Tomorrow Never Knows cover! youtube.com/watch?v=OCItLAubi8I&feature=channel_video_title ............... If you listen to it tell me what do you think about it :)
I love the Beatles. I have a soft spot for Oasis [especially Noel's work within the group. High Flying Birds is amazing] but this is just boring. Don't tell me to "drop in, and tune out". They've simplified the song. Where is the driving drum beat? Just because there are tape loops doesn't mean they can't be replicated. It drones on. Sorry. Marr's part is great, though. Did the song some justice.
@xdelarosax210 They have said before that they are the next Beatles. Kind of pretentious if you ask me, but hey, they do make some pretty fucking good music.
beautiful version, that anyone would dislike it blows my mind
is this not exactly in the same spirit of the original artists themselves?
life is full of really excellent surprises like this, a band that sounds like this exists & we're not knocking ourselves out to put them over the top, strange
@CounterfeitDogz They've been more than "over the top" in terms of success. They were enormous in the 90's. As one of them once explained in an interview that when their first song first hit big he went from being nearly destitute to be a millionaire 4 times over in a single week. They've sold more than 50 million records.
Shame Oasis managed to marr and taint eveything they did by acting like arseholes and pissing all over the name of The Beales. That attitute doesnt deserve to carry on that sound.
the smiths for one. the roses agreed. the beatles, the stones, the kinks. i can probably name more bands that are better than oasis than those which are worse.
@jbdean55 it may be in your best interest, then, to focus on that which you enjoy, rather than piss away your measly time on a vid and song you dislike. a novel thought...
this version puts mee into the meloncholy thee original gets me out of, its abit slow, but saying that, any band who covers songs released before they were even born is cool with me, especially if its a beatles cover, they rocked. R.I.P George and John, their influence far outlives their years
I started TO hear NIRVANA songs AFTER the BAND already DIED , and WHEN it WAS over , I started LISTENING to OASIS , and NOW its GONE , so I m LISTENING to KASABIAN , and WHEN they ARE gone ... I will BE alone , AGAIN , or UNTILL the NEXT good ROCK band RISES ... but BY the WAY modern ROCK looks , I rather LISTEN to RADIO static .
@DavePerry2012 Okay, listen, if you played in a band, or any instruments at all, you would know that it is MANDITORY to play Beatles songs. Not because you're trying to be like them, but because you're honoring them.
@DavePerry2012 - Johnny's the first to name his influences. It's impossible to learn music and not be influenced by someone. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Offenbach, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Stravinsky.....they were all influenced by those who came before them. Even Johnny Marr. Who, I believe, is grossly under rated by contemporary popular music.
I love how people call Oasis out for copying the Beatle,s when pretty much every band from 1969 on has done the same thing in one way or another. The only difference is that Oasisdid it better than the rest.
to all those "oasis rpped off beatles" fuckers, tell me where they're best songs are stolen from: live forever wonderwall dont look back in anger (dare you say imagine) champagne supernova slide away supersonic rock'n'roll star importance of being idle listen up some might say
good version But it still needs that tribal beat drums that makes song gives the meaning of the song i would like hear in a latin version that be cool , i do like david lee roth version too it is awesome
@DiddyTheDuck2 but the version of this song with Ringo's druming on it ALREADY EXISTS. I strongly believe that when ANYBODY covers a song ANY song they should try to change it in some way, make it their own in some because without that the COVER becomes a COPY which if you ask me is a bad thing.
@balurdones This version is fucking shit, I'd like to see if Oasis could make The Beatles' version in 1967, of course they couldn't. They would be nowhere without the Beatles
Aw come on, Beatles made Tomorrow Never Knows, so they could experiment with the recording gear, im damn sure they couldn't play it live, because it wasn't mean to be played live. This is actually good a cover.
the inspiration flows on, music is 100% inspiration to want to make something of your own and who cares in Noel takes influence from the Beatles, he openly admits it, its not like he deny's stealing Imagine's piano riff or taking lyric ideas from the Beatles. The Beatles were influenced too by a lot of people, its not like they just decided to make music one day without hearing it before them.
Calling these guys beatles rip-offs is stupid, they don't try and hide their Beatles influence, so they are being transparent and honest. Anyway, the beatles were the best band that ever fucking walked the face of the earth, so a band that is a fraction as good as them is a good thing.
