Could have routed the fleet up via Sri Lanka and up the coast of India where pirates are at their extreme limit and the immediate area covered by land based aircraft. Vo60 at 20 knots plus or not, these small skills have a pretty good turn of speed and of course a rpg goes way faster! Good precautions but expensive. Sailing up the Indian coast would have opened the event up to a bigger media catchment also. I tok a TP52 the other way just over a year ago and it was eventless!

Must be an important sponsor in Abu Dhabi. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense at all to sail there.

They have to be safe, Imagine something happened and the races was stopped altogether because no one would sponsor it then. I mean the pirates are willing to claim massive oil tankers on bambo, don't think they would be bothered about trying to do something.
