  • O, I just love the advert... thank you so much!

  • I saw Sonja Cristina Moon in Camden awesome band I remember the albulm had pictures on it

  • sonja kristina <3 <3 <3 <3 ok, she's not grace slick or janis, but i find her more lovely than any other. her way to sing reminds me to sandy denny, it's an english style with no vibrato. greetings from italy!

  • Mmmmm...Sonja Christina...what more is there to say :-)

  • I liked that song but even then I found the whole bands trying to be oh so serious dark windswept and interesting thing laughable!

Seeing this has merely proved I was right!

A mate of mine from Romford did her in Hainault park in 69!

  • @mrgmyers

    nah

  • Indeed, Sonja Kristina and Stewart Copeland got married. Nice couple!

    Like the music.

  • In my opinion Sonja was the greatest female singer of all time. so sexy as well.

  • Sonja Kristina ... what a beauty !

Saw them at Cardiff Castle in 1976/77

Hawkwind , The Strawbs and Status Quo !

  • I remember this song well, it was at the same time as Dutch Band Earth and Fire with Jerney Kaagman...

I love this Band too!!!....That Psychodelic era was Great, but very short lived!

  • A pity we missed them at the Stables near Milton Keynes. My wife didn't know what I was talking about. I think it might be time to get the old records out again and play them to her.

  • Released on multicloured 12 inch vinyl back in the 70's. Very Psychedelic!

  • @leoseries57 You're thinking of the album Air Conditioning.

  • @cbak12sg You are probably right - things were a little hazy back then!

  • One of my favourite Curved Air songs!! Loved the video a lot!! They did not use to have fancy video clips back then, but i find viewing such music vids of the 70's rather more enthralling than watching the contemporary crap on MTV ...

  • what a wicked video, absolutely awesome

  • Seen curved air at the City Hall Newcasle, afterwards Sonja was in the barby chicken on Percy streety........stored in th bank for a 17 yo

  • @shearershearer The Barbecue Express next to the Haymarket Hotel!

  • @Strawberry7Lynn Hey thanks for the detail....it was about 1972-73 ish!

  • I loved this chord progression.

  • She is something else.

  • fucking amazing, i luv em

  • how ever did i miss them in the 1970s i was in me teens back then only heard it on the planet rock today

  • Ah.... those crushed velvet jeans......!

  • My fantasy girl at 16 years old............. Ohh so sexy,,,,,, and a BRILLIANT band

  • Never realised she was so hot!!

  • ha that's funny

  • I just had an eargasm!

  • Beautiful song - I still have the 45 vinyl single and still play it!

I was 16 when I first heard this and I was really struck by the lines: "When she made love, she tried to find love/When she gives love, she will find love." Great words, often repeated I know, but still true. Great post, thank you for the memory!

  • Yes, that is Derek Griffiths on drums.

  • Bloody nice bird. She has the most eyes I have ever seen.

  • @LordMontystink ... funny; I only count two! ;-)-

  • ave sonja! great band, awesome bass player too

  • And a very young Eddie Jobson on piano: super

  • @BillMCA Darryl Way on piano here - Jobson joined a couple of years later.

  • The wonderful Sonja - saw the band (Sheffield Students Union) in 1976 - a mere 35 years ago!

  • ソニア・クリスティーナのヴォーカルだネ!~懐かしきカーヴド・エアー~そして、ハード・エッジの"BACK STREET LOVE"~イカシててたぜ!!

  • Well I was 10 years old then.. and the memory of the 'Chorus' in this song takes me as High now, as it did then!

  • Remember her in concert at Leeds Polytechnic, September 1972 when I was 18! What fantastic days. Velvet loon pants too, what a girl

  • Remember her in concert at Leeds Polytechnic, September 1972 when I was 18! What fantastic days.

  • A definite lost classic.

That, and can you imagine if Conan, Letterman or Jimmy Fallon tried video styles like this today?

  • Looking forward to seeing them at High voltage in London next week. :-)

  • I saw Curved Air in Newcastle (City Hall) as a support band to Black Sabbath! It was 1971, I think, but I could be a year out either way. Some gig. Also saw Curved Air as main band the following year at the Mayfair (Newcastle). Great times for music.