@clumpft the beatles were good, but they didn't have something that Oasis had....... a pair of bollocks and a fuck you if you don't like it attitude. As good as they were, the Beatles couldn't speak to people on the council estates because they had never been there. Liam and Noel came from the shit and became legends because of it. The Beatles would never have been signed if they had burnage accents and wore denim.
@knkevinuk The Beatles were good? That's a bit of a downplayed opinion on their music! My care factor about attitude and having a "fuck you" attitude is pretty low I have to admit. I'm not sure that's always worked in Oasis's favor anyway. Liam and Noel may have come from council estates, but that didn't mean the Beatles were born into luxury and privalege. The Beatles were legends because of their ever-evolving musical genius and for being part of a social revolution, not for rags to riches.
@knkevinuk Thats is a silly boy paragraph. The Beatles most certainly had bollocks. Arrested for drug trafficking, wild party nights etc etc. The only difference is, is that the media was not as intursive in the 1960's as it is now.An example would be the lifestlye of The Who, they make Peter Docherty, Oasis and Amy Whinehouse look like nursery kids.

@clumpft you know what, thank you for stating that. No one's ever going match the beatles, so making comparisons to the beatles is only a massive compliment. and honestly, if more bands drew more of a beatles influence, today's music would be a lot better than it is.
@nookiescookies a delay pedal. search for boss dd delays and you will see that you can get that sound from one of those pedal.i dosent work with any delay pedal
Ok, so show me where the rule is that a cover has to sound or be like the original???!!! Haven't you ever heard of artistic creative license. These are music legends up here in their own right, it's more of a compliment to an artist to recreate their music with your own slant on how it makes you feel or think about it than to try to copycat the work. Who wants to hear another artist do a song just like the original artist? Where is the logic in that? Get your head out of your butt.
2 best british bands ever were of irish descent. Oasis' parents are both irish and Lennon Harrison and McCartney were irish in name and descent as well.
@joethulhuz I looked up the origin of McCartney here is a quote and a link. This notable surname is an Anglicized form of the Old Scottish Gaelic "MacArtain" or the Irish "MacCartaine". The Gaelic prefix "mac" means "son of", and "Artain" is a diminutive of the Old Celtic byname "Art", bear, hero. Traditionally, Gaelic family names are taken from the heads of tribes or from some illustrious warrior.
@joethulhuz It is also an Anglicized form of the Irish name of "MacCartaine" My guess would be that it came from this line, and not the Scottish "MacArtain" I am enjoying our conversation, I love learning about name and word origins.
No-one should ever touch this song. The original was, is and will always remain amazing. Oasis were not, are not and will never be anything like the Beatles.
@Renegademaster15 Actually, Oasis does seem to want to be the Beatles. They've not only covered a lot of their songs (which isn't really that bad) but they seem to enjoy stealing ideas and melodies from Beatles songs.
@Renegademaster15 No, not necessarily. In Oasis' case, they do more than that. Almost all of their songs is based around a modified Beatles melody. Noel Gallagher wears Lennon glasses frequently in the music videos. And they cover them practically any chance they get. Oasis is the wannabe Beatles of modern times.
@joethulhuz No almost all of their songs are not based around a modfied Beatles melody what so ever... They are influenced by a handful of bands as much as Beatles like T-Rex, Stone Roses and The Smiths
@joethulhuz I think you need to try understand what being influenced by actually means, next to none of Oasis's melodies are stolen, they occasionally add stuff to their work as conscious references to other bands, such as the Imagine start of Don't Look Back in Anger, do you really think Gallagher would do that without knowing people would know? He wants them to, and should we point out the obvious fact a huge degree of Beatles early work was covers ? ...
@Renegademaster15 I've listened to a lot of Oasis, because I've really tried to like them. I really have. And I can remember very, very few that didn't sound immensely like Beatles songs.
As for the Beatles and covers: a good portion, yes. A huge degree, no. The Beatles recorded 25 cover songs out of 7 albums and 1 EP, 101 songs. That's about 1/4.
@joethulhuz Well don't attack other people just because YOU don't like them, do you think no one else should? Some people grew up with The Beatles, some people grew up with Oasis, get over it.
Is it really a bad thing to be so often compared to what is widely considered the best band ever? I really doubt you have listened to Oasis's LP's through and through, because if you had, you wouldn't compare them to the Beatles.
