Ya know, when prospective contestants try out for WOF, they are given a test consisting of partially filled-in puzzles of varying difficulty which they must attempt to solve. They must get a certain percentage right to advance in the audition process. A puzzle this simple should have been a no-brainer for someone who made it all the way on the show and to the bonus round. PERIOD.

I couldn't help but notice that the letters that they chose were "N,T,S,R,L,E" which are basically the same letters that Wheel of Fortune started automatically using later on in future shows, "R,S,T,L,N,E", as future contestants chose three more consonants and a vowel. Is this where it all 1st started?

@tiestoboi The rules were changed in the late 80's to make it easier to solve the bonus round puzzle. Before

RSTLNE was added as bonus letters it was extremely difficult for anyone to solve the puzzles. Many times the puzzle was blank and it was impossible to solve.

Then again the show has been on since 1975 as daytime programing, so might have gone as far back as then. The show still wasnt s successful as it's syndicated counterpart and some of the games may have changed from daytime to syndication, so actually determining which episode had the contestants choose those letters the very first time is gonna be hard to pinpoint.
