  • If you need to deface a religious site in order to feel "empowered" then I am truly sorry for you.

  • yeah half u people say this just cause it is a non christian, jewish, muslim, etc site if people wanted to do this exact same thing to any other site non pagan people would be crying foul all over the religious community

  • HOW ABOUT WE GO AND HAVE A PARTY IN THE SIXTEEN CHAPEL? THEN HOW ABOUT WE TAKE A MACHINE GUN AND SHOOT DOWN MICHAELANGELO'S ART IN THE CHAPEL? I mean it's only a building that happens to have artwork in it. STAY OFF OF OUR SACRED GROUNDS BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stupid bitches

  • Damaging this unique fragile site for a cheap TV gimmick, shows what mindless sorts work in parts of the media, they call the desecration of holy ground, damaging a bit of grass, I recall the outcry some years ago when Anti-Apartheid demonstrators were suspected of damaging a cricket pitch before a visit by South Africa, the media were up in arms calling it vandalism and criminal damage. So well done to those Druids and others for bringing this act of vandalism to the worlds attention

  • "our heritage is not a playground for the media" - enough said ;-j

  • "our heritage is not a playground for the media"- enough said.

  • i was there on the days that we filmed! we did no damange to the site what people have to think of is it has been there for years a load of women walking around on it for two days wnt hurt it! its grass and mud its not anything imporntant. we did no damange and newell fisher needs to think of what he says before he goes shouting his mouth off he was my teacher just before this happend and what him and other pagans were saying was nasty horrible names that you dont call people

  • @maria2966

Oh dear. Still so much ignorance. First of all: "not anything imporntant" (sic)...where exactly did you obtain your archaeological qualification?

Secondly, as I think I made VERY clear at the time, when members of your dance school attempted to slander me and I had to threaten legal action, the men who abused you all were NOTHING to do with the group I was with and I was not present when they did.

  • right i was there that day i went up on the long man we did no damange what u people have got to remember its been there years and the fact of the matter is, the pagans that prtested were calling us horrible nmes that you dont call other people one of those is newell fisher who was my teacher at the time from my secondary school so you should know better we did no damange so just shut up about it

  • Historical (and to some people sacred), charming, BEAUTIFUL, life-affirming site that we can all call part of our heritage

    VERSUS

a couple of inconsequential, crappy, gimmiky, self-loving ITV "personalities".

Girls, please don't do this "for the people of Britain". We hate you for it.

  • I've been a druid for nigh on 20 years, our ancestors would be there egging them on, so please, you freemason "druids" chill out.

  • How do you know? Meanwhile it is our heritage and is sensitive to damage.

  • It discusted me to see this treatment of our heritage but thank you for making this video public, people need to know what they are desecrating.

  • When I saw this on television, I thought they were copying the long man. Apparently not.

  • what a lot of shite! fuck heritage! pagan shmagan!!

    oan yersel trinny woodall!

i would personally dig up that stupid gay field and set it on fire just to have a feel of her beautiful delicate tiny paps!!

  • pagan shmagan!!

    get it up yis!

oan yersel trinny woodall!! hot bird like!!

i would dig up and piss on the whole field just for a feel of trinnys tiny paps!!

  • Sad pathetic people, its just grass, every bit of land is in someway has history but if we perserved them all where would we buy our rubber ducks.

  • Okay, so let's turn St. Pauls into a Tesco.

  • Nah would rather just turn that into something more useful like a hospital or a school.

  • Or......a tourist destination?

  • the result of schools are fools like you my good man!

  • so sad that they were allowed to do this, im glad that people went to protest. If a show went to the vatican or some christian holy site and wanted to do something for a show to a holy place/icon of the christians you could be certain that they would sue them, damned silly people.

  • erm its grass they must have been told the were allowed n really who cares they were doin charity

  • "doin charity"??

Try some research before you comment.

  • rrrmg you can miss type letters on the computer just cause you make sure every letter and punctuation is perfect ^o)

  • Trinny and Susannah seem to have no respect for Heritage sites. It's not JUST a field. If it was, no-one would care. There is far more at stake here than a couple of wenches talking people into laying down on a chalk figure or showing up dressed in white making the long-man into a cross-dresser of sorts (by giving him breasts and a dress-shape) The chalk sites are in danger of deteriorating - not just the grass but the chalm AND archaeology underneath as well. Show some RESPECT!

  • I am appalled disgusted and horrified that this was allowed to happen and that's just from a historical sense but also as a pagan it is so disrespectful. In all seriousness if this was an image of Jesus would it have been allowed?

