It's important to remember that 'good' comedy, like 'good' music, is relative. For example, Howard Stern is considered a comedic god by millions, but I'm not one of them. Comparisons don't serve anyone--it's like comparing blue to green, and trying to determine which is more beautiful, or important, or which best stands the test of time. While there is no doubt that Andrea Martin is one of comedy's great women, she is from an era long past. As well, she never really went on to do anything else notable after SCTV. I mean the only other thing I can think of is her bit part in My Big Fat Greek Wedding ( not a particularly great movie). Tina Fey on the other hand is a brilliant writer who has done far more than just a "few impressions" and writing some "forgettable SNL skits". Have you never heard of 30 Rock or Mean Girls

CO and AM (who both wrote for SCTV) are cited as influences by many of today's comediannes, and opened the door for women like Tina Fey. They helped make SCTV greatly popular, and considered, in many circles, better written/performed than the fledgling SNL (Second City has been around for over 50 yrs, btw). TF is a genius, but that doesn't take a THING away from AM. Don't believe me? Watch more than one 2 minute clip. :)

I met Andrea Martin "Perini Scleroso", about 12 years ago. She's as hilarious, warm and personable, in person, as she was on TV. Where did we meet? On a NYC subway platform! True!

She's an under-rated true talent. I think she's light-years funnier & talented than Tina Fey. Tina Fey just does a few impressions, and wrote some forgettable SNL skits, but she's treated like absolute Hollywood royalty -as if she's the next Lucille Ball. Oh, please! I cannot understand why.
