john woo should stick to his hollywood action flicks don't ever try to do a chinese historical movie cos he suck big time... maybe some westerners will enjoy this but for any chinese who loves their history this is a big pile of shit, bad casting(except for caocao), shit dialogue, over the top kung fu, pretty faces who cant act! this is an insult to chinese audience. this movie will come and go like a stench, but mainland chinese tv series 3 kingdoms will live forever cos its a classic!

If you want to get the historically correct version of the story, you will probably be very disappointed because most of the Sanguo films and TV series these days are based on Luo Guanzhong's novel instead of the historical record, and the novel is based on traditional Chinese dramas and folklores about the historical event. Besides the casting may not be that good, but how do you know the dialogue and the players suck when it is still not shown in theatres?

... What I mean is, its saying that the victory of the shu/wu forces at the red cliff battle foreshadowed their defeat overall to wei/jin? That would not make sense...

I hope the movie/director tries to stick to the historical information as much as possible. Instead of making the overall ending all happy and sh*t. This aint no walt disney kid's story

no, the statement holds pretty well. Chi Bi basically solidified the states of Wu/Shu. Had they lost that particular battle, Wei would have likely conquered them easily. The difference between a period of something like 70 years. (Chi Bi, I think, early 200s; Wu fell some time around 280)

It didn't change it in the sense that the oft-portrayed 'good guys' (Shu) won, but the fact that the states of Shu and Wu were allowed to continue their conflict had its effects on Chinese history.

More than just the SHu Wu division, it also helped solidify the eventual divisions that China would retain throughout most of it's Dynastic History, where you often would see War between Northern Kingdoms and Southern Kingdoms, all the way until the Ming.
