  • What a great man and what a great loss that hes doing comedy for other folks now....

  • cocaine buddys .... and several substances alike . we like

  • Dear Cameraman: No need to Scorcese this shit. Just set up the tripod, turn on the camera and don't turn it off until you hear, "Okay, wow, it's been 2 hours already. Thanks for the interview. See you later."

  • @sc4433a Yeah, and they all go to Hamilton Square Baptist. Small crowd, there.

  • @sc4433a Yeah. Walnut Creek is Jesusland compared with the very cool and literate San Francisco. It may be a suburb, but it sure as hell isn't SF.

  • @antispamdinista you mean inbred disgusting faggot Sf

  • What is this new kind of comedy!? hahaha

  • I love Kevins reaction at 1:47.

  • This looks like the place where Bill had his Hitler rant!!

  • Thank you for posting these!! Truly....

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • why would you dislike this? You ussually don't just click and stumble upon Bill Hicks. Don't watch it you fucking retards

  • such a fucking eighties guy in the blue jacket :D

  • @skks666 that's Bill's friend, Dwight Slade

  • @skks666 that interview was done in 1993 or 1994, it was eighties hangover

  • gotta love the camera work

  • I bet that guy who "took the heat" for Bill remembers that story to this day.

  • Does anyone know which year this interview is from?

  • LOL they thought he punched her! ROFL

  • bill looks like shit, was this after he got sick? still extremely smart and funny.

  • honestly, who hasn't wanted to smack the shit out of women who yammer during movies, concerts and comedy shows.

  • what's with the camera guy?

  • "he beats women... What is this new kind of comedy" fuck.. his intervies are so fun to listen to..

  • WHO WANTED THIS NEW F@*KING FORMAT???

  • yea i noticed that too.

  • Is this the same venue where he went off on the drunk girl and the guy who said "freebird'? Looks a lot like that stage, but I could be wrong.

  • @allthatisandeverwas yea it is haha

  • What's even odder is the interviewer, Kevin Matthews, is credited with having invented the whole "play Freebird!" joke.

  • @zacheh How ironic hahahaha.

  • @allthatisandeverwas Yeh I think it is. Nice to see it from a different angle

  • lmfao XD

  • RIP Bill ... One of the most insightful comedians ever.

  • "Yeah, he hit her, but he's got some clever stuuuuff."

    lol

  • hahaha that is amazing!

  • that guy made Bill laugh with the shoot em in the face joke. lol

    cool

  • @firstlk420 Can you imagine how awesome it would be to make Bill Hicks laugh? It'd be like saving Jesus from Hell or George Bush from himself.

  • You mean saving George Bush from Hell. Which would not be that rewarding.

  • @Metzae I was just gonna hit the thumbs up button, but I thought I'd verbalize instead so here 'goes: Thumbs Up! Great comment.

  • lol wat a weird ending

  • This so sad. The girls of Walnut Creek will do

    anything to get a laugh

  • Is that Dwight Slade at the end in the windbreaker?

  • Sure is!

  • So it takes a humorist to speak the truth? Are we back to the days when only the court jester dared to say what everyone, deep in their hearts, was thinking?

  • Pretty much, look at the Daily Show and Colbert today, they cover more ground in a 6 minute segment than any of the fluffed propagarbage whorked out by any of the cable news shows.

Hicks was a little different though, he got right in your face and rammed his point home...nobody can touch him

  • That is so true... They really do cover some great stuff masked in comedy that you wouldn't see anywhere else on TV.. shame most people just take it as JUST a joke.

  • @Frankenpalin Man, how could you ever compare Hicks to hacks like Stewart and Colbert? Those two are nothing but corporate, mainstream media puppets.

  • @VeteranzDay You need to see my quote in context with the conversation I was having about how, when the mainstream media completely fails a society, only the jesters can even remotely speak truth to power.

  • @Frankenpalin Except for George Carlin. Or Lewis Black. Or Bill Maher.

    Or Richard Dawkins.

  • @Gyohdon Richard Dawkins? lolz

  • Imagine getting high with Hicks... It would redefine your defintion of "nice experience".

  • I had a jacket just like that in the 90's. Of course I was a kid living in Canada... lol

  • haha i had a coat like that as a kid in england in the 90s too...

  • that guys windbreaker at the end is pretty fucking sweet.