  • My first ever Concert was Curved Air-.Royal Festival Hall, London-1972.

    Great memories:)

  • ANOTHER OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS FROM SUMMER OF 1971 I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT WHEN THEY PERFORMED AT THE 1972 READING FESTIVALT (WERE THE TOP ACT OF THE NIGHT) BUT WERE LATE COMING ON STAGE - AND HAD TO LEAVE AT MIDNIGHT TO GET A LIFT HOME - THE 2D TIME (AT ANOTHER VENUE) SURPRISE! SURPRISE! THEY DIDNT TURN UPY cANT REMEMBER WHAT THE REASON. JUST SEEMS I WASNT MEANT TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT

  • Brought this when it came out and still have it!

  • Saw them in Swansea, Sonja was soooooo hot!

  • Sonja was on my bedroom wall for many a month in the early 70's. Almost saw the band at the Buxton Pop Festival in 1974 but it was too cold and wet for them.

  • still a great production

  • Why im not born 55 years befors!!!!!

  • I remember this - it now sounds like Atomic Rooster meets Abba cool though!

  • Superb !! Classis 70s !!

  • Just wondering. There weren't many, if any prog rock bands with female vocalists/frontpersons. Is there any logic there? Why didn't they hit it big?

  • I saw Curved Air performing at the Kursaal in Southend-on-Sea in 1972. They were excellent.

  • Sonjia so beautiful!!!!!! excellent band, a classic rock forever!!!!!!!!!!love'em!!!!!!

  • @zappatx The drummer is the late Barry de Souza, who filled in for a few months while Pilkington-Miksa was ill. He did a lot of session work in the 70s.

  • I love the clear guitar, Keith played one for a while, great amazing tone...hard to believe a slab of plexiglass could have such great tone&sustain--

  • I love the clear guitar, Keith played one for a while, great amazing tone...

  • Man that drummer is really awesome. plays kind of like Bruford. What's his name??

  • @zappatx i think its Florian Pilkington-Miksa

  • the time of women singing!!

  • Saw them live in Bradford in the 70's - even did their stage lighting once

  • Missing Phantasmagoria. There used to be something here ...

  • Forgotten all about this track. Loved it then, and love it now.

  • cheryl cole not in the 1 2 3 of this talent

  • I believe Curved Air had some Mellotron tunes although I can't seem to find them now...

    Anyone know these tracks?

  • @zappatx Check the track I uploaded: Elfin Boy

  • I saw them on Top of the Pops in 1971 when I was 6 years old - it made a big enough impact on me then for me to remember it now.

  • Wonderful

  • It was a great time and they were a great band.

  • What a superb group they were! I remember seeing them in Nelson around 1975 and was knocked out by both Sonja's vocals and Darryl's violin playing. Vastly underrated.

  • saw them live in redcar ,(coatham bowl) when i had my lambretta GT 200, back in the 70s, WOW she was so powerfull, im 58 now and still love em, i even have back street as my ring tone, lol,

  • Francis Monkman on keyboards wrote the music for Granada TV's football coverage in the 1970s = Kick Off and Kick Off Match etc.

  • wow, great sound. i think i just saw my dream girl 41 years later !

  • sound good, wow this my first time hearing about this group

  • One of the most underappreciated groups of all time!

  • I like it now, and I'm just sixteen.

  • It was my favourite song in a school days and I still like it.

  • where's your smile today?... try to see.. she didn't mean, to make you feel sooo sad...

  • MUITO LEGAL VER UMA MULHER QUEBRANDO O TABOO MACHISTA QUE SÓ MACHO PODE FAZER ROCK

  • She's got a sexy voice.

  • I too was at the 'no show' at the Buxton Festival in 72, everything that roysam says (Comment below) is true

  • Vastly underated. Brings back great memories. Good post!

  • Was nineteen, and it was one of my favs in that year.... Hear it again and again and again. An amazing song for me!

  • Saw them, front row, in 1971. Opened for The Doors, after Morrison died that year. Loved these guys! Bought all their albums after that show!

  • Amazing tune, its just a pity that they refused to come on stage at the Buxton Festival in 72...they said it was too cold...I was there in the crowd...it was minus 5 degrees C but Uriah Heep, Steppenwolf, Family and a host of other great bands blasted our senses into oblivion and the cold became of no consequence...

