It's amazing to see the emotion of the performers during this amazing piece. This is truly the power of the Savior in peoples lives coming forth. He is forever the Rock and Salvation of all humanity. This beautiful music is a testimony to that fact.
As an Orthodox Christian I do like this beautiful music and singing very much, I just wish more Mormons would be kinder and more respectful towards Orthodox Christians. I don't get why so many Mormons hate the Orthodox Church so much. I am stunned at the fouled mouth and horrid comments I have seen on Orthodox youtube videos made by Mormons. People are nice and respectful towards your religion, we just ask that you do the same for us. God bless!!

I have visited a Greek Orthodox Church in my town many times. I have great respect for your faith. If I see criticisms, I'll stand up for you.

I responded to him saying that we do not worship a "3-headed god" and then he continued throwing a bunch more insults and stuff, saying our leaders were evil. Another guy by the username "M424Filmcast" said similar things but he wasn't as bad as "imtherealthing." That's what I saw.

People, this music is suppose to spread love. My uncle committed suicide and this was played at his funeral and he was not Mormon (which i am) but it did not matter. God is all that is good. That should be all that matters. The gospel lifts my spirit in the most amazing ways, especially through this song!

The LDS make great music of praise, but very wrong theology. God did not start out as a man and work His way up to divinity. Jesus was not the brother of Lucifer. We don't get our own planets or star systems if we do well. We are saved only by faith in the grace of God through the atonement of His son Jesus Christ. Mormons are typically wonderful, well-meaning and pius people, just misled.

This song's lyrics is set to the tune of "Fantasia on Nettelton" which is an old New England Folk Hymn. I played the song in a flute trio for Solo and Ensemble back during my middle school years. Back then, the song had no real meaning to me other than the fact that I was captivated by it's beauty while playing it. Now that I'm a Mormon, it has so much a deeper meaning after getting acquainted with this counterpart. It's by far my favorite song to play on flute! <3

I have felt His love overwhelm me as I have asked in faith for my family to be protected 12 time zones away. I have felt His reassurance while under rocket, mortar, and small arms fire. I have watched this thread for ages but you have it right on the nail. Whatever people's beliefs, it is a fabulous and luxurious arrangement performed beautifully. Im just so disappointed some cant just enjoy it as it is. I can, and Im athiest; but its music and lyrics beautifully performed, whatever your beliefs.
Anything can sound bad when it's taken out of context. I know that the Jesus spoken of in the new testament lives today and is (not was) The Son of God and is The Eternal Father. I looked up this song because it helps me feel gratitude for his atoning sacrifice. And I am what you call a Mormon. If any of that surprises you then I assure you that you have been taught our beliefs out of context.

We, with me being a Latter-day Saint, believe that Jesus is the only begotten son of God and we believe that we are God's children, but there is not a doubt in my mind that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God and I have believed firmly in that from the very beginning.

In your Bible you will also read that Jesus is the Son of God. So, since both Lucifer and Jesus were sons of God, having the same Father and creator, well, then that must mean that Lucifer and Jesus are, wait for it, wait for it . . .
@rippinsteo the angels, as well as Christians now, are referred to as the Sons of God in that exact same sense. So if that theology is correct, and its meant to be a literal interpretation, then you saying that you believe Jesus is the Son of God is no different than saying you believe that you are the Son of God. Saying they are brothers portrays them as equals, and the Bible says that Jesus was God in the Beginning, before Lucifer even existed. It takes away from the divinity of Christ.

I'm saddened by arguments for/against anyone's beliefs. Religion is a private matter. Please, all, do not try and convince others about what YOU think is best. God's presence is all around us regardless of your personal perceptions. This music is proof that God is good. How else can you explain such utter beauty. @MrHamncheez Though of course it's gorgeous either way (one of my absolute favorite hymns, and I like a lot of hymns) I have to say I slightly prefer the faster tempo of the Tabernacle Choir's rendition. (I wouldn't want to call either one "worse" than the other, because that implies that one of them is "not good".) But I've listened to a number of arrangements of this song and this is definitely my favorite one, whichever tempo it is sung at.

So I assume you're questioning the belief that some might have that a man is comprised of body and a spirit, a spirit that is a creation, or a child, of God. If God, in this usage, equates to Jesus himself, then that means Jesus created his own spirit. It starts to sound like circular reasoning then. I like the idea that Jesus really did pray to and receive instruction from His father, a father (of all spirits) in heaven

This video is the best that I have ever viewed. You could make the statement that these singers are very talented and they certainly are except it is more than that only by and through the spirit can you fully appreciate the magnitude of this performance. The choirs of the LDS Church magnify their talents and they recognize where their talents come from, from a source bigger than themselves God the Father Himself . The combination of talent and Spirit always results in great performances.
Love to watch this video and see the emotion, love, passion on the faces of these young people. You can see testimonies grow as they listen to the words and understand them.

@N0vakDj Thank you :) Yeah there was this really nasty guy by the username "imtherealthing" who came out of nowhere and started attacking Orthodoxy saying we are going to hell and that we worship a 3-headed god. I responded to him saying that we do not worship a "3-headed god" and then he continued throwing a bunch more insults and stuff, saying our leaders were evil. Another guy by the username "M424Filmcast" said similar things but he wasn't as bad as "imtherealthing." That's what I saw.

Mormons are Christian because we believe in the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon as the word of God. If your definition of Christian only includes the Bible, that's where we part ways. The Book of Mormon is another testimony of Jesus Christ, a companion to the Holy Bible.
To only read the Bible, and not the Book of Mormon, is to only read part of the word of God.

