Thank you so much for uploading this. It gave me a massive appreciation of medicine and the human body, and I am now even more inclined to study medicine in a few years - brilliant series.
I feel so sad for Semmelweiss...He must have been feeling so frustrated and angry that he became crazy. Why were the other surgeons so stubborn? Even if they do not understand how it works, shouldn't they acknowledge the obvious effect of hand washing on the success rates of operations? Hopefully the scientific community and the general public today will be more open-minded and receptive to new (albeit not as well-understood or controversial at that point of time) discoveries...
How didn't those idiots notice that less people died when they did as Semmelweiss told them. Sad how the poor guy ended up. Too bad he didn't live to see his idea being embraced by the medical community.
Oh my, I hate when people trick me into going to the loony bin... LOL This is a great series. Verry cool to get an overview on so many medical advances. Thx for posting this.
wow- the doctor was brilliant! too bad he wasnt more charismatic! he could have been famous in his time! too bad! well, ty to this dude for his medical contributions! ;)

I got cat scratch fever once. And not the radio kind! Please, have your pet spayed or neutered, and wash its paws with carbolic acid ALL DAY LONG.

Back in the civil war era.....having surgery and receiving medical treatment was MORE dangerous then just doing nothing.
I know, because I was there.

The idiot doctors put Semmelweiss in a lunatic asylum for telling them to wash their dammed hands? It's that simple! Wash their hands!
Evil doers.

@irfand4 I don't think he ever became a doctor. Maybe he did, but at any rate he's wonderfully enthusiastic about it all.