And a quarter of a bands catalogue being covers, is huge to me.
In Oasis' case, I'm sure they love it, but it annoys me, as they're so obviously lifted. No, I've never listened to an album all the way through, because that'd require me to buy it, and I'd rather not give Oasis my money. But I have listened to a lot of songs.
Not a quarter of the catalogue. A quarter of the early work. There's 230 songs overall. That makes about 1/8 if I did my math correctly.
And so you've heard their singles and you are judging? Go listen to Definitely Maybe, What's the Story and The Masterplan, I'm sure you'll have a very different opinion
@Renegademaster15 Not just the singles, I've heard some album cuts. But as I stated before, I don't feel like sifting through YouTube for the entire albums, I don't support piracy, and until I've got some proof that Oasis can write a good song on their own without taking melodies from other people, I'm unwilling to purchase an album.
@Renegademaster15 Update: I've listened to the title track of Masterplan, which I've not heard until now. The lead singer (not sure if it's Noel or Liam in this one, and I don't much care, honestly) looks like he's trying to be John Lennon, and if I didn't know better I'd have thought it was him. I hear a portion of the How Sweet to be an Idiot/Whatever melody in the background. There also seems to be a bit that's similar to the horns section in All You Need is Love.
@Renegademaster15 Yes, Whatever is an Oasis song, that has portions of the melody stolen from a Neil Innes song called How Sweet to be an Idiot. Go look it up and you'll know what portion of the melody I'm hearing.
@joethulhuz No Whatevers melody is similar, doesn't mean it is stolen what so ever, but Whatever is a terrible song to be fair but it isn't a Beatles song is it?, and no the melody does not resemble I'm Only Sleeping (my 2nd favourite Beatles song) at all, Let It Be might not reference it, get over it and yes of course Lennon invented circular glasses, what an idiot I've been... and No ES-355 is quite different in colouration (Cherry Casinos are EXTREMELY rare) and body to an Epiphone Casino
@Renegademaster15 Do you really want to get into whether Whatever ripped off How Sweet to be an Idiot with me? Because I for one would rather not. No, it's not a Beatles song, but that doesn't mean it's not stolen. And as I said, it might just be me that thinks it sounds like I'm Only Sleeping. No Lennon didn't invent circular glasses or colored ones but Liam has modeled his look after Lennon. I'm basing my reference to the guitar off of an animation of it so maybe the real one looks different.
@Renegademaster15 There're three more Beatles references I can see in the video: a line ("let it be"), the guitar player playing an Epiphone Casino (preferred instruments of George Harrison and John Lennon in the Rubber Soul/Revolver sessions) and a marching band wearing odd colors (pink and blue, the same as Ringo and Paul in Sgt. Pepper). Other than that the chord progression is pretty simple and it's relatively unoffensive. Probably the most original I've heard so far, but not amazing.
@joethulhuz Do you not understand that you are going to see and hear what you want to? Your claim is that ANYONE using a backwards guitar solo is wanting to be the Beatles, please I can think of a huge number of bands who have used the technique, hats off for them for inventing it but they haven't copyrighted it, So anyone saying Let it Be is obviously referring to the Beatles? No... The title character is clearly Liam with his trademark look and swagger, it's not my fault you see Lennon
@Renegademaster15 NOT ALL BACKWARDS GUITAR SOLOS ARE TRYING TO BE THE BEATLES, of course, but in this case, THE MELODY RESEMBLES THAT OF I'M ONLY SLEEPING. NOT EVERYONE SAYING "LET IT BE" IS REFERENCING THE BEATLES, of COURSE, but IN THIS CASE, knowing Oasis and their seeming goal to reference the Beatles as much as possible, IT'S PROBABLY A REFERENCE. As for Liam looking like Lennon, OF COURSE HE DOES.
@Renegademaster15 Since the first Oasis video I saw (Don't Look Back in Anger) I have thought this, and you can't possibly say that someone with colored, circular glasses and Lennon-esque hair ISN'T TRYING TO BE LENNON. One or the other on its own? No, probably not. Both together? YES, PROBABLY SO.
@joethulhuz Your Epiphone Casino reference is LAUGHABLE, A) It's not an Epiphone Casino, it's a Gibson 355, Gallaghers main guitar so you're wrong there, Gallagher has nearly never used a Casino, plus the notion a band is trying to be a band because of a guitar is stupid, we may aswell claim he's trying to be Chuck Berry.. Plus George and John were not the first to use a Casino at all, Keith Richards, Brian Jones and Dave Davies all used a Casino before them...
