  • 6:40 *ears go up* I'm sorry... sonic hedgehog? ...

  • hmm interesting! i see "evolution" at microscopic level!

  • any1 know what they hell shes saying?

  • Thanks for posting this video. Lots of good information.

  • This really broke down the cells and gave me a better understanding of how they work. Great video!

  • I <3 biLOLogy

  • Great video!

  • So if i cut my dick in half (6 inch's) and put a good 3 inch's of stem cells in between, i can have a 9 inch dick? AWESOME lol

  • @urahara300 might as well get a penis augmentation

  • cool stuff, informative and easy to follow. visit lifecellinternational

  • excellent and lucidly presented. merci madamme.

  • Im thinking that stemcells may eventually even repair cryonics patients

  • WHAT AM I HUGGING? REPLY!

  • @UnknownDistraction

Adult stem cells can now be used. Now you no longer have to worry over some one's else unborn child.

  • @SgtThom Adult cells are whats referred to as 'somatic' they are not pluripotent... in fact theoretically you could use cells from any stage of life including after death.

Each type of stem cell (there are 5 main types) have differing uses. ES cells (embryonic cells) are actually being replaced by iPS cells... which is where ES cells are given an genetic instruction to produce extra cells for research.

It hasn't quelled the religious nuts, who have no clue why they object at this point.

  • Thank you for this! I was having such a hard time visualizing these concepts. Great video.

  • ไม่รู้เรื่อง

  • In 6:43, it sounds as if the speaker is talking about Sonic the Hedgehog

  • wtf is going on below me? fucking retards

  • stop arguing please..stick to relevant subjects and discussions..

Arguing about faith is a lose lose battle..

  • this is gross. it should be illegal, i dont want someone stabbin' my sperm

    ...just trooooollin :D

  • It's very smart your idea!. But I ask you?. How often fertility clinics are on fire?. The rescue of a children it's easier than an tank whith liquid nitrogen with embryos, only. Is a reason for kill embryos for you?. Don't forget you come from of an embryo. It's not possible one human life without an step like embryo, feto, newborn, child, teenagers, adult, old. The life is an continuity of steps, but the main is that human life is the same in each one of this steps, and there are alternatives!

  • @yotvideo

    Great response :)

  • I had shave, I rubbed some stems cells on the bold skin, days later the hair was back to how it was, if that is science, i dont know what

  • excellent share..thank you.

    Toitpotency !

  • This proves that some day cryonics will have been proven correct. People once frozen can have every tissue and cell regenerated using techniques similar to clonning and stem cell regeneration. They laughed at the idea of clonning and now they laugh at cryonics but this just show how shallow minded the masses are!

  • I dont understand anything...

  • I bet most people couldn't tell the difference from a human embryo and another primate embryo.

  • i read all day i love biology

  • at the end of the video is the pile of semi-developed stem cells beating?

  • If stem cell research is murder then I commit genocide when I scratch my arm or cut my hair. Or would that be mass suicide?

  • I am not pro dettol or against any SINGAPORE aggressive company that made WALCH ] I dilute 2 capful of WALCH (singapore made, bought in my supermarket here) , into a 500 ml jar, i.e. dilute about 200 to 300 times already, put my FEW hair comb into it, then most of the comb got paint dissolved, it got some WHITE LAYER, i.e. all the paint come off NO WONDER WHY -- walch is toxic to hair -- skin >> SCALP skin

  • A universal benefit reported by every patient has been the recovery of bladder control. Most MS patients have various bladder control symptoms that include urinary urgency, incontinence, nocturia, or urinary hesitancy as a result of the disruption of electrical impulses from the brain to the nerves and muscles that are involved in emptying the bladder (pudenal nerve, urethral sphincter, detrusor muscle). Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information.

  • thee cell that is responsible for evolution.

  • For everyone that is arguing with one another, ever heard of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells? Google it, they are the answer.

  • stop crying about science and give these guys your babies....

  • @xmuzzyx20 hIPS cells don't require babies or embryos etc. They are the result of an inducement in regular ES cells to produce extra pluripotent cells.....

oddly people still object for some unknown reason.

