From what I've heard of Hazo, he has a very special place in his heart for a fast tempo, although he certainly shows that he isn't a one tempo composer in this piece, it moves pace around 3 or 4 times while still maintaining his own style. I enjoy this piece :)

My school's symphonic band is playing this. I'm the only trumpet in my hour, so I get the first parts. I play this part in my band all alone. I think it's a great piece, and it's also educational because it teaches you new rhythms that you haven't necessarily seen before. I love playing Hazo music. He writes good music that has good trumpet parts, and he makes them fun to play. The only complaint that I have is too much rests for trumpet, but that would ruin the whole soft effect thing. Hazo has wonderful music :) My school band played Kingsland Spring by him for contest. It helped bumped us up to Varsity band! And we are a 2A school.
