I'm actually considering purchasing a truck big enough to accommodate either a truck camper or a trailer camper, and living in it for a while. As long as it has a shower, toliet, cooking area, basic insulation / heater + solar panels, I'm satisfied really. I'm actually looking into trailer property where I can just pull up, hook up sewage, electric, and be good to go. If not, I'll buy my own property and do it myself. As a construction worker who gets laid off - it makes sense to go this route
I see this is about 1 1/2 years old, and I know more people who have moved into RVs, Vans, and boats since this was first posted. Here on the East Coast, a LOT of people are living aboard boats, often small boats, because they have lost their homes or can no longer afford rent.
If society can call a CARD a Spade...If people can meddle and judge anothers trouble...offer EMploy be kind. Do not point with your children and laugh at anothers Calamity. Shame on all who flap at the mouth unless REBUKE!
Thrifty is intelligent and American in time of dry season, if no one offers solution all need to silent or EXTEND. If not SILENCE the SNOUT!
There are about 1 million homeless Americans in USA; it would cost about 12,000 a year to house and feed a homeless person. That is about 12 billion dollars a year federal program (not counting overhead). Is that too much? The ironic thing is that Wall Street executives still got their yearly bonuses (average 125,000) for 2010 dispersed from a total pool of 20 billion dollars. That would eliminate homelessness and money left over for a jobs program in America!!!
@yhenry77 - I find it funny that people always look to the wealthy to fix everything wrong with the country. Just giving somebody a place to live doesn't fix anything, just giving them money doesn't fix anything. Our welfare system is corrupt and broken, stealing more from the wealthy won't fix it.
I kind of admire people like that. they seem han soloish.
sort of renegades, they do what they want when they want. if you can condition yourself to live that way and simply, it seems like fun. some of the newer RV's have showers.
I live in the San Fernando Valley pal, you don't represent me or most of southern California who love living in the Valley. Venice, California is a freak show with a lot of crime and freaks galore. Let me tell you folks watching this, the San Fernando valley is paradise. well at least in the west valley, if you ever have the opportunity to visit the area. in this economy who knows when you will be able too. if you are travel that is.
Ya I just paid off my condo. One of my nightmares is to suddenly find myself homeless. That's why I shopped for and bought a place that I could afford even if my income was cut in half. This month I paid this place off so the chances of my becoming homeless are small. Thank goodness!
Still I do have a truck that I could live in if disaster strikes and I'm going to expand it with a flip pac popup tent shell. Great for camping but I hope I never have to live in it.
I like the buddah bus engine runs great. Cali has some real old busses here in Louisiana they have to sell the busses after 25 years they will not allow them to transport students. I think that is a real waiste since you can replace the seats repair the bus they can last quite a bit longer a bus is so tough and safe.