@Renegademaster15 Well I'm sorry for not knowing every single model of guitar ever made. It has the same design and coloration as an Epiphone Casino, particularly those used by Lennon and Harrison. And of course they weren't the FIRST to use them, you'd have to be a moron to think that. But, once again, KNOWING OASIS, it might've been bought as wanting to have a similar guitar. MIGHT'VE. I'm not saying if definitely was.
@joethulhuz And Noel uses a Cherry 355 because seeing The Smiths (and specifically Johnny Marr) on Top of the Pops (watch What Difference Does It Make) had a HUGE effect on him but no one recognises there multitudes of influences (like every band has influences even The Beatles, maybe you should look into what band they, according to your standards would have "ripped off")
And you know what, it is just you, you're so desperately grasping at straws it is unbelievable, sort it out
@Renegademaster15 Of course Oasis was inspired by many bands, only tribute bands have just one inspiration. The Beatles were inspired by Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and numerous female singing groups of the time. I'm sorry I misidentified Noel's guitar. As I said, I've not memorized every single brand of guitar ever made. I happen to own a 355 though so honestly I am surprised I've made that mistake.
@joethulhuz Plus John didn't use his until the Revolver sessions, plus it was McCartney who actually first used one... Still after the other players I mentioned, are you going to claim Paul Weller, Daniel Kessler, The Edge and Ed O'Brien all want to be George or Lennon aswell? How much do you want to grasp at straws, you are seeing what you want to see, you just must be Beatles mad to see and hear them so much, try listening to some other music...
@Renegademaster15 Wait, it's not the lead singer that looks like Lennon. In the "performance" section he sits off to the side with a tambourine, though he's featured prominently in the scenes where they are walking. Maybe it is supposed to be Lennon? Also, there's a section that sounds vaguely like the backwards guitar solo in I'm Only Sleeping, though it could just be me.
@joethulhuz Oh and while you were spotting all these hugely insignificant supposed references (also shall we mention that Liam and Noel had nothing to do with the creation of the video and it was made ten years after the title track was released?) did you actually bother to listen to the song? Because it's undeniably a cracker if you actually gave it a chance :)
@Renegademaster15 I don't care if they didn't make it. The Beatles didn't make the Free as a Bird video. And as should be obvious, I listened to the music as well. Actually, I listened to it once without even watching the video and heard the musical parts I've referenced here, and then watched the video and mentioned the visual parts. And I'm sorry, but I'd have to be one to deny that it's a "cracker".
@Renegademaster15 By the way, you did notice that in reference to the backwards guitar solo, I said: "Also, there's a section that sounds vaguely like the backwards guitar solo in I'm Only Sleeping, THOUGH IT COULD JUST BE ME." I wasn't saying it definitely was, once again, but instead saying it POSSIBLY COULD BE.
@joethulhuz To finish, Oasis have undoubtedly been influenced by The Beatles, considering they're the most influential band ever, there has been multitudes of bands that have been influenced by them, however Oasis were just as much influenced by The Smiths, Stone Roses, T-Rex, The Kinks, Rolling Stones, The Jam, Sex Pistols, Slade, Led Zep, the list goes on
@Renegademaster15 I've listened to a lot of Oasis, as I've said before, and I've really tried to like them, but there's a difference between inspiration and ripping off, as I'm sure you understand. You see it as inspiration and I see it as rip off. Let's leave it at that, shall we? And even besides, Oasis will never, ever get anywhere near the Beatles, in popularity or talent. That's why I knew who the Beatles were since I was six and only learned of Oasis last year.
@joethulhuz You only learned of Oasis last year? Where the hell do you live really ? And yes I do understand the difference, you clearly don't, end of the day, I'm a huge Oasis fan, and have listened to everything they've ever produced, you haven't even bothered listening to their best work, you don't have a right to judge, just stop arguing because you are wrong, and yes believe it or not they were near them in popularity definitely, one of the biggest bands here ever
@Renegademaster15 Name their best song. The single best song that Oasis has ever produced. Because other than that you can't prove I haven't listened to their best work. Being American doesn't change anything. Yes I was here in the late 90s (though I was only 10) and I don't remember them at all. Then again, I wasn't very much into music outside of film scores at the time so maybe I just didn't pay attention.