I often wonder if they would be protest so much when diagnosed with leukemia..and offered a genetic therapy...

  • thank goodness for this video.

  • After seeing this video i dont see a convincing statement against stem cell reasearch.

Cloning, Stem Cells and the Value of Life trailer

  • The fact that we can create useful hESC lines from embryos that can NEVER give rise to a human being (because they contain a fatal chromosomal trisomy) means that it is perfectly ethical to use these otherwise useless blastocysts for the betterment of mankind.

As the father of a bone marrow donor I think about how many lives have lost due to Bush's misguided (but perhaps well meaning) policies.

    Let's move forward.

  • Why do I bother going to lectures? This taught me the topic better in less than 10 minutes than my lecturer did in 120.

  • I agree with you a very clearly well presented outline of stem cells.

More here of the health benefits:

  • great lighting on the 3d

  • I would just like to know what your resources are... Where did you get this video from?..

  • Comment removed

  • guess what there are stemcells in lyposuction fat, end of debate

  • I'm not taking either sides, pro life people just don't want babies to die, but Scientist want to find out ways to advance the human knowledge. This is what i think, sacrificing 1 save 1,000 more. In other words sacrifice 1 life would cure 1,000s more. So their are Pros and cons about this but either way this is going to change the world.

  • please to Summary

i can't understood because my english is weakly and this video speak very fast for me. it's necessary. i must to know about this for my subject that i'm studying .

    thank you .

  • People are ignorant and that's that.

Saying research on stem cells to save lives and make lives better is wrong is like saying cutting down trees to make own lives better is wrong also. We do it anyway to create a quality living.

  • It's my understanding that it is now possible to turn any cell into a 'stem cell'. Cells from anywhere in or on the body can be made to grow into anything. They are growing organs, hearts, lungs, livers etc. I've seen several articles and videos on these things recently this video is from 2007 it's old. These amazing achievements are yet another example of the incredible good science has given us. Science works and produces real benefits. If fact today's life is nearly impossible without it.

  • If one wants to believe in a certain aspect or how as they view it they can. As it is their right to do so.So it would be very hard to say if that aspect is wrong or right.

  • @TwilightTriEdge

A real atheist lacks belief in any deity. You're saying that atheists also don't believe in souls?

According to the definition, that's not entirely true.

"And the big bang is just another hypothesis without proof" Yet you defend the people that believe in the big bang, and attack people that believe in God.

  • @alexross8 We do not "lack" a belief in god we simply don't believe in one. Lack of something implies it is missing or to be short or have need of something. I have no need of a god.The big bang is not a hypothesis it is an accepted scientific theory the same as Germ Theory, the Theory of Gravitation , Atomic Theory and The Theory of Evolution all backed by evidence. If you want to know about science ask a scientist not a preacher. Creation . com is not science.

  • @denisasitis

"lack" can be used synonymously with a need, but it does not actually mean "need", neither does "need" mean a "lack". "lack" has a broader array of meanings, and would be the more appropriate term to define someone that has no belief, may need a belief, or is short of belief in a deity(s). A theory is coherent and consistent with evidence, and provides a model for prediction. If something comes along and takes it's place, then it will no longer be a theory.

  • @denisasitis

Furthermore, the empirical evidence isn't what proves a theory; the theory exists to explain the empirical evidence.

Animals do change, and evolution explains how and why they change.

The universe did have a beginning, and the big bang explains how and why it had a beginning.

It's hard to deny evolution. But look at the Big Bang; there are people with other cosmological models.

    Your "Science" is a philosophy.

  • @TwilightTriEdge

I could argue the same about people who think that the big bang created souls, which a lot of atheists and agnostics believe. I could argue the same about people who believe in the greys or the reptillian nibiru alien BS.

People believe in aliens, which I am ok with at a tolerable level, but not at an intellectual level. There is no basis for making a statistic about creatures that have never been seen.

  • @TwilightTriEdge

People don't actually fall for that logic that you say they do.

