This video makes me want to cry....everytime to we go before FWC commissioners they blow us off. We need more of a presence at these meetings. Commissioner Baretto said the commission could change the 2" Mesh Rule but won't. Commissioner Wright said they won't change the rule due to politics. They went on to say that the net issue was a dead issue and they don't want to hear it anymore! Let's show them we aren't going away!
This is fantastic, we can't believe how similar our back grounds are, my grandfather was a sea mullet beach fisherman and my wife's father tried to start a fishery for pilchards which his father fished for but $800,000.00+ later and my mother-law having 2 strokes the Govt canned his efforts forcing him and son also a 5th gen to leave the country to fish. Our families have had to move country and state in order to fish for existence, they are at this very time in Vic fishing leaving family here.
You are right on the money with that one, fishing is not a crime!! Real fisherman really do give a shit...It's the politics and the investors that are ruining our lives. Real fisherman take only what they need and investors rape and pillage our oceans for greed and financial gain...If you look around our port it is obvious who over fishers, living in there million dollar homes on the water front and driving there BMW's never ever stepping foot on the boat that paves there existence!!!
tell me about it, nationwide they need to implement owner-operator laws and do away with investor groups who are mainly made up of lawyers who own entire fleets of boats. greed, pure and simple and its too bad these groups of lawyers are the ones who wield all the power in washington w/ their lobbyists. when ever the gov't hammers the fishing industry the hammer always falls on us little guys, the ones who aren't doing the serious damage to the oceans.
a couple of years ago almost 200scientists wrote a letter to the gov't telling them they have to totally reverse their policy and steer away from large factory ships and revert back to favoring small in-shore fisheries. but between the corruption in DC and the easier policing of larger ships but smaller fleets I don't think it will ever happen.. politics as usual..
Owner operator laws would be great, all that will be left here in mooloolaba will be investors .1 investor here even sold some permits back to the gov't for 2mil which he brought more boats with.. a few small real fishermen put there permits in & where nocked back or offered stupidly small amounts (30-50,000) for the same permit fishing the same area, paying the same gov't fee's.....
No i did not Allen, but i do know FL's methods were adopted by NC fisherman ! Especially mullet fisherman. Prior to FL fisherman fishing here in the fall, spotlights were never used ! Lots of circlenetting techniques used here now originated in FL.
Lots of great history in regards to fishing assembled in Florida. If not for monkey see, monkey do, NC fisherman would probably still be in the dark circlenetting fish ! This is where it began !! Hope the assholes in FL realize their mistakes and ignorance and allow you guys to fish again. Though mullets would be cheap here, it would make me happy to see you guys back in action !!! Much respect to all native FL fisherman !!!!
Hey Allen, was just checking my subscriptions and cane upon this vid. Excellent job. You've got some nice pictures there. I don't know what it is but I love going down to the docks and watching the guys mending the nets. I think it's awesome to see. Metallica- I was me but now me is gone. Can't let that happen because every fisherman will have loneliest felling him to the point of agony. Great job. Thanks. Glad you liked the vid I sent to you yesterday. That Steve Oullette is awesome.
Very interesting , my grandaddy was a founding member of the OFF(Organized Fisherman of Florida), he also had a Fish House in Chokoloskee, Fl.
