I have a 2007 Macbook and I just bought an external monitor. It works just fine, thanks to your help... BUT the colors are off. The blues are purple and greens are yellowish... Any solutions for this?
I can only see about a half inch column on the left hand side of the screen.
I hooked up an external sony monitor with the plug in the video but the default display setting is extension and I can not see the display settings on my macbook to change it.
Do you know of anyway I could go about getting the system preferences window or display settings on my external monitor with a hot key or any other way without randomly clicking on the screen and dragging?
Good video and it's simple to understand, i do have a 'Blackbook' and I am trying to do the same to view documents, watch movies, open different folders, multitask etc etc. Having a big display will help, indeed. But, does the image improve on clarity if the mini dvi cable is connected to a dvi port on the external monitor, instead of connected to a vga port? Or, is this negligible to detect?
I'm stuck here. My macbook's monitor is cracked -- I'm trying to make the external monitor the primary monitor, but I'm working blind.
Got the external monitor connected, can see the cursor there and can do some dragging, but can't toy with the zooming/scrolling in order to bring System Preferences into the external monitor.
It was so long ago, that I have no idea -- sorry man.
I think I just messed with the resolution till I got it working. Is you problem getting the right window onto the working monitor, so you can set the monitor up to "mirror"? If so, I just worked blind till I lucked out.
BTW -- I replaced my own LCD w/ a $60+ship screen from Ebay. Followed a YouTube "How to" install video... totally worked, took a lazy hour. Cost like $70 in the end, instead of $700 through Apple.
I'm using an external monitor with a macbook which has a broken screen, and none of the display setting proportions are really suited to the monitor. This causes a distorted image. 1024x768 works best but the image is uncomfortably large. Any ideas?
Is there a way I can connect two external monitors to a macbook, have the lid closed and have the two monitors work as extended displays to each other (different images on each)
why apple don't put back the power button to the external keyboard?
i just want to switch on my macbook pro with the lid closed. i don't want to open the lid press the power button to switch it on and close the lid back.
That video that you played... I noticed how it's differnetly sized as it switches between displays. How would you make it so it is the same size on bothe displays?
It changes sizes because his laptop is a little smaller than his external monitor. Also, both his laptop and monitor weren't perfectly aligned. If it was the same size and they were aligned perfectly, it would be the same size on both screens.
Yes, I know that. If it's not possible it's not, but i wondering if there was a way to make windows seem identical on different sized/resolution monitors
this is sweet. i just got my monitor so i just need to get the adapter. im studying graphic design, so i have many windows open at once hopefully this will help a lot :) thnx for the vid.
Hey, I have tried to put my MacBook into desktop mode (where the lid on the MacBook is closed so I can concentrate on 1 display) however when I do this my Airport stops working. It says that I am connected however when I launch Safari/Firefox the page won't load. Do you know a way of getting around this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
My Macbook kindof freaks out when I hook up an external display of any kind. It consistently changes my wallpaper to the default permanently, and even gets rid of half my widgets when the external display is gone. Any ideas?
Yes you can as long as you have the lid closed. I use the mac wireless keyboard & mouse & as so as you press a key on the keyboard or pick up the mouse the PC starts up (I leave my in sleep mode all the time) I'm using a Dell 24" monitor & it works fine.
i use the mirror option because i have the blutooth keyboard and mouse so i close my macbook, and hide the macbook in my drawer so its just a keyboard, mouse and monitor on my desk. people ask where my actual computer is and they are trying to look for it :)
Thank you, this is precisely the information I was looking for. Really appreciate your assistance. Also, you've done a really good job with the video and audio description, very articulate and easy to understand.
that's really cool, I didn't realize OS X was that detailed in remembering where you put things... definitely a tip to keep in mind when I get my MacBook later this year. thanks for the video!

Do you have to shut down the Macbook if you want to disconnect it from the monitor?
Marville22 3 years ago
Nope, just pull the plug out. The screen goes blank for a second as the video card readjusts, and it'll put the setting back to normal.

can you hook up 2 external monitors to a macbook?
FLCProductions 3 years ago
Only to a Mac Pro.

rly? macbook pro only has one DVI slot.
macbook can be used with as many monitors as you want (using a USB hub & USB adaptors to the VGA or DVI)

what happens when u click full screen on a video?
m2daitchell 3 years ago
if i drag the window the video is on into the external display and full screen it then it will full screen on that display.
So which screen is effected depends on where the video window is when you fullscreen it.