  • I saw it aswell. kinda hurt my head.

  • that jacket after 3:34 is epic...god bless the 90's!

  • Fuckowth

  • What was this interview filmed for? I don't remember Bill Hicks ever being on Kevin Matthews show, though I supposed I could have missed it. Kevin Matthews was always funny on Chicago radio, and Bill Hicks of course is one of the best damn comedians ever! This is a great interview, thanks for posting it!

  • The guy inteviewing bill looks and sounds alot like some NYC public access host also on YT, hes doing some call in talkshow and every other call is someone saying fuck you, or I fucked your mother. Does anyone know what Im talking about?

  • You mean Ken Sander?

  • Yeah! Thats his name! Speak Out or something was the name of the show

  • Yeah, I recall the clip. I see where you're coming from, but the guy in this clip (Matthews) has got a "bigger head"; wider (there's a clear distinction between the width of their respective cheeks and jaws, and how those shapes are related), if I remember it right.

In addition (sorry), Matthews voice has got a bass foundation that is not only rare but so far from the "tv prank call show host" that I c a n't see how you would think that they're particularly alike.

    Both on nice clips, though.

  • well then.. i guess that settles that... thanks bud

  • Edit: Sander actually have got the capability to speak "like" Matthews, only he often plays away from that, while Matthews plays to it.

  • i think the first caller made a very valid point.....fuck u ya cocksucker

  • All four parts were an interesting watch, cheers for upload. I liked the raw unfinished feel to it, made it feel alot more personal.

  • thanks zacheh for these.

  • whenever comedians interview each other its always just 2 guys throwing material back and forth, and never any actual interviewing

  • The interviewer looks German. Dunno why I'm sharing this but hey...

  • Well your name makes you look like a fucktard

  • A fucktard lol what is that! True his name is retarded, but fucktard lol I have to remember that.

  • A fucktard is a fucking retard.

  • Your first post on this discussion was a xenophobic attack on myself and the South. Thats what people call a STEREOTYPE!!!!! BTW, yours of me was totally inaccurate as well, so there you go.

Also, the use of the word logorrhea is proof that you suffer from the exact thing you accuse me of having. I also think you suffer from blantant "assholism", but thats obvious to alot of folks on Youtube, judging from other comments you/ve made on here.

    Yer a TROLL, thats obvious!!!

  • Also, try actually LISTENING to the words of Patterson Hood and you might see that your thoughts and words about the South and its people are inaccurate, ignorant, and hurtful to many.

As far as you hoping myself and folks like me who point out xenophobia of the South going away, we feel the same about the ignorant pricks like yourself that keep the hatred alive!!!

Maybe YOU"LL just shut up and go away!!!

  • "And you respond with frothing homophobia."

Sounds like you took offence to me. And, I do know what those words mean, it is you who apparently do not.

Do you know the meaning of the word "troll"???

Look, lets just leave it at you are an ignorant xenophobic prick that hates the South. And you can use whatever stereotype you want to describe me.

    Will that satisfy you, chimpy??

  • Bill would be the best drinking friend ever!

  • I also see that you are from Canada, so WTF do you know about self hating Southerners like Hicks???

I suppose you would have rather me used the word "racist" or something like that??

Sorry I used a word that offended you, and being the "mature, intelligent, adult" that you try and put yourself up as, it caused you to resort to childish insults and name calling, but being from Canada, you have no idea what I am even talking about!!

Maybe you too are xenophobic of the South???

  • Don't forget that Bill is being asked about those extreme situations and not about the vast majority of nights when artist and audience "cook" together.

  • Yeah, but he and alot of other "entertainers and commentarians" tend to exclusively use exaggerated Southern accents when impersonating stupid people. Imagine the outcry if instead of Southern accents they used exaggerated black or ghetto accents!!!!

  • Stop being dumbfuck NASCAR-lovin' hicks, then.

  • Well, I'm not a big NASCAR fan, but if you wanna deal in stereotypes, then you stop being a cocksucking, Yankee faggot and maybe we can change a little for you, asshole!!!!

  • Clearly, you're a Faulkner reader.

  • I am. And Burroughs, Thompson, Kerouac, Bukowski, and alot of others that might surpise a xenophobe like you. What's your point?? BTW, have you ever really listened to Patterson Hood?

  • I've listened to, written about, and interviewed Patterson Hood. I happen to think his band is easily one of the best rock 'n' roll outfits I've ever heard.

