  • This show was a bit before my time, but it seems pretty cool. It's quite surreal and 'New Age-y', quite unlike the Jolly Hockeysticks, very 'proper' Blue Peter.

    Jass.

  • Can't believe I just clicked on this and remembered and sang every word to the intro and the Fingermouse song!....man..this is taking me back to a wonderful time!

  • Fingermouse can't get it up and no-one will help him unload. 70s kid's TV: innuendo-a-rama

  • Does anyone else ever remember not knowing what the shrimp was when they were little? :o

  • Try explaining this to a 2000 child my son couldn't stop laughing.

Well we haven't done much good, so maybe they will..

  • Remember seeing a vid where Rick Jones aka "Yoffy" actually refered to the puppets as Vagina's

  • I take it the rumour he was a nonce was just a nasty urban myth? Although "fingerbobs"... would have been a little bit hilarious if true, at least were it not for some kids actually getting fingerbobbed.

  • this reminds me of my childhood...things so diffrent then

  • He used to be in the group 'Meal Ticket'.

  • what...?

  • am 43yo, always found fingermouse/bobs crap and freaky .. jmho

  • At last! I have been asking people if they remember fingerbobs and they all thought i was mad....they said you must mean Fingermouse....which of course it is....except the title is fingerbobs...nice...i've just proved i wasn't mad after all ;)

  • Finger mouse now works at the till in Pound Land. He put on some weight.

  • I remember making a finger mouse as a kid. I could only just remember this.show. Thanks for uploading this.

  • crazy

  • This must have cost peanuts to make.

  • 3:10 Fingermouse can't get it up lol

  • Eee such lovely music.

  • Only thirteen episodes were ever made by the BBC in 1972. At the end of the series the presenter Rick Jones was so sick of making the show that he destroyed the finger puppets while the camera was still rolling.

  • everything in this show induced nightmares

  • @al3699 Only the Scampi did that to me....but I know what you mean

  • Love this, if only time could stand still.......

  • i used to always think i was remembering the prog fingermouse which was apparantly later, but now seeing this and hearing the "fingermouse" song its actually this i remember! plus i remember the grey glove and the other animals. wow, brings back so many memories from being a wee tot :) thank you!!

  • always found the scampi deeply disturbing. always watched though

  • Amazing. I'd forgotten all about this, but I remember it all now, characters, songs & all. Like it was yesterday.

  • incredibly creepy in a strange way.. as was much kids tv in the 70s

  • that's strange...i always remembered yothy with a bong for some reason!

  • Any chance of some more episodes anyone? My 3 year old daughter is hooked on this (Up yours Iggle Piggle!) but there's only so many times I can watch the same episode in a row (8 is my limit!)

  • id prefer if this was called fingerbros

  • COOL

  • LOOK! IM IN THE VIDEO ;D

  • The makers of kids programs today don't take the same drugs as the makers of these early 70's (?) programs!

  • Just amazing - that brought back so many memories of growing up in the late 60's early 70's. Thanks for posting and my next stops will be Flashing Blade and the Freewheelers (amongst many others).

Thanks so much for posting this.

    TDyl

  • They didn't get on away from the set, Fingermouse was a right miserable bastard apparently

  • Yoffy is the man. Quintessence albums not pictured.

  • I am sure this guy used to take a spliff between takes - man he was soooo chilled.

    Excellent show non the less.

  • thank you for making this possible to view x

  • Yoffi-man has farted, and he's burn't his hair. A nauseating odour. Permeates the air. Yoffi rips another, and the skiddies streak about. Then he drops another, and a turtle's head peeks out.... Loved this show as a kid. They don't make them like this anymore...

  • Did you know that (General) Yoffi was responsible for the massace of over 900 Bosnian Muslims during the 1992/1995 confict in the Balkans? After filming this, he went home and took a more political stance. That seagul is still on the U.N.'s most Wanted list!

  • fingerbib

  • Look at Yoffis shirt. I think its a statement. Pretty deep and you will have to have an IQ greater then a ...finger puppet to catch on. Can anyone get what I am saying? Maybe I'm just scatty brained!

  • Loved this as a child. Wish it was around still for my children.

  • I remember being a little frightened of Yoffi's beard when I was watching this as a 3 year old, and the slightly spooky theme tune. But it was a wonderful show once I got used to it!

  • This is kinda creepy. Yet I watch and can't turn away.

  • Yoffi needs the toilet oh his arse is bare

    Yoffis really bursting

    a turtlehead is out.

  • This must be where Aphex Twin got the name for 'Fingerbib'. (really nice song)

  • There's a book called Legends of Kids TV which features an interview with "Yoffy" about his time with Fingermouse, and what he went on to do..

  • The presenter was my primary school teacher's son. She was ever so proud of him and was always telling us about him.

  • Always great to see Enoch the woodpecker in full effect.

  • this Makes kids TV today look manic.

  • Makers of kids programs today should watch all the old stuff again, they have no imagination today.

  • Hey, paulharris1967. Thank you for posting this video. This was my favorite show as a kid and it's great to see it. How did you come to have the film in your possession? The quality is fantastic.