@joethulhuz Ah I've just checked, you're American, I don't need to be arguing with you, The Americans never understood Oasis, I keep mentioning bands and you've probably never even heard of them, my favourite band are the Smiths, bet you don't even have a clue who they are, I don't need to argue with you anymore, you don't have a clue, you weren't here in the late 90's to see how big Oasis were, it was like the Second Coming of The Beatles
@Renegademaster15 Attacking someone's nationality makes you look less than intelligent, especially when dealing with subjective matters. Just because someone does not share your opinion, insulting an entire nation is uncalled for. I am American, and like many, I like some Oasis.
@Renegademaster15 Saying I am wrong looses even more credibility from you. Neither of us is wrong... It's an opinion. People disagree over opinions. Also, "The Americans never understood Oasis" is not a legitimate argument. Does that mean I didn't understand the Beatles, the Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd, as well as all the other great English bands? And yes, actually, I do know who the Smiths are. Not a huge fan, in fact, I don't even own any of their music, but I know who they are.
@joethulhuz To be perfectly honest you had no credibility in my eyes the minute you claimed Oasis were a Beatles rip off
That isn't an opinion, you are relaying that as a statement of fact, a fact which I think is wrong
And I know you haven't listened to their albums in their entirety so you haven't listened to their best work have you? If I named what I thought was Oasis's best song then it'd just be me saying what's my favourite, but it's Live Forever if you're curious
@Renegademaster15 Unfortunately what lost credibility for me in your eyes is only truth.
A fact, which it is your opinion that it is wrong.
I said before, I'm not going to buy an album and I'm not going to scour YouTube to listen to the album in correct order.
From comments on the video it seems there is a general consensus that Live Forever is their best song. I'm listening to it now and so far it's not impressed me though I don't see any parts that are stolen.
the beetles version of this is much better, the beetles version is more of a stoner song, Witch i like better.

Well, it's missing Ringo's genius drum work. It's nothing without

DiddyTheDuck2 9 months ago 51
@DiddyTheDuck2 but the version of this song with Ringo's druming on it ALREADY EXISTS. I strongly believe that when ANYBODY covers a song ANY song they should try to change it in some way, make it their own in some because without that the COVER becomes a COPY which if you ask me is a bad thing.
ricchardo 5 months ago
@DiddyTheDuck2 i disagree, though the song's drumwork was really innovative and revolutionary... this specific song is much more than his bit

The Beatles The Stone Roses Oasis
the inspiration flows on, music is 100% inspiration to want to make something of your own and who cares in Noel takes influence from the Beatles, he openly admits it, its not like he deny's stealing Imagine's piano riff or taking lyric ideas from the Beatles. The Beatles were influenced too by a lot of people, its not like they just decided to make music one day without hearing it before them.

Calling these guys beatles rip-offs is stupid, they don't try and hide their Beatles influence, so they are being transparent and honest. Anyway, the beatles were the best band that ever fucking walked the face of the earth, so a band that is a fraction as good as them is a good thing.

twstrchasr 1 year ago
@clumpft the beatles were good, but they didn't have something that Oasis had....... a pair of bollocks and a fuck you if you don't like it attitude. As good as they were, the Beatles couldn't speak to people on the council estates because they had never been there. Liam and Noel came from the shit and became legends because of it. The Beatles would never have been signed if they had burnage accents and wore denim.
knkevinuk 8 months ago
@knkevinuk The Beatles were good? That's a bit of a downplayed opinion on their music! My care factor about attitude and having a "fuck you" attitude is pretty low I have to admit. I'm not sure that's always worked in Oasis's favor anyway. Liam and Noel may have come from council estates, but that didn't mean the Beatles were born into luxury and privalege. The Beatles were legends because of their ever-evolving musical genius and for being part of a social revolution, not for rags to riches.
clumpft 7 months ago

Scoob505 1 year ago
@Scoob505 McCartney was Scottish, but you're right about Lennon and Harrison.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz McCartney's Father was Irish-English and his mother was Irish.
psychgirl07 1 year ago
@psychgirl07 But he was of Scottish descent, wasn't he? I mean - McCartney is a Scottish name.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz I looked up the origin of McCartney here is a quote and a link. This notable surname is an Anglicized form of the Old Scottish Gaelic "MacArtain" or the Irish "MacCartaine". The Gaelic prefix "mac" means "son of", and "Artain" is a diminutive of the Old Celtic byname "Art", bear, hero. Traditionally, Gaelic family names are taken from the heads of tribes or from some illustrious warrior.
psychgirl07 1 year ago
@psychgirl07 So it is a Scottish name. How did he get a Scottish name if he was Irish?