It's so easy to wind you up. And you respond with frothing homophobia. I don't think irony is an exclusively Yankee thing, so pick up on it.

  • I agree about Patterson. In fact, I just picked up the new Booker T cd about an hour ago and I love it. The Truckers backing him up is a great mix.

I responded to your stereotype of Southern people with a common stereotype of Northern people. If it offended you, then maybe you shouldn't use stereotypes yourself. You know, whats good for the goose and all.

I think its IRONIC (and very hypocritical) that someone who deals in stereotypes gets so easily offended when one is thrown back at them!!

  • Love ALL the People. Bill had a Love/Hate relationship with the south, he loved it enough to see its flaws but still went there to Die. A lot of posters on here obviously dont get the message. Love over Hate and Fear. Respect uploader, all 4 of these are new to me and Great.

  • Dixie, how could Hicks be xenophobic about the Southern United States when he was born in Georgia, and raised in Alabama and Texas?

  • EuchridEucrow1,

There are PLENTY of "Southern apologists" who are ashamed that they come from the South, and feel that knocking it or ridiculing it somehow will ingratiate them to those not from there.

If Hicks had REALLY understood the South and the way its people, both black and white, interacted with one another on a day to day basis, without outside interpretations, he would have NEVER stereotyped Southern folks as ignorant morons the way he and alot of others frequently did and do

  • EuchridEucrow1,

I won't insult you by changing yer name to try and put you down the way you did me. I'll leave that to boorish, effite pricks!!!

Real Southen people WERE APPARENTLY FOREIGN to Hicks, or he would not have insulted them constantly, so calling him a xenophobe does fit him. Sorry the word and my use of it offends you, but it does fit his attitude towards Southeners, whether he was from there or not.

But, so I dont hurt yer feelings, what word would you rather I use??

  • walnut creek lol i know where that is

  • Bill was a great entertainer and a comedic genius.

  • thank you so much for posting it

  • Well, maybe he should. Alot of people in so called entertaiment roles do it, and it is offensive to a whole lot of people. I mean, if everytime he was imitating stupid people he used a black or ghetto "accent" if you will, there would be extreme outrage, but since its just Southern folks, its dismissed. Just as you dismissed it.

A little consistency on not offending people would be nice is all!!!

  • What would you him rather do, use a different accent every time he cracked a joke about stupid people? Not only would that sound stupid (constantly doing different accents), it'd also be alot of uneccessary work.

Besides, like Aethereon said, he's from Texas.

  • Look, I understand where hes from and his accent. What I am opposed to, and not just him, but alot of other entertainers and commentarians is the exaggerated, pronounced Southern accents that they use whenever they are referring to stupid actions or people. It is obvious and has been for years. Denying it is only saying its ok to label and associate Southern folks with bad or idiotic behaviour, when such behaviours are more universal. I mean, its an "accepted" stereotype that offends me.

  • I don't think he cared who he offended, he was trying to be funny. If he'd used a San Francisco accent then it probably wouldn't have been as funny, and seeing as he was a comedian then that's probably why he did it this way.

  • I'm sure he didnt, but he'd be one of the first people that would condemn a Southern comic if they used a black or gay accent in a joke refferin them as stupid. There is a double standard on who we can offend in this country. Unfortunately, for me, people seem to think that the group I belong to is ok to offend. I on the other hand, find it offensive and will say so.

  • hes not trying to be rascist, southern people for the most part are inbread idiots. People as a whole aswell are a bunch of idiots. Its called a joke or an Eggasgeration in comedy to make it funny. If he didnt use any accent or manipulate his voice than he would be lacking certain colors of his artistic pallet that is comedy. I'm sorry his particular wit didn't catch to you, its ok though, even if you don't see it now you will understand after you die.

  • "southern people for the most part are inbread idiots"

Congratulations, asshole, your xenophobic statement just shows that its dumb fucks like you that are part of the very problem I am addressing.

I mean, doesnt it bother you when people stereotype gays like you as a bunch of "sick, AIDS ridden, fags"?? Doesnt it hurt your feelings when people make fun of YOUR sexual preferences??

Lucky for you, folks will defend your lifestyle? I just want equal treatment for Southerners!!

    Have a good'un!!

  • dixieken....suck Satan's cock.

