  • hi , so high and nigh, stuba dooba dee...

  • Einstein can really get down with some jazz.

  • My college music Professor Dean Froelic, applied at Berklee wasn't accepted, so he went to Julliard instead, hell of a jazz pianist, he must be in his mid 80's by now.

Taught me the finer points of Jazz, and to be a stand person.

  • Great piece of music, intriguing. The drummer is fantastic.

  • Great piece of music, intriguing

  • If I were a young musician even thinking of the jazz genre I'd want to seriously consider the future of the industry ... AND how many jobs and how much money is on offer ... that is UNLESS mum and dad can support you while you tour the world with your own band

  • berklee takes a lot of people, but you need to be good to graduate. and some legit jazz players as well as other styles of players have come out of there

  • This is a killing chart.

  • This sounds like film music for big band. Lots of japanese players in this group. Good ones too. Not too sure where these players will play when they graduate but this stuff is great in college. Can't see it begin too accepted at your local pub though.

  • race doesnt shouldnt matter in music man! i understand what your saying, but i just wish it werent true

  • @mvialva I didn't mean anything by it,

except that its great to see people from all

over the world studying jazz. Unfortunately,

jazz is generally more accepted outside the U.S. than in it.

  • Berklee's a scam

  • how so?

  • Excellente!

  • I'm diggin' the JazzArt by EJ Gold.

  • is this Xenakis?

  • This is good. Rare for Berklee. A few kids from each class are really great. The rest of Berklee is pretty lame. I checked it out.

  • Then... Don't hang around with the shitty ones. I play with people that are way too good for me, they don't care.

  • is berklee as good as its made out to be? its just that ive heard they teach a lot of lower level stuff because half the kids who go aren't that serious...ive also heard that people who go there for jazz end up owned by the competition in nyc...but others tell me its a great school, so i dont know what to think. im positive i want to study music, im just not sure where i should go...could i have some input? thanks =)

  • I went up there to audition about a year ago...

I now attend UNT ( if you know anything about music schools this is supposedly the best) and I have never herd a jazz trio as good as the one from students at berklee.

  • ive heard awesome things about UNT...what are their standards as far as grades? im a sophomore and on average a B- student. so if it demands straight A's im probably out immediately. At the risk of sounding cocky, id say im, at least in comparison to an average guitarist, pretty damn good, and i have a lot of background in theory, its just my grades are nothing special at all...would u say i have much of a chance?

  • yes you have a very good chance. I was a solid c student. If a 69 was failing.. always got a 70. Its a very good school, however since Texas has tons of big schools UNT takes a lot of people.

I did get a good SAT grade by the way.

Most kids who come to UNT all come out sounding the exact same. Thats why I am trying to get to berklee. Here the only thing you do is Jazz. ONLY jazz.

  • yeah, i mean i love jazz, but im a little more interested in funk/fusion and stuff...i have also looked at the "new school" for jazz and purchase college (close to where i live and 5th best jazz program in the country)...i dunno it does seem like all these places have ONLY jazz...which is actually exactly why ive been checking out berklee lately. ive just heard their standards are falling...

  • Ive herd amazing things from them...and as far as technology they are FAR better than any other

  • berklee is a great place to be if your into funk! my friend attended a workshop on it there and he worked with the most amazing people and learned so much! it's def the place to be!

  • Frankly, it depends on what you're into, and how willing you are to take to what you learn. I think we can all agree that Berklee has the most hype, but I personally believe that they have a large number of excellent guitar teachers, and a huge scene for guitarists, which is why I'm there. I don't know your instrument, but man figure out what music you like, and figure out who can teach it. If they work at Berklee, go there and study with them!

  • what a great song & video Pro. Hopkins lol

  • nice... this seems like really deep stuff

    amazing performance

  • Greg Hopkins, Yea! He's the man!

  • it is very hard to get in my boy.

  • Well. It used to be hard to get it. Not really anymore.

I go to school there right now. seems like they don't have AS many restrictions. it just costs a lot more money.

  • dude the accptance rate is 32%, last time i checked that is pretty hard to get in.

  • dude the accptance rate is 32%, last time i checked that is pretty hard to get in.

  • That's pretty high, my high school has a 10% accpetance rate. And we only have 80 kids per grade

  • Heh, I agree, 32% is pretty high. That's like 1 out of 3 people. Mannes has a 15% acceptance rate the last I checked.

  • i believe curtis and colburn are 1% =) i would have to agree... 32% certainly isn't too bad.

  • F'reals???

If Curtis is 1% then I don't think I'm going to get in :( Oh well. At least I have Berklee and Eastman to fall back on.

  • Yea those too schools are ridiculously competitive, some years they don't accept people on particular instruments. But you should definitely try auditioning, I have no idea what you playing level is, so who knows!

  • I've never heard of Eastman as being someone's fallback. Hilarious.

  • Curtis had a 5.8% acceptance rate in 2006. Doesn't mean anyway has any better shot of getting in. It just means that most people aren't dumb enough to think they can get in. Therefore, there are fewer applicants. Juilliard maintains about a 6.5% acceptance rate for similar reasons, although they do accept more students per year, so it is a fair bit easier there than Curtis (it's all relative though). 32% is in the mid-range for US schools.

  • I know them all!!

  • oh god i wanna go to that school

  • Me too :(

  • Don't frown my friend. If you really want to, just do it, take the loan. It will be the time of your life, just dedicate yourself to it and procrastinate. Good luck.

  • Don't you mean "DON'T procrastinate"? :P

  • this is good stuff

  • Another great staple of the BCJO. Well played.

  • Mr Hopkins for sure

  • Greg Hopkins directing I think...played with Mr Rich

  • Great Trumpet playing. Whats your set up?

  • The song is Melancholy Cats, by Toro Dodu. Good writer, great song, killin band.

  • Great stuff, well done.