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz It is also an Anglicized form of the Irish name of "MacCartaine" My guess would be that it came from this line, and not the Scottish "MacArtain" I am enjoying our conversation, I love learning about name and word origins.
psychgirl07 1 year ago
@psychgirl07 Yeah, I saw that it was Irish too after I posted that comment. I agree that it's interesting to know where names came from.

No-one should ever touch this song. The original was, is and will always remain amazing. Oasis were not, are not and will never be anything like the Beatles.
dantheoriginator 1 year ago
@dantheoriginator They're clearly not trying to be The Beatles, just giving tribute to an artist that they clearly love and adore
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Actually, Oasis does seem to want to be the Beatles. They've not only covered a lot of their songs (which isn't really that bad) but they seem to enjoy stealing ideas and melodies from Beatles songs.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Yes because you want to be a band if you cover them...
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 No, not necessarily. In Oasis' case, they do more than that. Almost all of their songs is based around a modified Beatles melody. Noel Gallagher wears Lennon glasses frequently in the music videos. And they cover them practically any chance they get. Oasis is the wannabe Beatles of modern times.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz No almost all of their songs are not based around a modfied Beatles melody what so ever... They are influenced by a handful of bands as much as Beatles like T-Rex, Stone Roses and The Smiths
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Didn't say they didn't add more stolen melodies on to the original melody.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz I think you need to try understand what being influenced by actually means, next to none of Oasis's melodies are stolen, they occasionally add stuff to their work as conscious references to other bands, such as the Imagine start of Don't Look Back in Anger, do you really think Gallagher would do that without knowing people would know? He wants them to, and should we point out the obvious fact a huge degree of Beatles early work was covers ? ...
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 I've listened to a lot of Oasis, because I've really tried to like them. I really have. And I can remember very, very few that didn't sound immensely like Beatles songs.
As for the Beatles and covers: a good portion, yes. A huge degree, no. The Beatles recorded 25 cover songs out of 7 albums and 1 EP, 101 songs. That's about 1/4.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Well don't attack other people just because YOU don't like them, do you think no one else should? Some people grew up with The Beatles, some people grew up with Oasis, get over it.
Is it really a bad thing to be so often compared to what is widely considered the best band ever? I really doubt you have listened to Oasis's LP's through and through, because if you had, you wouldn't compare them to the Beatles.
And a quarter of a bands catalogue being covers, is huge to me.
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 I'm not attacking anyone.
That makes about 1/8 if I did my math correctly.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Even an 8th
And so you've heard their singles and you are judging? Go listen to Definitely Maybe, What's the Story and The Masterplan, I'm sure you'll have a very different opinion
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Not just the singles, I've heard some album cuts. But as I stated before, I don't feel like sifting through YouTube for the entire albums, I don't support piracy, and until I've got some proof that Oasis can write a good song on their own without taking melodies from other people, I'm unwilling to purchase an album.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Update: I've listened to the title track of Masterplan, which I've not heard until now. The lead singer (not sure if it's Noel or Liam in this one, and I don't much care, honestly) looks like he's trying to be John Lennon, and if I didn't know better I'd have thought it was him. I hear a portion of the How Sweet to be an Idiot/Whatever melody in the background. There also seems to be a bit that's similar to the horns section in All You Need is Love.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz And final point to your utterly weak argument
You hear a portion of Whatever melody in the background?
I don't hear this at all but you are aware Whatever is an Oasis song
Not a Beatles one...
