The ink in stamped onto the paper, similar to how a silicon substrate is made. The ink doesn't need to dry like standard inkjet printers. They use MEMS processes in the printer to manufacture the nozzle heads and hence the need for smear is not an issue.
It is still too expensive to manufacture and is not commercially viable to sell. The cost of making the inkjet heads alone could be a couple thousand dollars depending on its precision.
I'd like to hear more re: environmental issues. Inkjet uses significantly less energy to print a page than Laser. So it may be that typical implementations of Inkjet technology don't for intance employ high capacity cartridges, etc, but I'm wondering what at a fundamental level is "not environmentally friendly".
These are real products. The first one released is the label printer. The way the printers can print that fast is the printhead is the length of the printer. The head is stationary and does not need to move left to right like a normal inkjet printer. With multiple heads the length of whatever you are printing, you just need to time the feeding mechanism to the print speed.

hey smart guy, look at the compact model...the last edge of the paper once released from the roller falls unnaturally quickly to the tray. That would either happen if gravity if much stronger that the usual and hence is dropping down quicker or the speed of the video is fast. You tell me...
Are you sure it's not just feeding something that was already printed, and is hidden behind/within (like..on the spool)? The "registration" of the paper as it streamed out really didn't look accurate enough for what they're implying.
Finally I can print out my 12 foot long mosaics of a building in mere seconds and have lots of time left to question why I'm actually printing the 12 foot long mosaic of a building.
Now that's what I'm talking about! Because I've been to Home Depot they don't have "Soothing Rim Job Scenes" that's a custom job. Would normally cost a FORTUNE!
nice - reminds me of the linx 4000 i used to service. Those charged droplets are so precise and fast. We were putting datecodes on soft fast you almost couldn't see the bottles on the conveyor.
great.. we finally get a decent printer technology when paper if almost obsolete

Obviously fake. The ink wouldn't dry as fast, so it would smear all over the sheet.

it would be funny if in all of the cases they just put in paper with stuff already printed on.
If it is real then wow, cause normal printers are amazing enough.
But I much much prefer high quality and accuracy of print over the speed
neonDog 3 years ago
This is real. The only problem will be that these printers will cost a fortune.

if you look at this video very closely the end scene is actually the give away. The clock has clearly been composited as well as the woman.
Look closely you will see it.