  • @Roynsam ah, but to be fair to Curved Air, this was nearly 40 years before Carlos Tevez invented the snood :-)

Fab tune, cool graphics from the Beat Club boys and girls.

  • I always thought the drummer was the husband of the singer - Stewart Copeland, later of The Police. Wizards drummer was Charlie Grima. I last saw him playing congas in a duo in The Kings Head Islington with Wizards keyboard player, Bob Brady. They used to do an acoustic Wizard reunion at Xmas. Charlie also appeared on TV a lot, in things like The Bill.

  • Love this. Saw them live at Leeds Town hall when i was in my teenage years (now 54) loved them then. Made my spine tingle

  • this is an absolutely cracking song! why have I never heard of them? I am heartily ashamed of myself!

  • @whitbywailer you have a lot of catching up to do, now start off with a search for "Marie Antoinette" by curved air on You Tube.

This record is another 5 star gem.

  • Saw them at the Robin Bilston, last night, absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!

  • @spaztsworth i'll second that-I was at Bilston too :-)

  • They were brilliant live, just wonderful stuff even after so long.

  • Where's your smile today?

  • Did the drummer end up in Wizzard????

  • @arken350 The drummer is session player Barry de Souza he played with Jeff Beck and Kate Bush

  • I like her voice. I like this band. It´s perfect.

  • Drummer at 0:45 is SO kick ass!

Brilliant song by a fantastic band, with a beautiful singer. :D

  • Oh! Sonja simplesmente Linda....

  • Great 70's band great singer i love Sonja xxxxx

  • It still sounds great ! Even after all these years !!!

  • Heard they are touring again they are at the brook southampton 7 oct hope it's not bad but will go just to see Sonja again !!!!

  • Since I was a child....

  • Talented voice and looks, that was Sonia Kristina.

  • Aye, 15 years old, jumpers for goalposts,

    Sonja in my dreams

  • wow Her voice is really unique..there was magic around her thick thighs..yes I know

  • Lucky enough to see Sonja grace Devizes Corn Exchange stage several times in the early 70's - and Darryl with his see-through electric violin - magic stuff.

  • Great - a little bit of 70's essential - "where's your smile today?' - brilliant.

  • I have been searching for years for this song....it was on the edge of my memory as a kid. I just love it, it's so dark! I hear they have reformed now and will be at Glastonbury

  • I think they probably were a bit of a one-hit wonder. But there's nothing wrong with that. Many combinations of great musicians back then were pretty short-lived. Curved Air went on longer, but when I saw them in 1975, their other material had none of the impact of this piece. It was special back then.

  • @AndyBloodyMorley I always considered them an album band. If only they had met up with Brian Eno. I don't think they realized their full potential. They never captured on vinyl what they were capable of doing live.

  • @Steveco - Warm Jets period Eno? This version of the band?

Uh.....I have to go change my pants.......

  • @Steveco Damn, I can only imagine the results of Curved Air produced by Eno. Sir, you have created an anomaly in space and time. It must be so!

  • she should be on the back of my ducati !....................... god made woman the right shape to fit the pillion seat in those days !

  • I try to explain to my 19 year old son why this was soo important, it was just so different at the time

  • Sonia Christina

  • this is awesome

  • Incredible prog rock band and song!

  • And she looks and sounds just as good today!

  • great prog rock band. check out It happened today & Vivaldi

  • I think you're arguing over nonsense. Thet were a signifant band in their time, certainly NOT mainstream pop, contentious vocal material (have you actually listened to lyrics and understood them in their recent historic context - this was outrageous stuff)? You had to be there - otherwise, move on?

  • your missing the point music.

  • Britains finest!!!

  • forgot one thing - this band is not from the netherlands. where you got that from?

  • Dead right. Sonja Kristina comes from Brentwood in Essex!

  • "one hit wonder" is a primitive, commercial-oriented term, you can´t put a prog band into that!

  • one hit wonder... come on man. curved air were no pop band, they made non-commercial music.

  • @AcidDroog

What's that got to do with it?

    If they had just 1 hit..they are 1 hit wonders..End Of !