  • m2frogger,

Nah, thats ok. I wouldn't want to interupt yer only other hobby besides ghost hunting, injecting idiotic comments into others converstations and debates, and being a basic, all around, run of the mill, prick, so I'll just let you keep on sucking Satans cock yerself. You seem to be enjoying it so much!!!

    Stupid prick!!!

  • I'm the stupid prick? Were you made with a weak sperm? For instance..was your father masturbating, and your mum just so happened to sit down at the last minute?

  • ROFLMAO!!!

And on your homepage you claim to be a "straight A student", and crude insults are the best you can come up with?? Please!!!!

I do believe you are a dumbassed Yankee from NYC, because as soon as you dickheads get whipped mentally, you resort to insulting peoples mothers and fathers!!! Typical last resort of a limp dicked asshole. Can't deal with the person they are actually arguing with.

Go away, little boy. You lost this one!!!!

  • An if you were intelligent you'd know crude insult's don't mean anything,to having good grades.

Then you throw a dick joke at me...wow I couldn't of thought at that at the rate I was going aye.

  • Um, I was talking about predjudice against Southern folks in entertainment and media.

It was you that brought up dicks and sucking them.

You're not a very well versed, intelligent person, are you??

You're more the sad, frustrated little troll!!!

    I pity you!!

  • Dixieken,

I'm not sure if you really understand the point Hicks is getting at... the things you state are exactly the things he hated. He's using the accent to characterise the archetypal person that he is against. He wasn't so much a comedian more of a social commentator with accute observations of the idocies that occur in society... He was naturally funny in the way pointed these things out. A very intelligent man!

  • I do understand Hicks. In fact, I agree with alot of his social commentary. What I am opposed to is the stereotype, throughout the entertainment industry, that all Southerners are stupid, inbred morons.

Hicks woul've been one of the first folks to scream about say Jay Hickman, doing a joke about a drug deal or a rape in a black, hip hop, dialect.

I am just offended that stereotyping Southerners(particularly whites) is acceptable, but other groups are taboo and hands off!!

  • very good point about southerners being stereotyped but other groups are hands off.society just shifts its stereotypes in the direction the tube is telling them to

  • I like Hicks, but even when he talks about dumbasses in San Francisco, he likes to do them in a Southern accent. I suppose like most "enlightened intelectuals" he thought that all Southern folks were dumb inbred morons. Kinda funny that he would be so xenophobic, yet preach tolerance, equality, etc.

Guess its just more convenient to play "dumb" or "racist" with a Southern accent.

I expected more from Mr. Hicks.

    Sad!!!

  • Or maybe he doesn't care about how accurate his accent impressions are.

Stop reading into things so much.

  • Agreed. It should be kept in mind that the guy was born in Georgia and raised in Texas. Being thoughtfully intelligent yields good grammar, articulate speech, etc... you can see Bill's thoughtful and thoughtless intelligence in his act - thoughtful dialogue : proper speech; cracking jokes and poking fun : the hick in him comes out. (probably something he doesn't like about himself)

It's all good fun, no worries.

  • "Yeah he hit her, but he's got some clever stuff!"... I nearly lost my shit there xD

  • Great stories. They all look stoned at the end. lol

  • Good interviewer!

  • That guy at the end on the right has some seriously bad fashion sense, like the worst shell suit I've ever seen LOL!

  • Bill Hicks' comedy is unparalleled, and hearing his stories is fascinating. Kudos for posting these!

  • Why is he giving an interview to Cory Haim?

  • thanx for puttin these clips up man.

  • Re: the camerwork. Kevin Matthews was (is?) a radio personality in Chicago. He had a 3 hour show every weekday afternoon, so this may have been primarily made for radio with video for posterity.

  • Thankfully they did, otherwise I'd be staring at an empty screen...

  • kinda like staring at an empty stage huh?

  • Agree with what someone put about him being a great story teller. Even if the interviewer is annoying. Recalls John Lennon. Also makes me wonder about his Southern-ness; he seems like a regular man hanging out recounting tales in the pub

  • Just read your post and had to reply.

Indeed there is somethin' "Lennon-ess" about him, if you will. As for Bill's Southern-ness, that is the main interesting point you made.

Like him I gew up behind the Mason Dixon Line, and have been told I got an accent/mid twang, which I'm sure I do and am self-loathing about. I find many soul-crushing types filled with ignorance down here, and oddly enough, so genuine sweet natured, overly kind people. It's a real interesting mixed bag down here ...

