Hey grnkl115, I'm a fire explorer, we enjoy getting in on the action when we take a shift. I wish I was an LAFD explorer, ha-ha. It would have been so much fun to help on a major structure fire, but, my area is mostly medical or wild land. Us explorers are a great recourse on the fire ground, besides the fact we do it for free, it's great experience, and it gives us that rush, and we're helpful. It's what we'll be doing fore the rest of our lives, and separates firefighter material from non ff's
Explorer running on the fire ground.... a great idea! Pride, passion and enthusiasm are demonstrated by speed and efficiency on the fire ground! Not to mention... if your house was burning down... would you want people to run... or walk... He was providing a service... for free! Thanks to the explorers!
I'm not Disrespecting the explorers, I am an explorer myself for Montebello Fire Department. I was taught that you are not suppose to run on the fireground. A firefighters pace is best. Running can cause an injury to yourself or others.
@grnkl115 Yeah I'm with you on this. I was an explorer too and I was also taught not to run on he fire ground because of injury. I'm not saying what he did was a bad thing, I'm just saying I don't think he should be running on the fire ground.
No offense taken! L.A. City firefighters run on the fire ground all the time.... Speed, consistent with safety. Time is always of the essence. They treat each person, house and business as if it were there own!
The MAIN issue with running is the potential to fall and injure yourself to the point where you are unable to perform your duties.
That's where running becomes an issue.
But running and firefighting have ALWAYS been a married concept.
The turnouts, heavy tools and boots really make running a potentially dangerous proposition.
But is there a SAFE way to run on the fireground?
I do what's comfortable for me.
Can't very well do a carl lewis sprint but i can do a decent jog SAFELY.
