Rick Steves-making cream cheese look wild for over fifty years! Rick Steves-for when Rick Abrams is just too edgy. Rick Steves-raking in the dough but preaching publlic subsidies for over 15 years. If this is the face of Mainline Protestantism, it deserves to continue shrinking away to nothing.
Rick Steves-helping Ole and Lena get around for over 20 years! What's really funny/hypocritical is that his shows promote his tours and videos and books-on public TV. Which means he has a business subsidized by the taxpayer. I can understand his being a cannabis activist-I'd be stoned most of my life if I were this boring. Another example of the vapid blandness of mainline Protestantism. No wonder his church remains 97% white.
Disappointing; Rick Steve believes in 'Social Justice'? Socialism! When will these fanatics realise that we can't afford save the world? So, the answer from him is to lower our standard of living so we will all be on the same level as the third world. Then what, will that make him FEEL better? :(
If travelshows you ANYTHING regarding religion and spirituality, it's that the proliferation of gods and beliefs all over the world is undeniable evidence that it's a man-made thing. Stepping outside of your box, the comfort zone you grew up in is a magnificent first step to realizing that superstition exists everywhere, and there's no justification for YOUR regional god, any more than there's a reason to believe OTHER regional gods.
Is Rick Steves gay, despite his marrage? Amoung other things, it was strange how much time he spent at Turkish baths in his "Turkey" episodes of the "Rick Steves' Europe" video series. Such baths traditionally housed young men or boys (often slaves) engaged as sex workers, paid according to sexual practices and how many times they could bring customers to orgasm. Today, the slave aspect has mostly disappeared, but these baths still serve as a focal point for homosexual prostitution.
@stewartx5 - Not to mention the DVD extras titled: "Rick Steves, Through The Back Door." I almost fell off the couch when I first saw that on my screen.
@SuperNaturalImagesBC A lot of Americans unfortunately don't travel because of lack of money, and those with enough to travel feel they have much to see in the States. While I understand that, I think it's good to visit both different states, but also travel to other countries.
Isn't that the point?! What good are you as a cristian, an ambasitor of Christ, if you only associate with christians? How can you spread the Truth without meeting non christians?
something tells me that the people ripping on rick steves here are all the same person... also, "hydrogeneconomy" feels that because rick didn't include every desperate third world situation in his 12 minute clip that he is an ignorant blowhard who doesn't understand what he preaches. At least not as much as some fat tubby asshole hiding behind flawed rhetoric and a keyboard.
I've huge respect for his dedication, talent, contributions, passion, etc. but it reeks of white man's guilt, like bill gates, warren buffett, angelina jolie, et al..he stated $2 a day: I recommend anywhere in siberia; it's $1 a day..better yet go in winter, and you'll never need to go anywhere else to develop that appreciation he mentions. You'll thank all the gods, Jesus Christ, etc. you were born in this country, I even saw an American women start crying when she saw the desperation..
has he been to belarus or ukraine? doubt it..loads of glue sniffing street kids, orphans moved constantly never knowing where the next bed or meal will arise..
I love how people will slap any white person with "white man's guilt" because they're brainwashed by albophobic propaganda and they can't see an individual when they see a white face. grow up.
@hydrogeneconomy I watch his videos, and only seen this one here on YT for the first time which was layered in "White guilt". Most of Rick's videos are Eurocentric, teaching White Americans to learn and visit their ethnic roots. As for White poverty, I cannot agree more. I've been to Russia, Slovakia, and around the Balkans. Of course, the news will never show THAT poverty.

Rick is a diamond in the rough.
If only a quarter of all the politicans out there spoke with as much candor and common sense as Rick does, America would be a much better place.
He is a beacon for human rights and equality, a fearless adventuerer and a relentless activist for good in the world.
That's not so boring for me.
Keep kicking butt Rick!
