Wow! Today,I attended an estate sale and bought the exact same Sears 2158 cassette recorder.However,W/O box. With some oiling I brought it back to life.Alot of bang for one dollar! Thanks for the vid!
Ricky, ELO were a Sony act so you shouldn't have problems with WMG. Do people actually collect different brands and types of cassette? I think that the Maxell LN was their cheapest grade of tape.
That's good to know. I wasn't sure, and did that just in case. I guess some people do collect tapes, as I remember on the internet something called "Cassette Jam '05", which was a set of pictures all hundreds of different tapes including many European ones like BASF.
The Cassette Jam site appears to be 404 Not Found now. I know that I bought my first cassette, a BASF, in 1971. Wish that I still had it because it came in a protective gray plastic case exactly like a BASF reel to reel.
I've got that same cassette! (and you've mentioned that you have some). Very cool, even though the DC bias is, well, DC bias. It's still nice that it's mint-in-the-box!
I have the same one like that. It's a Maxell LN cassette from about 1979 through 1982. I have only one, but I used to have a lot of Maxell LN tapes many years ago, but I got rid of it. All of these tapes has R&B/soul music recorded off the radio from WBLS and 98.7 Kiss-FM. Dig that Maxell LN tape.
Wow, Mint in the Box! Very nice machine eventhough itz DC bias! I love that song u recorded off the radio and it comes out good too. I even have it on LP too. The song is "Jamie" by Ray Parker Jr (The same guy who sang "Ghostbusters").
Yep! I have that song "Jamie" by Ray Parker Jr. on an original 45, the flipside is "Christmas Time Is Here". I did a vid of that song "Jamie" on my other channel "MagcialWorldofMusic" a few months ago.
Alot of backround noise.

My estimation is that the recorder is from 1980.

I bought a lot of Maxell LN tapes back in the early 80's. They were excellent tape for radio recording.

Cool, original box and everything! awesome.
Cool old recording on that vintage Maxell tape too!
What's the strangest thing you ever found on an old tape? You should make a video of all the crazy cool things you found.

I found a recording, from what I believe, a teenage girl who had a baby, talking to her mom over the phone with an answering machine I got.

I've also found some great stuff on answering machine tapes. The quality on an old AT&T machine was surprisingly good -- maybe even AC bias.

Woah! I saw one at a flea market, but didn't get it, as it had bad belts. Maybe I should get it!

You were a robe and pipe away from looking like hugh hefner in that opening clip in the chair. lol

the 2nd song sounds like ELO possibly, but I can't say for certain :(
I vaguely remember those Maxell cassettes, too, btw.

The song is called "All Over The World", by, you're right, ELO.

"FastphillyCorvette", would love this song, he is a big ELO fan.

Oh yeah, Maxell cassette was made around 1979-1982 so that machine is probably from that time period too.

I have that cassette too, but itz 120mins. It has songs recorded off music choice from the Comcast digital cable that I recorded back in 2003.