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Yes, Whatever is an Oasis song, that has portions of the melody stolen from a Neil Innes song called How Sweet to be an Idiot. Go look it up and you'll know what portion of the melody I'm hearing.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz No Whatevers melody is similar, doesn't mean it is stolen what so ever, but Whatever is a terrible song to be fair but it isn't a Beatles song is it?, and no the melody does not resemble I'm Only Sleeping (my 2nd favourite Beatles song) at all, Let It Be might not reference it, get over it and yes of course Lennon invented circular glasses, what an idiot I've been... and No ES-355 is quite different in colouration (Cherry Casinos are EXTREMELY rare) and body to an Epiphone Casino
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Do you really want to get into whether Whatever ripped off How Sweet to be an Idiot with me? Because I for one would rather not. No, it's not a Beatles song, but that doesn't mean it's not stolen. And as I said, it might just be me that thinks it sounds like I'm Only Sleeping. No Lennon didn't invent circular glasses or colored ones but Liam has modeled his look after Lennon. I'm basing my reference to the guitar off of an animation of it so maybe the real one looks different.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 There're three more Beatles references I can see in the video: a line ("let it be"), the guitar player playing an Epiphone Casino (preferred instruments of George Harrison and John Lennon in the Rubber Soul/Revolver sessions) and a marching band wearing odd colors (pink and blue, the same as Ringo and Paul in Sgt. Pepper). Other than that the chord progression is pretty simple and it's relatively unoffensive. Probably the most original I've heard so far, but not amazing.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Do you not understand that you are going to see and hear what you want to? Your claim is that ANYONE using a backwards guitar solo is wanting to be the Beatles, please I can think of a huge number of bands who have used the technique, hats off for them for inventing it but they haven't copyrighted it, So anyone saying Let it Be is obviously referring to the Beatles? No... The title character is clearly Liam with his trademark look and swagger, it's not my fault you see Lennon
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 NOT ALL BACKWARDS GUITAR SOLOS ARE TRYING TO BE THE BEATLES, of course, but in this case, THE MELODY RESEMBLES THAT OF I'M ONLY SLEEPING. NOT EVERYONE SAYING "LET IT BE" IS REFERENCING THE BEATLES, of COURSE, but IN THIS CASE, knowing Oasis and their seeming goal to reference the Beatles as much as possible, IT'S PROBABLY A REFERENCE. As for Liam looking like Lennon, OF COURSE HE DOES.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Since the first Oasis video I saw (Don't Look Back in Anger) I have thought this, and you can't possibly say that someone with colored, circular glasses and Lennon-esque hair ISN'T TRYING TO BE LENNON. One or the other on its own? No, probably not. Both together? YES, PROBABLY SO.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Your Epiphone Casino reference is LAUGHABLE, A) It's not an Epiphone Casino, it's a Gibson 355, Gallaghers main guitar so you're wrong there, Gallagher has nearly never used a Casino, plus the notion a band is trying to be a band because of a guitar is stupid, we may aswell claim he's trying to be Chuck Berry.. Plus George and John were not the first to use a Casino at all, Keith Richards, Brian Jones and Dave Davies all used a Casino before them...
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Well I'm sorry for not knowing every single model of guitar ever made. It has the same design and coloration as an Epiphone Casino, particularly those used by Lennon and Harrison. And of course they weren't the FIRST to use them, you'd have to be a moron to think that. But, once again, KNOWING OASIS, it might've been bought as wanting to have a similar guitar. MIGHT'VE. I'm not saying if definitely was.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz And Noel uses a Cherry 355 because seeing The Smiths (and specifically Johnny Marr) on Top of the Pops (watch What Difference Does It Make) had a HUGE effect on him but no one recognises there multitudes of influences (like every band has influences even The Beatles, maybe you should look into what band they, according to your standards would have "ripped off")
And you know what, it is just you, you're so desperately grasping at straws it is unbelievable, sort it out
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Of course Oasis was inspired by many bands, only tribute bands have just one inspiration. The Beatles were inspired by Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and numerous female singing groups of the time. I'm sorry I misidentified Noel's guitar. As I said, I've not memorized every single brand of guitar ever made. I happen to own a 355 though so honestly I am surprised I've made that mistake.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Plus John didn't use his until the Revolver sessions, plus it was McCartney who actually first used one... Still after the other players I mentioned, are you going to claim Paul Weller, Daniel Kessler, The Edge and Ed O'Brien all want to be George or Lennon aswell? How much do you want to grasp at straws, you are seeing what you want to see, you just must be Beatles mad to see and hear them so much, try listening to some other music...