Belief is based on some crumb of evidence, whether or not it's distorted.

The nazis had very good strategies at avoiding the truth and giving misinformation for people to convert to the Nazism ideology. Believing in a God is NOTHING like believing in Santa clause. We know how presents get under the tree. We don't scientifically know how the Universe started. God is just another alternative to the big bang.

  • @TwilightTriEdge

Just because you can't comprehend something so simple, doesn't mean it isn't true; it just means that you have the inability to comprehend it.

  • hi

  • GO TO

  • whenever she makes the S noise my ears hurt =P

  • I am sure half the people arguing on this videos page have no idea what a stem cell is, let alone why it would be useful to study. And to settle the argument about god, I am a reductionist, so therefore it makes more sense to believe in what the sciences (biology, physics, and chemistry) tell us about the universe, rather than to romanticize it with some higher deity.

  • Sonic the hedgehog?! I was already for stem cells but this just makes it so much more awesome!

  • I could so imagine the voice of the video turning into one of a deep evil robot voice

'and that is A STEM CELL mwahahahaha'

  • People sure do get silly around the very phrase "stem cells". Amazing video, really well done. Thanks for posting this.

I really don't need tv anymore.

  • I'm doing a project on Stem Cells, its proving quite interesting so far.

  • I am a Christian, I need help

  • Here's a question for those who would consider an embryo a human life; if you were in a fertility clinic that was on fire, and there was a child in one corner and a tray of embryos in the other, and you could only save one, which would you save? Remember, if an embryo is a human life, you would be saving more human lives by saving the tray of embryos.

  • so the way i see it you'd take the tray of embryos while the conscience child with a nervous system capable of feeling the pain of burning to death is char grilled? or somebody else with enough sympathy for the unworthy child comes to rescue him??

  • @gypsybelievesinchaosactually when they are taking the stem cells at the blastocyst stage the embryo has no nerve endings so cant feel anything

  • @gypsybelievesinchaos actually when they are taking the stem cells at the blastocyst stage the embryo has no nerve endings so cant feel anything

  • True, True, now I would WANT to save both, but on the terms of feeling pain and suffering, I think it would be more ethical to save the child because we know that the child would die a painful and miserable death. Not sure though if the embryos would feel the pain.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt True, true, now I would WANT to save both, but on the terms of feeling pain and suffering, I think it would be much more ethical to save the child. We know the child would feel pain and suffer greatly, but I'm not sure if the embryos would feel pain or not.

  • ... uh, they most definitely would NOT feel pain. Ask a neuroscientist, feeling pain requires a nervous system, which embryos LACK. @R9nqu4

  • @HiddenFacedMatt those cells wouldnt be able to grow. or be birthed unless placed in a womans womb. and i've seen this particular question, or something similar in a TIME magazine article.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt - sounds pretty smug, you realise that's the same situation as havin one healthy child in the corner and a load of kids on life support machines in the other. science agrees that each embryo has a unique DNA that has never/nor will ever be seen again. i presume you weren't a human life when you were a blastocyst?yet look at you now.

  • When I was a blastocyst, I was conceived by parents who wanted to have a child. I was conceived with the intent of growing into being a human, not of being an extra embryo for IVF patients likely to end up just being thrown in the trash.. @theschlong182

Seriously, just how much better is it for fertilized embryos to be thrown out?

  • @HiddenFacedMatt ...they shouldn't be fertilised in the first place because like you said embyos have the intent of growing into a human.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt but in this case, you're endangering both the child and the embryos. the point is not that only one can/should be saved, but that all can/should be saved.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt .. not an easy questions to answer.. who would YOU save?

