The two are TOTALLY different. Both are from different companies (DICE and InfinityWard).

The engines are different. Battlefield 3 is running on the revolutionary and totally new Frostbite 2 Engine. Call of Duty is still on their 2005 IW engine. Which is why the graphics are crap.

The games are in no way the same, aside from the fact that they are both FPS's. Battlefield 3 focuses on massive battles and teamwork.
