Whaaa!!! I totally loved this video! So smart and well done!
I only understand a few words but I think I catch the sense of it all.
I really enjoyed the music too (fan of Der Plan, Andreas Dorau and many NDW songs) but I'd like to know who made the video. Thanx to have posted it (and sorry for my bad English)
The translation of klippspringer is perfect, but I want to add something how the song is meaned by the band.
They want to say that, when financial system crashes, people who only consumed and have no valuables or good friends "we didnt preserve anything" tomorow will be swept away which means they will die.
"auf die hohe Kante legen" figurative means to put something on an high edge. it is never used figurative but only to say: to put something out of reach and use only for worse times.
but the title of this song (hohe kante) has this double meaning, if it only stands for itself.
@klippspringer the phrase originates from medieval times in which the owner of a property would put his savings on the "hohe kante" of his bed, the highest part of the bed's frame, keeping it close to him while sleeping. It was originally meant to be a hiding spot for all things valuable to prevent servants/other people in the house from stealing it, later it became an expression meaning money one would save for harder times. Somewhat like the "Notgroschen"
Great mix of ingredients: happy dancable tune set to images of very superficial ads and lyrics about saving money that can now only be interpreted in a non materialistic way to make sense of it all. Very smart!
And the tune will be haunting me for days to come.
My Generation. ^^