  • The child, at least provided I would still be more likely than not to survive myself in saving the child @oalvarez29

I believe in putting creatures that have feelings ahead of those who do not

  • @HiddenFacedMatt I would save the child without hesitation

  • @HiddenFacedMatt Hahahha this is funny. They throw out 400,000 embryos each year from fertility clinics because they are unusable and have sat for too long in a freezer. Over 463,000 children in foster care, but no one cares about them because they aren't microscopic? PLEASE AMERICA, CAN WE KEEP RELIGION OUT OF POLITICS FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE MEDICAL WORLD? Think about each other for a minute. If a couple can't have a child consider taking in one of those 463,000 children.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt Embryos in a tray are alive but that doesnt mean they will survive til birth. There are no emotional connections to a tray of embryos yet they are still considered human life. If they burn, they'll just make more and think nothing of the tray. However, the kid has made it past birth. If he dies there is an emotional connection to him. I would save the life that has already started and has feeling over a tray embryos that are only potential and will likely die off anyway.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt Neither, I hate kids.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt It would depend on the child, most likely the trey.

  • @HiddenFacedMatt Awesome comment. Absolutely awesome. Pro-lifers are insane and immoral. They prefer animal research over stem cell research. Anyone with morality based in sound science knows that is the true immorality. Stem cell research is a far better idea and is more accurate than alternative methods such as animal testing (I'm sure there's other forms of testing, but haven't heard of any aside from stem cell and animal research).

  • @HiddenFacedMatt God decides when we come and go from this reality! I would give my up my life for both if I could save them. If not, I would pray hard for a solution!

  • Stemgevity.info gives a way stem cells can be helpfully used now to help with many health problems

  • Stemthrive gives info on what can actually be done with stem cells

  • My woodie needs a hoodie :(

Hope stem cell research gives me a new hoodie someday.

*Sigh* Come on, stem cell research, ADVANCE FASTER!

  • Yay for stem cell research!!!!! Peter Griffin would totally agree!

  • im a christan hurr durr and a creationalist derp hurr

but we should be funding this derrf

  • @irunxboxlive LOL.

  • Beautiful...

  • Imagine reading this in biology book.

  • I am a Christian , a Creationist at that.

But I think stem cell research is a good thing.

  • @alexross8 just because you call yourself a Christian doesn't make you a true Christian.Have you tried to read a Bible?

  • @otamanlvhs

I believe in God! I believe that he created us, the animals, blood, water, land, and everything.

He gave us dominion over the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, and the beasts of the earth.

People think that stemcell research is "playing God" or tampering with devil magic. If you really believe that someone could ever "play God", being as almighty as he really his, and do "devil magic" , then I think the devil really does have you fooled for making you believe God is weak.

  • @alexross8 Look around you at the suffering on your planet......if there were a god that were responsible for the state of things, weak is not the word I would use to condemn him.

  • @denisasitis

The suffering on our planet? The pollution in our air and water, the diseases, the wars, the famine, the hate; I honestly hope your not blaming those man-made disasters on God. The natural world (That I believe God created) is so filled with beauty and life, but mankind is destroying it. He intended for us to have the freedom to do whatever we wanted; are you going to blame OUR problems on his choice to give us free will?

  • @otamanlvhs Have you read the bible? If christians today actually followed the fundamentals of the bible they would be put in prison. Homosexuality is punishable by death. Adultery is punishable by death. Working on the sabbath is punishable by death, etc. There are no TRUE christians.

  • @Clubbingshawn Have you heard of rules of Christianity? Love, care for, and help others. Bear witness to the good. Respect your parents and ancestors. Don’t envy. Don’t lie or bear false witness. Don’t steal. Don’t kill. Don’t betray your mate. If you kill someone because they're gays it will contradict with main christian law:DON'T KILL.
  • @otamanlvhs Have you read the laws of Moses? The ones that Christ himself says to follow and uphold in the bible? Read them please and tell me that they do not reflect on my first comment.

  • @otamanlvhs You left out the ones about how to treat your slaves and when to kill your daughters and disobedient children. A clump of cells is not a human

  • @Clubbingshawn True, back in ancient Israel adultery, homosexuality etc. were punishable by death, but you're talking about the Mosaic Law. It's not the code that Christians follow. Jeremiah 31:31-34 details a prophecy about "New Covenant" that would render the old Mosaic Law obsolete after the Messianic prophecies were fulfilled. Since Jesus fulfilled those prophecies, the New Covenant took effect, and that is the one Christians follow.

