This show was a bit before my time, but it seems pretty cool. It's quite surreal and 'New Age-y', quite unlike the Jolly Hockeysticks, very 'proper' Blue Peter.
I can't believe I just clicked on this and remembered and sang the whole intro then the Fingermouse song...I loved this show...you're taking me back to a woderful time!
Can't believe I just clicked on this and remembered and sang every word to the intro and the Fingermouse song!....man..this is taking me back to a wonderful time!
Can't believe I just clicked on this and remembered and sang every word to the intro and the Fingermouse song!....man..this is taking me back to a wonderful time!
I take it the rumour he was a nonce was just a nasty urban myth? Although "fingerbobs"... would have been a little bit hilarious if true, at least were it not for some kids actually getting fingerbobbed.
At last! I have been asking people if they remember fingerbobs and they all thought i was mad....they said you must mean Fingermouse....which of course it is....except the title is fingerbobs...nice...i've just proved i wasn't mad after all ;)
Only thirteen episodes were ever made by the BBC in 1972. At the end of the series the presenter Rick Jones was so sick of making the show that he destroyed the finger puppets while the camera was still rolling.
i used to always think i was remembering the prog fingermouse which was apparantly later, but now seeing this and hearing the "fingermouse" song its actually this i remember! plus i remember the grey glove and the other animals. wow, brings back so many memories from being a wee tot :) thank you!!
Any chance of some more episodes anyone? My 3 year old daughter is hooked on this (Up yours Iggle Piggle!) but there's only so many times I can watch the same episode in a row (8 is my limit!)
Just amazing - that brought back so many memories of growing up in the late 60's early 70's. Thanks for posting and my next stops will be Flashing Blade and the Freewheelers (amongst many others).
Yoffi-man has farted, and he's burn't his hair. A nauseating odour. Permeates the air. Yoffi rips another, and the skiddies streak about. Then he drops another, and a turtle's head peeks out.... Loved this show as a kid. They don't make them like this anymore...
Did you know that (General) Yoffi was responsible for the massace of over 900 Bosnian Muslims during the 1992/1995 confict in the Balkans? After filming this, he went home and took a more political stance. That seagul is still on the U.N.'s most Wanted list!
Look at Yoffis shirt. I think its a statement. Pretty deep and you will have to have an IQ greater then a ...finger puppet to catch on. Can anyone get what I am saying? Maybe I'm just scatty brained!
I remember being a little frightened of Yoffi's beard when I was watching this as a 3 year old, and the slightly spooky theme tune. But it was a wonderful show once I got used to it!
Hey, paulharris1967. Thank you for posting this video. This was my favorite show as a kid and it's great to see it. How did you come to have the film in your possession? The quality is fantastic.
Great puppeteering and interplay between the characters. Even now I love all the interesting instruments and their pretty sounds. It must be something good coming through in the musicians.
It's clever how they made contact with a human at the beach look like the human wasn't really in their realm. They could interact in their own world-and you, the viewer, was privivaged too.
Yes he was a father figure wasn't he. This is what a dad should be like. I used to love the way Fingermouse used to bring back everything to Yoffy at the end-like he was privilaged among the humans in being able to talk to the mouse.
I beg to differ. I was around at the time and I stabbed a whole bunch of people. And now that they allow internet in my prison I can relive all of those wonderful, violent memories!
I think most look back to the innocence of childhood, no worries, no big problems, no bills, no politics, ect. Long summers, eat what you are given, the security of family life, BBC Children Television, we are the good guys in the world. What about now! George Bush, keeping up with the Jones, realising that we are the bad guys, phoney politics. And we all play are part as the three wise monkeys, see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, as we pay our taxes to murder children in other countries.
You wouldn't hear "guts and verve" in a kids tv song these days. Rentaghost and Barnaby Bear were a couple of others with bizarrely complex theme tune lyrics for the target audience. Or perhaps kids were just brighter in those days!
My name is Scampi.....Scampi that's me...I live at the bottom of the se-aaa. Scampi rocked. He WAS a jazz cat - Sirius you are bang on with that assessment of his royal under the seaness.
I haven't seen this since the 70s but as the opening music started, from somewhere in the back of my brain, I remembered every word to the theme tune!! I used to love this as a kid. I would always pester my mum to help me make my own version of fingermouse. I loved all the puppets in this show with the exception of the scampi children - too annoying. I think the tortoise was called Flash.
yoffi bends another and a tortoise head peeps out. I know the bloody feeling!
Now, I heard some disturbing rumours about this bloke getting into trouble for fingeringbobs, if you take my meaning. I don't believe it of course - just look at his honest face.
Hahaha, you think they were working on a budget with this? I loved this show. Must have cost about a tenner to make, but it still beats anything on kids TV today.
I grew up watching this and i remember thinking how scary this dude was ,,and still is ,,lol,,i dont know if it was the jumper, beard or just him as a person,,or all three,, cheers for jogging the old memory..anyone know what Rick Jones is doing now