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Wait, it's not the lead singer that looks like Lennon. In the "performance" section he sits off to the side with a tambourine, though he's featured prominently in the scenes where they are walking. Maybe it is supposed to be Lennon? Also, there's a section that sounds vaguely like the backwards guitar solo in I'm Only Sleeping, though it could just be me.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Oh and while you were spotting all these hugely insignificant supposed references (also shall we mention that Liam and Noel had nothing to do with the creation of the video and it was made ten years after the title track was released?) did you actually bother to listen to the song? Because it's undeniably a cracker if you actually gave it a chance :)
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 I don't care if they didn't make it. The Beatles didn't make the Free as a Bird video. And as should be obvious, I listened to the music as well. Actually, I listened to it once without even watching the video and heard the musical parts I've referenced here, and then watched the video and mentioned the visual parts. And I'm sorry, but I'd have to be one to deny that it's a "cracker".
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 By the way, you did notice that in reference to the backwards guitar solo, I said: "Also, there's a section that sounds vaguely like the backwards guitar solo in I'm Only Sleeping, THOUGH IT COULD JUST BE ME." I wasn't saying it definitely was, once again, but instead saying it POSSIBLY COULD BE.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz To finish, Oasis have undoubtedly been influenced by The Beatles, considering they're the most influential band ever, there has been multitudes of bands that have been influenced by them, however Oasis were just as much influenced by The Smiths, Stone Roses, T-Rex, The Kinks, Rolling Stones, The Jam, Sex Pistols, Slade, Led Zep, the list goes on
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@joethulhuz To a disenchanted few who haven't listened to them properly, they will be remembered as "Beatle rip offs"
To the rest of us, they will be remembered as one of the greatest, up there side by side with the Beatles
Renegademaster15 1 year ago 36
@Renegademaster15 I've listened to a lot of Oasis, as I've said before, and I've really tried to like them, but there's a difference between inspiration and ripping off, as I'm sure you understand. You see it as inspiration and I see it as rip off. Let's leave it at that, shall we? And even besides, Oasis will never, ever get anywhere near the Beatles, in popularity or talent. That's why I knew who the Beatles were since I was six and only learned of Oasis last year.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz You only learned of Oasis last year? Where the hell do you live really ? And yes I do understand the difference, you clearly don't, end of the day, I'm a huge Oasis fan, and have listened to everything they've ever produced, you haven't even bothered listening to their best work, you don't have a right to judge, just stop arguing because you are wrong, and yes believe it or not they were near them in popularity definitely, one of the biggest bands here ever
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Name their best song. The single best song that Oasis has ever produced. Because other than that you can't prove I haven't listened to their best work. Being American doesn't change anything. Yes I was here in the late 90s (though I was only 10) and I don't remember them at all. Then again, I wasn't very much into music outside of film scores at the time so maybe I just didn't pay attention.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz Ah I've just checked, you're American, I don't need to be arguing with you, The Americans never understood Oasis, I keep mentioning bands and you've probably never even heard of them, my favourite band are the Smiths, bet you don't even have a clue who they are, I don't need to argue with you anymore, you don't have a clue, you weren't here in the late 90's to see how big Oasis were, it was like the Second Coming of The Beatles
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Attacking someone's nationality makes you look less than intelligent, especially when dealing with subjective matters. Just because someone does not share your opinion, insulting an entire nation is uncalled for. I am American, and like many, I like some Oasis.
psychgirl07 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Saying I am wrong looses even more credibility from you. Neither of us is wrong... It's an opinion. People disagree over opinions. Also, "The Americans never understood Oasis" is not a legitimate argument. Does that mean I didn't understand the Beatles, the Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd, as well as all the other great English bands? And yes, actually, I do know who the Smiths are. Not a huge fan, in fact, I don't even own any of their music, but I know who they are.
joethulhuz 1 year ago
@joethulhuz To be perfectly honest you had no credibility in my eyes the minute you claimed Oasis were a Beatles rip off
That isn't an opinion, you are relaying that as a statement of fact, a fact which I think is wrong
And I know you haven't listened to their albums in their entirety so you haven't listened to their best work have you? If I named what I thought was Oasis's best song then it'd just be me saying what's my favourite, but it's Live Forever if you're curious
Renegademaster15 1 year ago
@Renegademaster15 Unfortunately what lost credibility for me in your eyes is only truth.
A fact, which it is your opinion that it is wrong.
I said before, I'm not going to buy an album and I'm not going to scour YouTube to listen to the album in correct order.
From comments on the video it seems there is a general consensus that Live Forever is their best song. I'm listening to it now and so far it's not impressed me though I don't see any parts that are stolen.