  • @Sparx1

:), and we follow what should have always been followed, the teaching and message of Jesus son of Mariam, Moses, Abraham, Noah, Jacob, Jonah, Joseph, Issac, Ismael (peace be upon them all) to list a few and finally Muhammad peace be upon him, we are known as Muslims. Check out Quran on embryology, creation of Universe e.t.c.

  • @mainmosque Do you really believe the Quran or any "holy" book has anything to say on the matters of science? Other than what was known at the time IE the knowledge of the Greeks I think not. Why did these books not give us something in plan terms that would have helped mankind rather than a bunch of bullshit that sets us against one another? They are the ravings of a bunch of desert dwelling illiterates. Please it's now the 21st century come into it.

  • @denisasitis

How do you know that it came from Greeks? You yourself said "they are the ravings of a bunch of desert dwelling illiterates". Do you hold a PHD in Science especially in Genetic Engineering? but then using one set of qyualification to counter another set of experiences would be not ethical, would it? Despite this, I respect your opinion as I have been commanded to :)

    Excellent Video once again

  • @mainmosque Because I read history. The authors of the quran had the benefit of the of the knowledge of the Greeks at the time of the writing of the quran. Islam did us a favor by saving much of that knowledge from the wacked out book burning christians of the dark ages, I don't mean to imply they're not whacks now, they are. If the "prophets" of the desert had been literate one would think they would have written the books themselves during their lives. Glad you liked the video....cheers

  • @Sparx1 Yes, but Jesus also said to follow the laws of Moses and of the OT. Matthew 5:18-19. I'm sure we can safely assume that if He wants us to follow the same laws, then we should also enforce the same punishments for those laws. This boils down to yet another contradiction in the bible. I can see now why Christians have to cherry pick what they believe, because you can't accept all of it.

  • @alexross8 Update your mind, evolve. ;)

  • @alexross8 Im also a Christian and there are a lot of books from the bible that I dont believe in, the genesis being one of them, you dont need to go trough a group of "rules" to be a christian of to believe in whatever you want, but man, sorry to say this but Creationism is a theory that has no single scientific proof or whatever. Evolutionism is more than a theory nowadays and most scientists consider it a scientific truth, my opinion, just saying

  • @extreme5050 by what standards does one determine fact from fiction within the bible

  • @jamrollz Nothing should be taken as truth, anything at all, the only thing we can get out of the bible books are just values which improve social and familiar relations. The bible was written by man, not god, even the people who wrote the new testemony did it like 150 years after "jesus death" according to arqueologists. I never said we should take the bible seriously, that is surelly a mustnt and not very wise thing. We should look at it like we look at the ancient egiptians story

  • @alexross8 No one gives a shit about what you think, shut up.

  • @alexross8 your a christian and u believe in creationism?how do you manage to use your computer?who is helping you?

  • @geiuy

It's easy to lack faith in something that is obviously a bit dodgy. If you come to believe in something that is contradictory to your current perspective, then it is wise to believe in one and let the other go.

I used to believe that the world was solid and clear. But the inherent premise in my spirituality supersedes any lower understanding of the world, because there is no compromise.

That's how I manage to use my computer.

  • @alexross8 why is it so hard to say "I don't know?does it make you relgious folks feel stupid or less man to simply say the three words "I don't know"'?we all know that we don't know sh@#t but yet u guys just don't want to admit it and would rather keep obsessing with these imaginary friends and this "faith".if a man tells you that he has "faith" and believes without a doubt that rats are our gods and we should pray to them, would u take him seriously?

  • @geiuy

It's hard to say "I don't know", because I would be lying to myself. The fact is, I know something is true, and I can't just be persuaded to un-see my beliefs.

  • @alexross8

    I agree

  • Great film, very informative

  • Nice video but it would be useful if you could show spellings of important words using captions.

  • how can you oppose this your not even killing babies its perfectly ethical stupid christians and cathloics idiots whats not ethical is funding something that could help disable or mentally retarded people become normal. now thats cruel. so if you oppose stem cells you are a complete idiot and you should go to hell

  • were sooo freaky!

