Atlanta in general is passive, wait-and-see and mediocre when it comes to following big-league sports. That's why I don't root for their teams myself. Folks there need to be proud and appreciative!
Losing the Civil War may have done it. That's what led to Southerners being so insecure about following someone who doesn't win.
If the Trashers move, indifference will be the reason, and hockey fans will be left wondering why Atlanta failed a second time with an NHL franchise.
@Mcnzlea i think that would be more of an atlanta thing being mediocre following big league sports. not the south as a whole fans of SEC schools are know for being very loyal
Regardless of who shows up or supports southern teams, their fans are just not the same purists as fans from Montreal, Toronto, or Minnesota. In southern cities, gimmicks such as the shootout, PA announcers hyping up the "POWER PLAY!", intermission acitivites, and other Gary Bettman rule changes are needed to keep the fans' attention. In Montreal or Toronto, fans know what a power play is, no mascots are neccessary, and a game that ends in a tie is fine with them.
Yeah LA and Dallas like litterally every sport same with boston, new york, and philly, places like wisconsin and other places need to get more sport-friendly, cuz they have teams just and example here... wisconsin, again, packers have fans, on the other side stands the brewers and the bucks, see where im gettin to?
@Pika740 Anaheim is Dedicated to Hockey even if we win or lose we still sell out our games, your just a bandwagoner yourself ive been a fan of the ducks since i was a kid and Atlanta is a 2nd favorate when the franchise developed in 1999. i will be dedicated even win or lose GO THRASHERS AND DUCKS.
Besides Los Angeles is a bandwagon city who only cares about the Lakers when i saw the ducks play at Staples half of the seats wern't even filled to the max especialy a arena thats huge from inside
Calling me a bandwagoner is contradictory because I'm an Isles fan. LA has had more attendance while they where losing than the Ducks do now. It's 17,000 attendance vs 16,000.
Thrashers have no one at their games, you could hear a mouse fart if you tried enough.
Los Angeles and Dallas actually have fans. It was stupid to add more California teams and adding Houston should be out of the question.
Anaheim, Nashville, Atlanta, Phoenix and either Tampa or Florida should move because they're aren't attracting enough fans, most of them are bandwagon fans any way. (HAI ANAHEIM AND TAMPA LOL)
im suprised that cities like Pheonix Los Angeles San Jose Dallas Tampa Sunrise Atlanta (im a fan) Nashville and Anaheim all have hockey teams cause it barely snows and its pretty warm most of the times i mean why cant Alaska or Maine have a hockey team?
Why? We aren't talking about pond hockey, we're talking NHL. If the NHL only had teams from cold-weather climates, we'd have one boring freaking league where Wyoming would have two teams.
It does raise and intresting point why warmer towns have hockey teams while colder ones don't, however you have to think along the lines of how much money they make. In Alaska its very unlikey that they would have too many fans coming to the games, whereas the cities you listed make a good ammount of money from ticket sales per game otherwise they wouldnt be there.
Sounds like someone who's never been to Atlanta...or somebody that thinks that elite hockey is still played in Canada. Lets see how many people are standing to get beer at Philips once the Thrashers have had as much time to develop their franchise as Vancouver has. We were an expansion team and are doing alright for one. I recommend visiting Philips on a Friday or Saturday night and you'd be surprised by the amount of people that show.
I don't know about Vancouver, but Atlanta is the definition of a commuter city. Compared to a city like New York, very few people actually live within the city limits.
5 million people live in the Atlanta metro area, which is a massive amount of land.
Also keep in mind that Atlanta has a team in almost every other major league sport (except soccer). Vancouver has proven they cant support an NBA team. If the Thrashers were the only pro team Atlanta had, they'd sell out a lot more frequently
@CHOCOBOizm I said major league...the Silverbacks were a semi-pro womens team. We don't have a Major League Soccer team. Closest thing near Atlanta is the Atlanta Beat womens professional soccer team, and they just started
@jcjr87 Ah okay. I wasn't sure cause well I just don't care for Soccer/Football, whichever people want to call it. But I am a Thrashers fan too, and there are a pretty good amount of people that go to the games.
For the record, I'm not denying Vancouver is a better hockey city than Atlanta. I'd have to be stupid to assume that. It is, however, a town whose hockey fanbase continues to expand, especially since the Thrashers have consistently gotten better since their inaugural season. Give them some time to develop a winning franchise, and the people will inevitably show.
At least we draw in more people a night than Phoenix, and they've been around a lot longer.
lol i remember the 06 or 07 all star game was in Atlanta and CBC did a pre game interview thing with the people in Atlanta and they asked the people what was happening this weekend and 0 out of 10 knew there was an all star game going on. most of them thought it was some kind of corn festival.
correction they do have another song... but they alternate like every other goal this is one of the songs they use.... they just dont score enough for you to hear it

Read my fucking comment. Anaheim and Tampa bandwagoners.
Back when those two won their respective cup titles, their fan base was pretty much only bandwagoners.

They use this song (Blur's Song2) for the first goal. Second goal is always Kernkraft 400. Subsequent goals are usually Song2 as well.