The LDS make great music of praise, but very wrong theology. God did not start out as a man and work His way up to divinity. Jesus was not the brother of Lucifer. We don't get our own planets or star systems if we do well. We are saved only by faith in the grace of God through the atonement of His son Jesus Christ. This song's lyrics is set to the tune of "Fantasia on Nettelton" which is an old New England Folk Hymn. I played the song in a flute trio for Solo and Ensemble back during my middle school years. Back then, the song had no real meaning to me other than the fact that I was captivated by it's beauty while playing it. Now that I'm a Mormon, it has so much a deeper meaning after getting acquainted with this counterpart. It's by far my favorite song to play on flute! <3

Beautiful song; one of those I listened to on 2 combat deployments which helped me feel the love of the Savior. Anything can sound bad when it's taken out of context. I know that the Jesus spoken of in the new testament lives today and is (not was) The Son of God and is The Eternal Father. I looked up this song because it helps me feel gratitude for his atoning sacrifice. And I am what you call a Mormon. If any of that surprises you then I assure you that you have been taught our beliefs out of context.
Feel the passion of this choir. Could this come from people who do not rely on their Redeemer?

In your Bible you will also read that Jesus is the Son of God. So, since both Lucifer and Jesus were sons of God, having the same Father and creator, well, then that must mean that Lucifer and Jesus are, wait for it, wait for it . . .

@rippinsteo the angels, as well as Christians now, are referred to as the Sons of God in that exact same sense. So if that theology is correct, and its meant to be a literal interpretation, then you saying that you believe Jesus is the Son of God is no different than saying you believe that you are the Son of God. Saying they are brothers portrays them as equals, and the Bible says that Jesus was God in the Beginning, before Lucifer even existed. It takes away from the divinity of Christ.

@MrHamncheez Though of course it's gorgeous either way (one of my absolute favorite hymns, and I like a lot of hymns) I have to say I slightly prefer the faster tempo of the Tabernacle Choir's rendition. (I wouldn't want to call either one "worse" than the other, because that implies that one of them is "not good".) But I've listened to a number of arrangements of this song and this is definitely my favorite one, whichever tempo it is sung at.

So I assume you're questioning the belief that some might have that a man is comprised of body and a spirit, a spirit that is a creation, or a child, of God. If God, in this usage, equates to Jesus himself, then that means Jesus created his own spirit. It starts to sound like circular reasoning then. I like the idea that Jesus really did pray to and receive instruction from His father, a father (of all spirits) in heaven

Stunning! If you can't feel God's love emanating from the amazing Mormon people through their talent, selfless generosity, service to the suffering and lifting of the least of His children... what can be said. I feel a sorrow of loss for those who speak poorly of them.

@bdplist: Please, They must be worship together to have a good effect.
Jesus Christ does the will of this father, so you can't worship him only.
Heavenly Father leaves the Judging to his son, so you can't worship him only.
The Holy Ghost informs us of truth, so you can't worship him only either.
I suppose this is allot like choosing what to use in a Car: The steering wheel, The Brake, The Gas, The mirrors, or the shift. Only together can they be use, or God worshiped.

@bcsviewer1 We do not believe in the same Jesus. You believe in a different person and even though you call him Jesus, he is not the real Jesus. Therefore you cannot be a follower of the true Jesus Christ. My Jesus is NOT the brother of Lucifer or all spirits born in heaven in a premortal existence. The True Jesus is not the literal son of god and his goddess wife. Is not one of 3 gods in the godhead. Was always spirit from eternity. Atoned for sin on the cross alone.

Jesus also said that his father sent a comforter in Christs Name will teach them all things and bring all things to their remembrance. John 14: 26 King James Version. These are aspects of his Earthly existance. How about before or after?
How do you Interpret Revelations 12 :3,4,7-11, Luke 24, or John 20 in the King James version of the Bible?

Otherwise all I can see is a good blood sucking lawyer that manipulates your words into whatever they want everyone else to believe...

@bdplist Suppose I did send you a You Tube message with scriptures as to how I know the Church to be true. Is your goal to to find the truth, or bash Mormons? If the latter is true, why should I waste my time? Could you accept the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, the primitive church, restored in its fullness, or is your mind made up? You should live the LDS article of faith: "We claim the privilege of worshiping the Almighty God . . . dictates of our own conscious . . . and allow all the same.

@bdplist Your words cause me no trouble. I have survived two bouts of cancer, decompression sickness, and high altitude cerebral edema. I have lived with the very real possibility of death, I have also read my share of anti-Mormon literature (you quote from The Godmakers). I have studied, pondered, prayed, thought, and had the Spirit witness to me that the LDS church is true. I am a successful man, not the least bit troubled by an anti-Mormon on You Tube who can't enjoy a beautiful song.

For me to believe that you have a set of Journal of Discourses and actually study them is a bit of a stretch, since I have seen those quotes in anti-Mormon literature. @bdplist Church Bashing: That was the way the teaching had to be done at that time. Too few people, even heard the basic beliefs and was speaking against it.
Now McConkies' language speaks of the terrible things that the Catholic Church did: One-Hundred year war against Muslims, Burning people for experimenting because of bewitchments, and accepting massive changes to doctrine in a Church who's name means unchanging. If a tree is dead, then all broken off branches must be dead, too.

This video is the best that I have ever viewed. You could make the statement that these singers are very talented and they certainly are except it is more than that only by and through the spirit can you fully appreciate the magnitude of this performance. The choirs of the LDS Church magnify their talents and they recognize where their talents come from, from a source bigger than themselves God the Father Himself . The combination of talent and Spirit always results in great performances.
