@acampos2 This is a very OLD technique. Just with my bro and I alone, we were doing this back in 1998 - and the technique was being done way before that as well. Thank you for the congrats.
i tried this pass on had some success. what about the other leg ( not the knee slide ) getting caught with your opponents leg or him trying to get half? am i not smashing enough with the knee posted up? great vid btw. just suscribed
@krnxjayxthug Yes, you need to smash more with your lead leg. Make sure your knee is protruding over his groin, the deeper your knee is protruding over his body, the better it will smash and pin the leg of the side you are passing. Give that a shot and let me know if it helps.
Alright, I was skeptical but I tried this and it worked on a much bigger purple belt a couple times (i'm a new blue belt). I'm kind of in shock. I've seen this pass before but no one had articulated the 'sliding' motion and the grips just right.
@runT1ME This is Marcos, I'm sure your training partner was more shocked :) Congrats, I'm glad I could help! There isn't a DVD set yet but you can get a lot more videos for free at MarcosAvellanDOTcom . Right now I'm trying to build up a following and introduce myself to a lot of folks that haven't seen me teach before. Expect a lot of videos to start being posted for free, the only catch is that you got to subscribe to my email list at MarcosAvellanDOTcom . Thanks for the comment!
@Poom22 Yes, breaking the guard is crucial, keep practicing your posture. In the meantime, definitely anticipate open guard situations. I got a drill on the front page of my website that will help, visit marcosavellanDOTcom, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I personally saw David Avellan hit an advanced variation of this pass at least once in every single match at a Grapplers Quest competition this year. He ended up taking first in the advanced division. Made it look real easy too.
how come you always passing to your left...

I like when the dude on the bottom is like "ahhh you are digging into my rib..." and the guy on top is all "dude, move your hand..."

We call it knee slicer and it is very effective against people who play open or butterfly guard. Sorry but nothing new. Congrats on your winnings.

I tried this but had trouble actually breaking the guard (ive only been training 1 year 6 months only in no gi)
changing the position of the body pre pass really did help though