  • A bit away from the issue, what what music is this?

  • how could you be so sad to make a video about slight damage to some grass!!!

  • How could you be so ignorant as to make a comment referring to this site as "some grass"?

Seriously....do some research before you type next time.

  • Arg, if only I could have helped with that protest that day. This was quite disrespectful.

  • wow....who cares about a yard? stupid.

  • About a what?

  • its a sacred place not a yard. people have no respect or knowledge these days.

  • American? stupid.

  • How sad that so many women would be interested in clambering about on a site of such historical interest and meaning with so little respect for eachother.

My sympathies to the pagans who felt so betrayed.

The behaviour of the people taking part in the disfigurement of the chalk artefact was low, very very low.

  • omg

yer it might be an 'famous site' thing but the grass damage is just bloody stupid IT WILL GROW BACK.

Also they wanted to show women about the different shapes that woman have and how to dress them.

So why is anyone having a go becuase they left the site how it was. it might have a bit of grass demage but it will grow back.

The long man of ...... whereever it is, is in a field and someone said that they could do it.

    ITS NOT THE PROTESTORS FIELD

    for gods sake

    just leave it at that.

  • Yet funnily enough this piece of ground is at near enouh a 45o angle. so if it eroded suffienctly it may well grow back ,but what about what lay underneath?

And who said it was the protestor's "field"(interesting word). What it is is part of our heritage. As such it is a non-renewable resource. You damage it, it stays damaged.

  • totally with you on this one i dont see wat all the fuss is about? did anyone even see the show?

  • Why are Pagans always ridiculed in this way. They have a really good religion.

  • Its a few people having some fun on a bit of grass. they are not exactly turning it over with garden forks or driving a plough through it. If these Do-Gooders ever got control we wouldn't even be allowed to break wind.Eco this & Eco that. Get off & Get a life, Cripes

  • "Get off" is an ironic choice of words in this context, don't you think?

And descibing it as "a bit of grass" displays a complete ignorance of the nature of this site.

  • ITS A BIT OF GRASS OK ! If it was an historic building I could understand the point but it is basically unused land & an englishman has been allowed to walk on engLAND for all time.

For Cripes Sake, Its Turf (a Propogated Weed) & regenerates itself in a matter of days. Get a Life

  • Tell me...what is your understanding of the phrase "archaeological site"?

  • Oh...and "soil erosion"?

  • yeh and while were at it lets build a night club in the center of stonehenge! this place is beutiful to me, and sacred to some pagans, and i understand why!

  • obviously you have no sense of your own culture or respect for heritage. it is sad that a Canadian has more appresiation for England than an englishman.

  • its a hill, sitting it and maybe hurting the grass isnt the end of the world yeah its sacred or what ever but is it really nesseccary to get so worked up, and before you say "you wouldnt say that if it was jesus or buddah" or somthing i would like to say that religions are mainly bollocks there are much worse things going on in the world, liek that dick mugabbe so chill out and admire the boobs or something

P.S. all hate mail will vanalise this sacred comment and the gods will smite all senders

  • lol this show just came out in aus and that episode is the 3rd one we've seen so far... one thing though for all religions and their sacred areas they should have rules put in to say only Archaeologists can walk on this place and a vote by the specific religious group in agreement or disagreement of the rules/regulations that have been set for their historical item

  • I can not believe in this day an age there is any excuse for desecrating or not showing respect for others religious and cultural areas of significance. How ignorant our race has become.

  • It is very disrespectful, This site has been preserved and maintained over the years and these women just treat it like a big day out to trample it and lie alover it!

  • the way they treated the Druid order present trying to keep the site safe. what a bunch of irreverent dumbasses

  • but ITS NOT JUST YOUR HILL its on the land for eveyones to share and enjoy [i know that you cant just let everyone trample on it but they got permission and did they best to not damage the ground].by making this vid you have not changed what they've done nor can you all you have done is starting an argument, move on

  • No they did NOT get the necessary permission. they should have obtained Consent from English Heritage for what they did, which they did not do. They did not descibe all their activities accurately and the Secretary of State has asked EH to make this clear to ITV.

No one is saying it is THEIR hill. All we are saying is there was a failure of custodianship, which has been apologised for by the owners, with whom, incidentally, we are now working to help ensure the future of the Long Man.

  • sorry that this show upset many, im in to historical ect as many of you that have commented. I BLEIVE that the site of course needs to be treated with respect but this 'experment' was more than just another jumped up media thing.