  • Bill Hicks must be the equal of the handful of the best. This clip shows how natural a story teller he is: flawless arrangement in the telling, even though it appears simple; he puts such vivid images in the mind - remarkable man.

  • I have nothing to say about Bill Hicks. He was a genious who was ahead of his time. He was misunderstood by many but those who did get his shit learn from the man. He's a good guy and I hope he has a venue near the Pearly Gates.

  • How was he 'ahead of his time'? Most people are sheep, Bill was aware. Period.

  • yeah he was aware, but it wasn't what put him ahead of other comics. hicks voiced his own opinion on stage, which put him quite through some hassle as a result, while other comics invented characters and that they could blame if some material caused an outrage. he also broke quite a few taboos and faced the corporate media in a way that other young comics at that time, like seinfeld, didn't even dare in their dreams. actually, quite a few comics speak about that in a documentary on his life

  • Yes, I've seen it. I think you're right, though. And I think Bill's (spiritual) AWARE-ness might have played a role in that from an early age.

  • it certainly did. thank god he had the personality to deliver this deadly combination of humour :)

  • You said you had nothing to say about Bill Hicks, and yet..

    :)

  • The cameraman is drunk.

  • It's probably not the cameraman doing it, it's probably someone else from the crew. You can hear them discussing loading the camera etc at the start of the clip, indicating they are between takes. I think what happened here was Bill had an additional story but they weren't ready to shoot, so somebody shot it from a camera that had been set up for a wide shot etc and did the best they could, just so they had some footage of the additional story. No alcohol needed.

  • I thought GG Allin was the GG Allin of comedy... You mean he was serious?! Jesus Christ...

  • Thanks for posting this :)

  • the man can tell a story

  • The man just happens to be one of the best comedians who ever lived

  • the grand poobah.

    bless ur hart man.

  • LOL Don't say in SF. There's a BIG fucking difference between Walnut Creek and San Francisco, regardless of how close they are.

  • I thought Id seen all the Hicks stuff, thanks for posting

  • That sh** was hilarious. We got gyped, wheres the guy that beats women?

  • Thanks

  • Thank you very much for uploading this!

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • gah, what an awesome guy. He had such a great smile too.

  • hahaha that totally sounds like walnut creek

  • Count this interview as a bad gig. What a shithouse operation they are running there. The fucking camara guy is rapping with the interviewer in the middle of it. WTF

  • What? It's not a bad interview at all. The sound and picture are clear. They're relaxed. I mean, I fail to see how the interview sucks.

  • Am I seeing things or at the very end of this video, is that Dwight Slade (Bill Hicks childhood friend)in the blue jacket? Certainly looks like him. Check Dwight's stuff out too by the way. I saw his show at the Glasgow Comedy Festival recently and it was hilarious!

  • that joke doesn't work if the footage was filmed in the 80's.

  • lol pwnd!

  • what a dumbass

  • see the thing is when the 80's called and wanted thier jacket back? it WAS the 80's...you douchebag.

  • Angry much?

  • WTF Bills legend still lives even through dumbasses like you.

  • Why would it not?

  • I'm wondering what kind of interview this is? Is it one that was filmed but the interview wasn't good enough to screen? Because the interviewer isn't asking many questions, or very good questions, and Bill kind of just has to keep the interview going by himself. Bill still says interesting stuff though, he keeps it going pretty good.

  • Awesome stuff, thanks for posting! He'll live on in his fans forever.

  • hahahaha...yea he hit her but he's got some clever stuff!

  • Never seen this one thanks for sharing it

  • "he's beating women....alright!" haha

  • thanks man, these are great.

  • Thanks for the vid, I wish I knew of Bill Hicks earlier.

  • It's not too late. Anyone can be introduced to Bill Hicks, all you need is an open mind and sides to split!

  • I just recently stumbled upon Bill's stuff and now after watching hours of him, he is one of my new heroes.

  • I can't thank you enough for posting all these videos. Even though it's raw footage that apparently never made it into an official release and well over a decade old (maybe even closer to 2 decades), it's still a tremendous interview with a tremendous man. I have to ask though: Where did you find this stuff?

  • Great interview. ^_^

  • Thank you for this video. He was so great... His ideas still so relavents
