@Bobbladeblade, these are medieval martial arts in this video, only extrapolated into other situations and uses. Seeing a gambeson on a student is like seeing a student of karate in a gi...not necessary, but somewhat appropriate.
And it shouldn't creep you out, it should reassure you! Just where do you think high school wrestling comes from? High school wrestling is the end of a branch of the tree that is the Western Martial Arts scene. Medieval and Renaissance martial arts are the trunk.
@Bobbladeblade ive been watching alot of collegiate wrestling vids good stuff. high school wrestling and sports fencing are the modern evolution of western martial arts though many of the self defence concpets are abondoned for the sake of fair sport.
@Bobbladeblade MMA is as techinical as any martial arts out there being that its fairly recent it hasnt be tainited by certain qualities that do find their way in to martial arts over time like the criticism MMA ppl give to traditional asian martials for example are only things that have occured recently like excessice form practice, and "demonstrating technique" is modern before, sparring conditioning and drills over shadowed it
@JKT6, in the middle ages, you're talking about nobility, knights and such, and then mercenaries who could afford lessons from the masters or passed down what they learned in the field, for the most part.
As we progress into the Renaissance (1400 and onwards), we see the expansion of schools where the arts were taken by the upper middle classes away from the control of the nobility.
That's what is documented best, at least. There are, of course, weapon arts using farm implements...
@Dragonfist12185, yes, I wouldn't be surprised. The human body bends and doesn't bend in the same way for everybody, and it is very, how can I say, reassuring, perhaps, to find that groups of humans the world over "invent" the same solutions to similar problems over and over again with no contact with other groups.
Glad you like it. The response depends. In multiple adversary work, going to ground might create more difficulties unless you are pretty slick. ; ) So, avoidance is the key. Same for difficult surfaces, like roads, sidewalks. Stay on your feet, and keep away from him or keep him away from you. General work would be to take yourself off-line and then attack with strikes and locks on his limbs.
Yes, but that is because Lotta is an Italian word which translates to fighting and also wrestling. So it's not really the name of a style, per se, but what it's called generally in Italian. ; )
Thanks. Yes, the techniques are simple but they are only there to show other agendas, such as context like the back-to-the-wall method of training, and so on. I'm glad you liked that part.
I agree completely with the comment you make in the info part. If you look close at all the "different" techniques that can be made, you see that they all come back to only a few with a lot of variations.
It does not matter if you are fighting armed or unarmed.