    Many thanks!

  • This over the top awesome lololol

  • Those were the days when children didn't need to be bombarded with technology to making learning entertaining

  • the BBC must have had a rather restrictive budget for childrens tv....

I want someone to upload footage of the 80s/early 90s fingermouse that used to be on BBC2 - this one is a bit before my time!

  • My lord how this makes me happy and sad. Happier times, more gentle and less technology but more happiness.

  • @joolspirog

People sure were friendlier back then!

  • @joolspirog Thats right, with less money you have to rely on more skill. The same goes with music.

  • A personal favourite of mine as a child

  • Yoffy looks blazed as hell.

  • Great puppeteering and interplay between the characters. Even now I love all the interesting instruments and their pretty sounds. It must be something good coming through in the musicians.

It's clever how they made contact with a human at the beach look like the human wasn't really in their realm. They could interact in their own world-and you, the viewer, was privivaged too.

  • that was so short, but sweet, those were some messed up looking stones lol

  • I think they're rather good. Amazing how a stone can look like something else with a bit of pen.

  • my grandad

    what a legend

  • Daddy daddy my daddy I'll be right round! lol

  • Yoffy(Rick Jones) is a good friend of my mom and he's at my house right now. lol

  • I wish Yoffy was my daddy he seems so nice calm and loving !

  • Yes he was a father figure wasn't he. This is what a dad should be like. I used to love the way Fingermouse used to bring back everything to Yoffy at the end-like he was privilaged among the humans in being able to talk to the mouse.

  • yea man yoffi rocks he's so cool lol Brings back so many happy childhood memories aah back in the day !

  • I haven't seen this for about thirty years.

    Thank you... :-)

  • Ahh, thanks for posting this, grew up watching this. Gentler days when kids were kids and didn't feel the need to beat people up or stab each other

  • I beg to differ. I was around at the time and I stabbed a whole bunch of people. And now that they allow internet in my prison I can relive all of those wonderful, violent memories!

  • The C.G.I Is So Life Like!

  • Yuffy looks like Cat Stevens.

  • its the Chairman of the fed ben bernanke

  • I think most look back to the innocence of childhood, no worries, no big problems, no bills, no politics, ect. Long summers, eat what you are given, the security of family life, BBC Children Television, we are the good guys in the world. What about now! George Bush, keeping up with the Jones, realising that we are the bad guys, phoney politics. And we all play are part as the three wise monkeys, see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, as we pay our taxes to murder children in other countries.

  • Ah, that famous body swerve.

  • You wouldn't hear "guts and verve" in a kids tv song these days. Rentaghost and Barnaby Bear were a couple of others with bizarrely complex theme tune lyrics for the target audience. Or perhaps kids were just brighter in those days!

  • I think maybe they were. If you analyse the songs, they really are quite complicated.

  • Brilliant - it's true that the words of the song just come flooding back!

  • Gutted! They did have the song with the scampi! Scampi had a sort of Jazz Cat vibe about him! His tune still haunts me to this day....

  • My name is Scampi.....Scampi that's me...I live at the bottom of the se-aaa. Scampi rocked. He WAS a jazz cat - Sirius you are bang on with that assessment of his royal under the seaness.

  • I haven't seen this since the 70s but as the opening music started, from somewhere in the back of my brain, I remembered every word to the theme tune!! I used to love this as a kid. I would always pester my mum to help me make my own version of fingermouse. I loved all the puppets in this show with the exception of the scampi children - too annoying. I think the tortoise was called Flash.

  • I heard that Yoffi was so sick of making the show by the end that he destroyed all the puppets.

  • There would have been tens of each of the characters.

  • rly? =(, also his name in real life isnt actually yoffi

  • I know that. His name is Rick Jones- before Fingerbobs he presented Playschool.

  • Like being educated by Alistair Crowley! Hehe

  • I heard Yoffi got rheumatism in his index finger and had to quit.

  • hahaha

  • The background music at about 3.27 sounds just the same as the intro to glass concrete and stone by David Byrne.

  • I love this program as a child, it brings back a lot of lovely memories seeing it now.

  • yoffi bends another and a tortoise head peeps out. I know the bloody feeling!

Now, I heard some disturbing rumours about this bloke getting into trouble for fingeringbobs, if you take my meaning. I don't believe it of course - just look at his honest face.

  • oh my god i thought my mum was soft in the head she`s trying to make fingerbobs now wrong wrong wrong

  • This, along with Chorlton & the Wheelies & Animal Kwackers, was my favourite TV programme growing up....thank you for sharing it!

  • Hahaha, you think they were working on a budget with this? I loved this show. Must have cost about a tenner to make, but it still beats anything on kids TV today.

  • i used to love this, just watched with my 2 year old, he seemed bored

  • I grew up watching this and i remember thinking how scary this dude was ,,and still is ,,lol,,i dont know if it was the jumper, beard or just him as a person,,or all three,, cheers for jogging the old memory..anyone know what Rick Jones is doing now

  • So cute!!!! I loved this movie!!!! Congratulations!!!!

  • innocent!

  • How inoocent it all was back then!
