well i teach kindergarten, our only form of disipline is to move their name clip to a different color and making them walk some laps around the play ground. that is our ONLY form of disipline. Hey Kev! As an educator, I think parents don't support the teacher like they used to. Fifty years ago, I don't think this would've been as big an issue. The young girl was never physically harmed. The teacher probably asked the girl repeatedly to stop playing in her hair, to no avail. The teacher taught her a lesson, and I BET this young girl will comply in the future. Ms Teacher should get the same thing she put out. I think a buzz cut is in order along with some whoop azz for putting her hand on that child's hair. Also be retrained on interacting with children on her own dime and time. Two weeks of subspension isn't enough. She's been having this on her mind to do what she did and worked up the nerve to carry it out. With that being said a month or two without paid. Along with the other requirements mention earlier.

I believe in second chances/forgiveness, and I believe in consequences. Chris Brown made a mistake and he was punished accordingly. In many ways, he's still being punished. Some radio stations are refusing to play his music, some parents are refusing to buy his music for their children, and some stores are refusing to put his album on the shelf. He needs to accept this. At the same time, I don't believe it's up to us to continuously punish him. There comes a time when we should all move on.
I agree with Kev. The teacher should be suspended and should be required to attend counceling classes. I understand where people are coming from saying "she's only in first grade," but ive seen kids in the same grade as the girl disrespecting teachers. Parents need to be honest with themselves and think about whether their child is guilty too. As a daughter and niece of teachers I don't think that the teacher should be fired. hair is a very touchy topic. as so many people have said in the past (and present), it's a womans crown and glory. to cut this childs hair, which is longer than the average little girls hair, is harsh and cruel. i know the little girl probably thought she had it goin' on with her braids and beads, & the constant swinging of the beads with all of that click clackin' was annoying, but you can't do that! to know the other kids laughed makes it even worse.

I think the teacher should be fired. I do believe in giving people second chances, but I don't think she deserves one. If you are working in an environment with kids, you should be able to handle any pressure they put on you. What happens if she get more frustrated then this time? Hey Kev! As an educator, I think parents don't support the teacher like they used to. Fifty years ago, I don't think this would've been as big an issue. The young girl was never physically harmed. The teacher probably asked the girl repeatedly to stop playing in her hair, to no avail. The teacher taught her a lesson, and I BET this young girl will comply in the future. Reguardless of her stress or frustration, a child is a child and they will do thing to drive you up a wall but at the end of the day she is unfit to be around children. I believe in second chances/forgiveness, and I believe in consequences. Chris Brown made a mistake and he was punished accordingly. In many ways, he's still being punished. Some radio stations are refusing to play his music, some parents are refusing to buy his music for their children, and some stores are refusing to put his album on the shelf. He needs to accept this. I understand where people are coming from saying "she's only in first grade," but ive seen kids in the same grade as the girl disrespecting teachers. Since I have a daughter and I know the time and effort it takes to grow your daughters hair and have it be healthy (wash, grease, braid, etc. etc.) If my daughter came home and her hair was cut....I probably would of went to jail that night!!! That teacher had no respect for the mom who took the time out to do the girls hair. If anything that teacher could of sent that child to the principals office and been done with it!! Or called her mother. but to cut her hair......HELL NAWLLL!!!!

Hey Kevin... I don't think a teacher should get frustrated 2 the point of picking up scissors however I also believe in 2nd chances. I'm thinking counseling to cope with work induced stress and close observation in the classroom. I applaud most teachers because Lord knows I don't have the patience. Also, What about child feeling? While the student hair was getting cutting the other student laughing at her. That is hurtful to a child. Now, that child is not going to be the someway ever. The student constitutional status was violated. If i was the mother I would sue for monetary damage aka (USC 1983 and 1985) for lack of training/policies.. Due to the fact, teacher do not get paid enough. The school is acting like everything is ok.....

I think that the teacher should be fired!!!! And while, she is fired!! And the mother should wait for the teacher outside the school and beat her like she steal something!!! My opinion is that the teacher know better. Also, the mother confronted the teacher in ask her why she did that!!!! The teacher was not apologetic. I know sometimes that teaching can be stressful, but the teacher has to cope stress in a positive way.

I don't think she should have cut her hair. I am a teacher and they should do a story about teacher stress!!!!!!!!! I know how it feels to want to put a belt to some of these kids!! I teach that age group and when a girl plays with their hair. I just will fix the little girls hair for them into a more workable style. The little girls love the attention and they all want the teacher to fix their hair .LOL!!!

i would have cut some of the teachers hair off if she cut my daughter hair. The little girl said the students laughed at her and i think that's a form of abuse. Teachers are trained to handle stress with and she crossed the line. If it was a white student the teacher would have been fired. That teacher should be away from small kids. I understand that kids can act up and really work your nerves but, imo, one of the main things that troubles me about the action this "teacher" took is the fact that it was incredibly calculated and vindictive. It is one thing to want to discipline a child so that they can learn a better was to behave but it is something more disturbing to do something you know will hurt that child's spirit and cut their heart. She should be fired and SLAPPED!

im on the fence These kids are bad and mommas are just itchin for the chance to reprimand (i.e. sue) a teacher or other official for disciplining them moms are good for standing up for their kids but sometimes a little 'rod' is in order I dont condone whacking hair off, but hey the lady was fed up! children NEED to respect adults. The teacher was DEAD wrong.. but i cant say i dont see where she is coming from. maybe this'll be a lesson to the parents: the teacher shouldnt have to RAISE ur kids.