  • How do you mean? What was it?

  • Incidentally, can I ask what you mean by "experiment"?

  • Religious or not, this was a dreadful act of vandalism. Imagine putting boobs on Jesus, or Mohammed. Imagine the riot that would cause! So don't put boobs on the Long Man - 16th century, ancient monument or 'concrete blocks' he should be honoured and not abused. I have heard of people who use the Long Man to help couples concieve, is this how we repay him?

  • What song is this?

  • Pax Deorum by Enya. I'm happy to help generate sales of it via this video! :-)

  • Thanks! Peace of the gods. I am glad my Latin class isn't going to waste! LOL.

  • Part of a letter from Margaret Hodge, Minister of Culture, to my MP:

"I understand that the production team involved in the making of the programme have already been informed that they should have obtained prior Scheduled Monument Consent. However, I agree that all concerned should be left in no doubt about their responsibilities in respect of our archaeological heritage. I have therefore asked English Heritage to write to ITV to help avoid a repetition of these events in the future."

  • i am not religous at all but i can respect other peoples opinions. this, however is just stupid. there is history everywhere but does that get respected in say landfill sites?! there are so many more important issues out there, concentrate on the living, not the dead! who cares about a few ancient bones when we in this life are letting people die every day to add to history. stop being so petty.

  • Of course there are bigger causes, but is this site not worthy of the attention of a few people? How does caring about it reduce our ability to support other causes?

You use of the word "petty" is a judgement. I'm sure there are things you care about that others don't. Are you "petty" to do so?

  • My friend was one of the women volunteers involved in the 'reshaping' of the longman for the ITV filming. Her dance school was approached by the tv company and volunteers were asked for, they weren't really told what they'd be doing until they got there. Just wanted to let people know that the people who were volunteering for ITV that day aren't really to blame, so if anyone's angry about this - just be angry towards ITV!

  • fizzypop:

Thanks for your comments. I absolutely accept what you say. The participants had the site misrepresented to them completely by ITV and our problem is not with them (Though one did try to bad-mouth me personally in a way that reached my work-place!).

My understanding is they were told the Long Man is "just concrete blocks" and that they were not to take leaflets from protestors, though two did.

Please pass this on to your friend.

  • I think those arseholes were just trying to piss off the pagans.I'm a Christian albeit more open mided than many of them.Have some respect for other religions you tossers!

  • I'm not a pagan so the site holds no religious significance to me, however, i am getting increasingly angered by the actions of TV crews and the attitude of television programmes in trampling over peoples beliefs. I am also interested in archaeology and believe this was an appalling thing to do. The Media as a whole seem to be heading down the pan, I just hope they don't take the rest of us with them

  • The media have excelled themselves this summer. We also have the homer simpson figure painted by the cerne Abbas giant. They used the wrong kind of paint and is still there as a consequence. Now a mmber of Fathers 4 Justice has defaced the figure itself with purple paint. I don't see a coincidence there. If people in authority are seen to encourage stunts then idiots will surely follow.

  • I heard about the Homer image, and thought it was all in good fun, until I heard where they put it. I also heard about the purple pain job, which seems just as brainless. Disregarding whether the sites have a personal religious significance, they are part of the country's heritage and should be properly protected and respected.

  • Its a stupid way to treat national treasures.

Whether they are Pagan or not, they are part of the country heritage. The Media sucks!

  • what did this have to do with trinny and susannah ?

  • They were filming the Long Man being turned into a "Long Woman" by having all the women lie on the figure to give it breasts etc.

According to T and S this was meant to "empower" women.

  • Were the production crew told what they could and couldn't do at the site?

  • Yes they were. They were told not to go on the blocks/on the figure. how they interpreted this is open to question, but shouldn't have been.

As for the sticks, we believe no indiction they were going to do this was given to the owners.

  • That's so disrespectful. The media can be extraordinarily arrogant, and will do whatever they want to do if they think they can get away with it. Presumably complaints were made to everybody involved subsequently - the production company, T and S, anybody else

  • Complaints were made and continue to be made. They've been reported to English Heritage for not having got permission for what legally seems to amount to "works" on a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

OFCOM will be next if any of the footage is broadcast.

  • I totally agree with your sentiments. TV companies seem to be able to get away with whatever they like these days.

What was the programme supposed to be about?

  • Hi Andy!

It was supposed to be "empowering women" apparently. Yet on the day of filming they were told not to take our leaflets and that the Long Man is "just concrete bocks". Empowerment through lack of knowledge. Hmmm...