  • @bmedinago can i use this video for a school project???

  • why cant scientists just culture one of those ES cells and make it make more ES cells?

  • @candy12222 Easier said than done

  • @candy12222 And, just for reference, search HMC. My ES cell wouldn't work with you, or yours with me.

  • @candysamurai thanks a lot ;D -_- i'm doing a debate on stem cells for my gov't class

  • @candy12222 me too, we're also having a debate on this. we're actually on the affirmative side. :)

  • Discover more at STEMTHRIVE for Stemgevity

  • Why the lesbian commentator ...?

  • I'm sorry but was I the only one who heard that initiation factor called "sonic hedgehog" and laughed?

  • @JimmyBoi3228 If you discover the gene, you get to name it. There are all sorts of strange gene names: fruity, groucho, icebox, lunatic fringe, pokemon, arse...etc.

  • This video gives a graphical display of the potential of stem cells. Hopefully one day, we'll be able to harness their power. I really enjoyed this video

  • for all you Rtards out there that are afraid of change. in 1992 (i think) my older brother had a brain tumor they removed it but some of his brainstem was removed as well so they used sten cells to repair the brain stem. if it wasnt for those kids' sacrifice i wouldnt have an older brother or i'd just have a brain dead one but either way i wasnt alive then but if my kid or any1 elses kid has that same tumor we need these to cure diseases and other things.

  • am i looking at the right technique? id like to know the most promising technique for growing/repairing dermis. answer is hugely appreciated

  • diseases created by the pigs humans race who ,fuck dog monkeys and sheeps .and spread around our ancestors , and viruses ''created by elite scientist . to make the drug companies bilionares cause drugs don't cure you they make you feel better.

  • Stem cell research is a scam by atheists to steal research funding from Catholics who won't do for liberal Atheists who will. It's produced not one single God damned thing beyond fatter liberal Atheists. NADA! NOTHING! ZILCH! EVERYBODY LOOK HOW THE ATHEIST CON ARTISTS RIPPED US OFF!

  • @Texasjim2007 1:, SHUT UP, i am a catholic and support stem cell research. 2: EMBRYONIC stem cells havent fixed anything YET. A lady in spain had here wind pipe REGROWN from here stem cells. a kid with diabetes is nearly fully cured from his stem cells. do research before you open your mouth. 3: my brother is dying from a genetic disease, and stem cells can cure it. so all you people out there who like what this punk said... you just killed a spaniard, my 7 year old bro, and thousdands more.

  • @Texasjim2007 idiot.

  • would a treatment of some sort be capable of repairing damaged dermis?

  • you all have no idea...maybe god ment for man to find out how to use stem cells so we can make his job easier by not having soo many people die from desieses and problems assosciated with the heart of a major organ causes. so we are helping him by using stem cells :D ( i agree with kenmacmillans statement and dirtbagarry's statment)

  • The stem cep

  • Giving stem cells vital nutrients as in Stemgevity allows thevgr stem cells

  • I have a tooth that needs to be pulled but stem cells could grow me a new tooth.

    Just amazed with modern science!

  • but how do we stop the growth

do we need to buy another product

  • f***ing church there is no god for goodness sake

this can save millions of lives

  • once again Conservatism will keep America from advancing in stem cell research. The rest of the world is well ahead of America. If we keep letting conservatives dominate our political culture, our laws, our judicial courts, then not only will our recession continue for the vast majority of the people in this country, while the filthy richs just gets richer, then our scientific advancements will also falter...stem cells are not human, they have nothing YET! it's okay to use them for research.

  • @dalecampbl5 I couldn't agree with you more.

  • @panique365 I'm just a loud mouth for common sense

  • What can embryonic stem cells do that can't be done through adult stem cells? Its difficult to get unbiased facts but it appears that ASC is almost at the practical application stage and can be manipulated to do anything the ESC can?

  • If we let religion interfere with science we would probably still not have computer in the year 2010, lol.

  • At about 6:40, did she say "Sonic Hedgehog?"
