama. Straight forward. NO FILLER. I saw this and Ira the legend of zeirem when I was a kid. It got me hooked.
man that was some intense imagery! I remember seeing this once on liquid television too when I was really young. I remember seeing a lot of crazy stuff on that show. I love anime now too especially the old stuff and I recently found out about Neo Tokyo which brings me full circle back to this again. great thanks!
Man, the old stuff is something I really miss. Now its all androgynous pretty boys with oversized swords and predictably perverse humor. I miss hi-tech, beautifully drawn explosions, .....that was part of the allure for anime to me in the early 80's.

Love the violin at the end. If anyone knows if that music is available or what the title is, I would great appreciate it.

I definitely prefer the reporter's voice in this version, but the other version has the extra violence put back in.

One of the finest pieces of animation I've ever seen, next to Akira, its one of the reasons I fell in love with anime.

Thanks for posting!
I first saw this on Liquid Television.
It's called _The Running Man_ by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
There's some more information on wikipedia: Liquid_Television#Fifth_episode_2
